His voice is bitter when he speaks. “I have a spell woven into my soul. Against my wishes, I belong to the first person that makes me laugh.” -- Alhaitham somehow adopts a crown and a curse: whoever is the first to make the Sumerian Prince laugh wins his heart. Cyno simply wants to protect his queen through her doomed matchmaking ceremony with Sumeru’s Prince. He has no intention of winning any hearts, but he ends up losing his own.

the prompt was: a canon compliant story in which the General Mahamatra, turned into a ten year old child, is discovered by Alhaitham by chance. Certainly, no one would have expected Alhaitham to be the one little Cyno takes a liking too. But it is even more surprising when Alhaitham volunteers to be the child's caretaker until Cyno can be returned to his original form.

Making Amends

A day in Cyno’s and Alhaitham’s life. Their relationship is not a secret, but they prefer to be super professional during their work hours and refer to each other by title. Once out of the Akademiya’s premises, they don’t hide an ounce of their affection. Today, though, Alhaitham has noticed that Cyno seems a little bit off. He does all in his power to comfort him, even if it’s using techniques that only work on people like him.

Alhaitham and Cyno are attracted to each other but as stubborn as they are they won’t admit it under normal circumstances. Since life has its ways, Cyno ends up with a pen that holds Haitham’s life source. Unbeknownst to him with every stroke of the pen on the journal where he poured his affection towards the Scribe, Alhaitham grew more ill. One day Kaveh found Haitham lying unconscious on the repository’s floor. He managed to take him to Bimarstan, where he woke up after a while. All Alhaitahm could say was “Cyno”, “pen”. So, when Kaveh got to Haitham’s office to look for a trace of the Matra’s whereabouts, he found the journal. Now, he was a man with a mission… reunite Cyno and Alhaitham as this is a rare and strange case of lovesickness.

For the writers: The only guideline to posting on AO3 is that you add your work to the exchange collection. The name of the collection is cyhainoexchange2023, and a direct link to it has been added to the Guidelines docs.

If you don't know what a collection is and/or how to add your work to it, here's a quick guide!

To add your fic to the collection, scroll down to the "Associations" section (found below the section where you input the title, summary and notes for your fic). The very first option will be "Post to Collections"; simply type cyhainoexchange2023 and select the option that shows up in the drop down menu.
