I think Grace would be twice as miserable he was before hail mary. He love earth, but he wasn't happy there, at the end he understood he's happy anywhere rocky is. Thats why I don't agree when people says that the end is bittersweet.

Earth is safe, erid is also safe and Grace is now at a better place where he has actual friends and do what he loves to do.
