I can't get over how the Cromer's powers are elaborated in the diaries.
I cannot imagine how confusing it was to witness the Diary Film and Inception releasing, reading "Cromer" and seeing that dubious hourglass just to be left with no further explanation for months.
I mean, we learned about the Cromer's powers in FEVER ROAD; a variety show(!) released in between the first and the second FEVER album:
translation: "This changes its function according to the changes of the moon. When the crescent moon rises, it can deliver messages through dreams and when the full moon rises, it can move dimensions."
The diaries never had a passage like this one...
Another victim of a missing introduction were the Cromer's teleportation powers. Technically we knew of them due to Halateezā's ability to escape the government:
These powers are later used by Feverteezā in the THE WORLD EP.1 : MOVEMENT diaries:
I don't know how teleportation is connected to the moon at all but maybe that power's just "mechanical", who knows.
Funnily enough, I can 100% accept the teleportation powers being a bit wishy-washy, but the lack of introductions is a great marketing strategy frustrating.
š The moon cycles in World A and Z
There's something that always irked me about the Cromer handoff in the first FEVER diaries.
ZERO: FEVER Part.1 diary entry "Z OUTRO Into the New World"
ZERO: FEVER Part.2 diary entry "A INTRO"
After Feverteez part ways due to several issues of theirs, HJā falls asleep in the warehouse. He dreams of a man with a black fedora; his own Halateez counterpart.
Considering Hala-HJā reaches out to HJ in a dream, it should be crescent.
While Hala-HJ introduces dimensional travel to HJ's perplexed dreaming self, the Cromer somehow appears in front of real HJ in World A (how?).
After he awakes, HJ flips the Cromer causing its sand to move upwards (is that how the dimension traveling usually looks?), Feverteez reunite and immediately travel dimensions, which requires a full moon.
How is it possible that two Cromer powers are used in a short period of time when they require both a full moon and a crescent in order to function?
As far as I gathered (from the diaries and the Diary Film) the handoff, the reunion and flipping the Cromer happen one after another.
They even have to.
We know there are a few conflicts ripping the members apart; S's move, MG's hopelessness and most importantly YS's dad strictly prohibiting the factory hideout (it technically already had a no entry sign before).
Even if it's just all of the members realizing they need to reunite, which motivates them to finally assemble at the hideout, they can't wait there for as long as it takes for a crescent to turn into a full moon. I mean, S is supposed to live somewhere else!
visualization of a crescent moon's duration
a (waxing) crescent moon's actual duration
As you can see, both waning and waxing crescent last a few days. For either one the moon is illuminated less than a quarter for approximately one week. Consequently we have two weeks worth of cresent moons during a lunar month (29.5 days).
That means communication through dreams should work ā50% of the time in ATEEZ's lore.
Much more often we witness the Cromer's dimension travel powers. Since the moon is (visibly) full for ā3 days a month, it's not completely illogical how the diaries handle this.
But it's obviously impossible that a crescent and a full moon happen in the span of a few hours, which the very first action in their storyline suggests.
There seems to be a lack of logic.
The only thing that could excuse the moon phase problem is if World A and Z don't follow the same moon cycle (it's funny how Feverteez never check lunar phases then).
We already know that time can work differently for both worlds; when the World Z Cromer breaks, Feverteez (minus YS) not only dimension travel but also time travel to their past in World A. Furthermore, World Z's science is really advanced/futuristic in comparison to World A.
That's why I think their moon cycles could be different as well.
I imagine Hala-HJ contacting HJ during a World Z crescent (there are many crescent days during a moon cycle) but in World A it's actually full moon. (You know how interesting it is then, that Hala-HJ just happens to set the gears perfectly for Feverteez to travel dimensions and become the new revolutionaries? It seems like a whole lot of planning and we should talk about how insane it is that Hala-HJ offers Feverteez an escape from their problems in World A by making them carry the responsibility for an entire World's revolution...)
š¦ The Cromerās link to the moon beyond our knowledge
THE WORLD EP.FIN : WILL and GOLDEN HOUR : Part.1 are connected by a phenomenon called blood moon.
Crazy Form MV
GOLDEN HOUR : Part.1 diariesā kick-off
"Blood moon" is just another name for a total lunar eclipse. It's basically the earth's shadow on the moon.
A solar eclipse is similar; the moon blocks the sun(light) and we see nothing for a few seconds even though the sun's still shining.
The only difference between both eclipses is that the moon never shines at all; sunlight merely illuminates half of the moon's globe. As a result the earthās moon actually loses "its" light during a lunar eclipse.
(Admittedly, instead of seeing no moon at all, we see a red moon.)
Reality aside, in ATEEZ lore we never faced a red moon before Crazy Form. It's surprising, but there are not that many MVs featuring the (actual) moon in general:
Say My Name MV notes in the masterdoc
ILLUSION MV
Treasure MV
If we ignore Say My Name's spot of circular light when there's a lyric about the moon and ILLUSION's clipart moon, we end up with two MVs that feature the real moon: Treasure and Crazy Form.
Crazy Form goes full out by showing a waxing crescent, a full moon (2:51, 2:58, 3:04, 3:06,...) and a blood moon.
However, we only know two of those moon phasesā effects on the Cromer and the last thing we see of the hourglass is that it mysteriously broke once again.
In Deja Vu and the respective diaries a Cromer (the one HJ once received from Hala-HJ) broke on impact for the first time.
Feverteez then went to steal the (past version of) World A Cromer to save YS. Thatās the Cromer they used until the last point it was mentioned in the THE WORLD diaries. It doesnāt break there, which is why it raises many questions when it suddenly does in the Crazy Form MV.
I know that the moon doesn't disappear the way the sun does during a solar eclipse, but let's ignore that for the sake of this explanation. The normal moon's gone during a lunar eclipse which might impact the Cromer...
Iād like to compare this to the way Avatar The Last Airbender connects the moon/sun to bending the water/fire element; an eclipse always leads to either the water- or firebenders losing their bending powers for a few seconds.
Since the Cromer also mimics the moon's movement in a similar fashion, it's no surprise that we see a broken Cromer under a red moon at the end of the Crazy Form MV. No/Red moon (light) probably affects the vehicle.
(Some part of it (a red prism?) still seems to be valuable enough for the bluebird to pick up and carry to the Black Piratesā place. But thatās a theory for another day.)
Light is important for ATEEZ. I'm not going into detail here, but just look at the name of their world tour: "TOWARDS THE LIGHT [...]".
That's why I think that the moon "losing" its light, after Feverteez celebrate their win over Z* and possibly travel back to A during the full moon in Crazy Form, not only signifies the end of an era but also concludes their activities in other dimensions.
* as it's commonly speculated
ā Halateez = World Z versions of ATEEZ
ā Feverteez = "normal" ATEEZ from World A who were introduced to us during Inception era
ā HJ = Feverteez members are referenced like this
