Joshua’s dog, post-bath, helping to dry himself Funny li’l weirdo!
Joshua participated in the Taekwondo Martial Arts Games today & truly invested himself--crisp, sharp moves, with high kicks and strong kiyags! It's no wonder he got 5/5 as Gold!
On the way home, our warrior champion was tired -- took a wee nap on the long bus ride home. . .
Joshua showing off his new black belt. He's just leaping into Sparring Stance and Mom's camera caught him as if he were levitating.
Such hard work to earn the black belt and new uniform -- Earning all the other belts, then, for stamina, he had to run to the undisclosed location (no spectators) then do 100 push-ups, 100 jumping jacks, 100 burpees(!!), and 100 of each kick and punch he's learned. Then ran back to the dojo to demonstrate his knowledge of the patterns, give a speech he had written on what black belt means to him, and to break some boards (doubled up double thick wooden boards!); he brought home quite the stack of broken boards as trophies!
So nice to see his hard work and dedication pay off!
Sunday was the Sirota’s Alchymy’s martial arts tournament including students from both Vancouver and Richmond.
In Joshua's very first event, Patterns, he got the Bronze medal.
His second event was Taekwando Basics, and Joshua took Silver, after a head-to-head tiebreaker versus a skilled opponent, for the Gold!
his third, Self Defense, which he's very good at, event. . . GOOOOLLLLDDDD!!!!!
16th birthday yesterday, compared to his actual birth day. What a difference sixteenm years makes!
Right in the middle of a jumping front kick -- floating.
Forward breakfall, as part of his demonstrating his knowledge of defensive breakfalls and rolls.
Demonstrating his favourite kick. His kihap is exceptional here. Total focus & "Eye of the Tiger" moment.
He has a nice sharp back stance form during his pattern demonstration
Board breaking -- reverse knifehand strike (his favourite hand technique)
Board breaking -- spinning hook kick (his favourite kick)
Receiving his red belt.
Receiving his red belt certificate
final bow of respect
