Seeing the Backrooms movie has only instilled in me how much more I want to be there, to exist in such a space like that.

I get such a geniune euphoria from looking at photos of those forever hallways, yellow walls with the smell of mold clinging to the carpet hanging in my mind. There is such a peace that overwashes me when it comes to liminality and the stillness within the backrooms. I wish I could go there.

Everybody Rides the Carousel is such a beautiful little film and the mime (what they've been officially called despite the whole harlequin appearance) has been sitting in my brain for some time now. What's so funny is I found so much about them and bits of the movie's production itself WHILE scrounging around in archives trying to find details on Jack's source which was sadly to no avail 💔

Still actually considering, but hooigh I love them so much either way, thank you for coming to my ramble session <3

I have always bounced around the idea of making some sort of video essay on various topics, but liminality and why we love it has always been one that's sat in the back corner of my mind. There was a video essay a while ago on this subject and though I loved it, I felt it was much more on the topic of surrealism liminalsm compared to the more grounded version I myself personally connect with.

I connect with this word, this feeling in more ways than one. It feels very descriptive of me as a person, as an entity, as a being. My upbringing is very liminal when I recall back on it. Moving around frequently often puts you in new and empty apartments or houses, the smell of fresh paint still clinging to the carpet you have just set your bags on. The feeling of never truly being able to settle into this space that is meant to be yours, that this is meant to be your home ... for now.

My life, as I'm sure many others can relate to as well, is always in a state of transition. Some sort of change is always occurring.

I think we love liminality because it is a reflection of ourselves. It is memories, it is a feeling that settles in your chest when you look at old places you remember going to when you were younger only for it to be long abandoned now. Much like us, it is in a state of change, it is sitting in a transitional period with hopefully some end goal to it.

There is something so romantic about dressing a mannequin. Being so close, especially when it is on its stand. Putting so much care and effort into its appearance. Bringing life to plastic.
