Blog intro and AU Masterpost

this is a dedicated transformers sideblog (my main blog being @via-cognita) because I've been absorbed into the fandom during the end of October 2024 courtesy of TFOne's release and I don't see myself getting out anytime soon my fandom fixations usually last like 2 weeks before cycling out for another how is this happening

this blog will consist of both of me rambling about several AUs I had since falling into this rabbit hole as well reblogs memes and miscellaneous thoughts. There may be fanart incoming but I'm not used to drawing mecha soooooo i'm not sure. Maybe expect some humanformers art idk.

My main special interests within TF are Shattered Glass (morality swap scenarios are so fun I eat that shit up) and Combiners (with very specific fixations on the Stunticons and Aerialbots) but it may change/expand in the future

Expect the list of AUs to expand overtime because I have way too many ideas circling around my brain.

Current AUs include

Transformers Entropy: fan continuity inspired by a variety of canon and fan content, roughly divided into 4 seasons, with season 1 being pre-war, season 2-3 taking place during the war and a tentative season 4 for post-war content.

Recalibrated Morals: Earthspark x FunPub shattered glass, in which some former Autobots, now known as the Knights of Unicron, navigate relationships with Autobots and Decepticons alike after regaining their sense of morality on Earth following the destruction of Cybertron.

TF SG: Tinted Lenses AU (or just the tinted lenses au): SG AU. Once two allied revolutionary factions, a fallout between the Autobot and Decepticon leaders result in a civil war following the fall of the corrupt senate. The AU follows a few separate but interconnected story arcs following the various conflicts between the Cybertron Imperium and the Ascenticons.

Fragmentation AU: slightly G1 cartoon inspired but eventually descends into whatever I feel like fits. Combiners start off as one consciousness, but their components also gain their own sentience overtime. chaos ensues.

SG Fragmentation AU: same core concept but with SG characterizations.

Children of the Unmaker AU (Unicronian Technobots AU): The Technobots are created to aid Unicron to bring about the end of Cybertron and then the rest of the known universe, acting as a third party crashing the autobot-decepticon war. at first, anyways.

The Scattered Glass collection: A series of mostly unrelated one-shots (unless specified otherwise) in which I only shatter some of the characters. Essentially a baseline x sg crossover, but everyone is in the same world.

Exile beyond space and time (or just the Exile AU): semi IDW-based, after being blasted with the integrated time drive, instead of directly going back in time, Shockwave aka the Exile becomes a timeline and continuity-hopping ghost like G1 Starscream. He shows up in my other AUs for funsies.

I have no idea how long this fixation will last so this blog may spontaneously become less active, but I'm looking forward to having fun while it lasts and eventually comes back :D

so i spontaneously remembered that my mandala colouring books exist and decided to do some pages based on the colours of the combiners (the decepticon big three for now, might do more stuff in the future... might not even be limited to established teams, just based off character colour schemes in general)

The flip side of that "combination as body horror" post is, I genuinely don't think combination would be a negative experience for everyone. I talk a lot about how/why different combiners struggle with it, but... Look at Raiden. If Raiden's comparatively friendly demeanor is anything to go by, the Trainbots don't seem to be bothering him. I guess it's possible he struggles internally and doesn't let on, but I think the more honest reading of him is that combination doesn't upset the Trainbots.

And why would it? The individual Trainbots don't have many serious disagreements, and their core values align with Raiden's. Outside of work, the Trainbots are friends, a couple of them being brothers on good terms. They take time out of their schedules to help Daniel by gifts for his family. They aren't like the Stunticons, who hate each other combined or not, or the Aerialbots, whose combined form is tired of sharing a mind with them. The Trainbots enjoy each others' company. It makes sense that would carry over to what being Raiden is like.

I think people are quick to paint combination as scary, or miserable, but that's not true for every character. A lot of the scary aspects of combination can be soothed with practice and trust. Opening up your mind to other gestalt members probably is scary when it's new to you, but that closeness might become familiar, even soothing, as you get to know your team better & what it should feel like. Even losing control, a reasonable thing to fear, might be relaxing if you trust your combiner enough.

What some bots call "terrifying" others might call "thrilling." While losing yourself is scary to some mechs, others might pride themselves in being a part of something greater than themselves. And maybe some characters feel trapped in their gestalt, but others might take pride in having an important job only they can do.

I dunno. I don't think being a combiner, or being in a combiner team, is a one-size-fits-all situation. And that diversity is one of my favorite things about combiners as like, a worldbuilding tool. People and technologies in real life don't have one solution, or one experience. They come from different cultures and backgrounds. They have different biases and they solve different problems and they interpret those problems differently to begin with. The more diversity you can give your combiners in your writing, the more life you breathe into your world. It makes them feel real!

#THIS.#this is why combiners are so appealing to me personally #the diversity of characterization and character dynamics is genuinely insane there's so much you can do with them #and when doing stuff like fanfiction how the teams feels and functions really depends on what you want to do with the characters #it can be as healthy or unhealthy as what fits your intended theme/overall narrative #(i personally make a lot of different AUs just to explore different versions and angles of the concept)#i'd like to think that it's difficult to study gestalts in universe because there's only so many of them and each group is so different #even between different gestalts they can only understand each other's experiences to a certain extent it's that personalized #idk if personalized is the right word to use here but i digress #combiners are cool that's what im saying

lmao swindle's name is the same in essence. 诈骗 is like. the literal name of the crime, so i suppose 'scam' or 'fraud' would be a closer fit. either way it's a fitting and hilarious name for him im not gonna argue against it.

as for drag strip's italian name, i cant for the love of primus remember where exactly i saw this on the wiki (or anywhere else for that matter), but the stunticons' names in italian are references to animals that have military vehicles named after them.
