T-minus two hours before sunrise―and twenty-nine before the next school day where yet another haplessly unexpected “suicide” amongst the student body will be announced in all of its clerical glory.

JD sat at the edge of what little roofing separated Veronica’s room from the outside world―watching the cigarette placed right between his right index and middle fingers burn to ash from start to finish, completely unaware of the fact that not a single drag had been taken.

The crisp winter air seeped into each fresh wound. Stinging. The one sensation―aside from the near paralyzing euphoria left from the scene of the crime―he was capable of feeling. Asshole wouldn’t go out without a proper fight.

In one staggered movement, JD stood―now facing the window before him. Cigarette filter stuck between two pointed rows of teeth, bobbing up and down as he fidgeted with the lock that stood between him and the love of his fucking life.

Stumbling in, he swung around one last time to flick the ash from the butt between his teeth and toss it back into the elements.

His gaze shot straight for Veronica.

He inched towards her, reveling in a particularly potent bout of post-homicidal lust. Eyes locked. Words left unsaid. Wiping away the coagulated stream of blood that trickled from nose to mouth, he ran both hands through the sides of Veronica’s face and through her hair before taking a firm grasp and arching forwards, maintaining eye- contact up until the point their lips met. It was soft at first.

Breaking away, JD pulled on her bottom lip with his teeth before moving his hands to rest upon her waist, leaving some leeway for a word or two.

❝Veronica...❞

Yeah, simple enough. He thought.

Reaching his arms around her, JD eliminated any negative space between them by pulling her closer―their bodies becoming flush with one another―before going back in to continue where he had left off (only this time deepening their embrace).

At a slight bend, he trailed kisses up from the side of her neck all the way back to her lips where he let his mouth hang open a little wider―waiting this time for Veronica’s next move.
