Bye, BoJack.
Bojack Horseman had such a satisfying ending because he’s facing consequences, yes, but he also is assured that Todd, PC, Diane, Mr PB, Hollyhock, etc. won’t become the next Herb, Sarah Lynn, Beatrice, etc. And so the rest of his life is just...him trying to become a better person. And even if he fails or relapses, he will no longer drag his loved ones down with him. And that knowledge is a reward.
Bojack horseman made me realize one of my biggest fears. Knowing that relationships weren’t meant to always last. Even those we considered closest to us won’t be with us forever. One day we might have to say goodbye and be by ourselves. No longer able to rely on those once closest to us.
I don’t know what to do with that information. Knowing it was the last time I might be able to talk to someone I held dear.... It scares me.

*a horrific scene with multiple victims. It started when neighbors reported hearing hundreds of gunshots fired. When Albuquerque police arrived, they discovered the bodies of nine male victims, many shot multiple times. Veteran police officers are calling the level of carnage quote ‘staggering’. Apparently a remote controlled machine gun was used in the killings. Investigators are searching for a person of interest who fled the scene. Anyone with information on this massacre is asked to call police immediately.
I’ve been waiting a year to post this
“Years ago a friend of mine had a dream about a strange invention; a staircase you could descend deep underground, in which you heard recordings of all the things anyone had ever said about you, both good and bad. The catch was, you had to pass through all the worst things people had said before you could get to the highest compliments at the very bottom. There is no way I would ever make it more than two and a half steps down such a staircase, but I understand its terrible logic: if we want the rewards of being loved we have to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known.”
— I Know What You Think of Me, Tim Kreider for the New York Times
after YEARS of seeing this quote online and finding it to be the most deeply and resoundingly profound writing i finally found the source article and absolutely nothing could prepare me for this opening paragraph
You know what’s wild? Remembering that children hear things for the first time without context and are literally like, “What?”
I just said “See you later, alligator” to a four-year-old and I think it was the first time they had ever heard that. They froze in their tracks, looked at me completely bewildered then replied, “See you later, chicken” and kept walking.
my sister has a substitute teacher from the UK who said “Cheerio!” at the end of class and obvi her response was “and froot loops to you” before walking out the door to the bus
