What it actually means to love yourself
When people used to say you should love yourself, I didn't quite know what they meant. How was I supposed to love myself? I didn't fit in, I was always the outcast either because of my skin or because I was loud and boisterous. It's only recently since moving away that I've learnt how to really take care of myself. It's weird. Part of me feels like I let go of myself, but actually, after being burnt out for so long, I needed a reset. To slow down. To reconnect with my inner child crying out in desperate need of comfort.
I've learnt what I actually need to do for self care. Not the bubble bath or face masks (although they are fab), but using what 13 years of therapy have taught me and what my therapist said to me time and time again. To slow down. There is still a lot I want to do, but I will get there one baby step at a time rather than leaps and bounds.
