listen to me. this is my final message to you. when you are at your lowest a fictional guy will come to you and when that happens you must start putting them in situations. this is the meaning of life.
Saw someone on Reddit asking what the requirements are for going to the library. Not to get a card and check stuff out. Just to hang out there. I don't mean to make fun of the poster for not knowing. I blame capitalism and the reduction of third spaces for making the idea of being able to just exist in a free public space seem like a strange concept to people. Anyway. This inspired a meme.
I was once in a public library in Alexandria VA (just outside DC) when I watched a librarian carefully explaining to (I'm guessing) a recent immigrant what a public library was and how it worked.
No, you do not have to pay for a library card, she said. And it's good in any library in our system; I can show you a map if you like.
No, you don't have to pay to check books out. Just let us know you have them, and bring them back when you're done.
Yes, you can come in whenever the library's open. You don't have to make an appointment.
Yes, you can read anything in here. There are no restrictions. If there's something you want to read that we don't have, please tell us about it and we can try to get it for you. No, there's no charge for that.
I had to swallow down a lump in my throat. I felt so, so proud to have chosen librarianship as a profession, even if my corner of it was almost entirely unlike what that librarian was doing.

that moment when your attending fully implies that he will be killing himself after giving you his house.
The secret to adulting is this:
Learn how to reduce your resistance against the things you know you have to do.
You don’t have to like it or enjoy it. You just need to stop avoiding, delaying, or ignoring what you know to be in your best interest.
With repeated experience of the benefits, you will learn a new kind of appreciation for the practice we call “adulting.”

Reminder that spring will always come back, music will never stop being created, and there are still so many books left to read! You’re alive! You’re alive! You’re alive!
