I like the idea that to alteans sex has basically nothing to do with reproduction, it can stimulate the production of the ova and sperm/their equivalents, but overall it’s largely a way to reaffirm connections - actual fertilisation occurs outside the bodies (as with many fish, amphibians)

in fairness to humans, let's consider the traits we have as a species that are advantageous and that make us so adaptable - our omnivorous diet makes us very good at adapting to new habitats and definitely helped the paladins survive out in space. a specialised diet would be a hinderance. sweating is an incredible thing because being able to thermoregulate so passively and effectively is a major advantage! and stamina! crazy work. we're not the fastest animal, but our persistence is amazing. and we can see an amazing range of colours, to the point that we can tell if most fruit are ripe just by looking at them. we evolved socially and we have such complex communication methods, ranging from verbal to facial expressions and more. we haven't needed to live arboreally in millenia but we've retained many of the traits that allow us to climb efficiently. we have a sense of when we're being watched, we can judge distance because of our front facing eyes and binocular vision, we're wired to notice even tiny movements. our pattern recognition is brilliant and we can use and create/improvise tools. even though we never had to adapt to marine environments, we can still swim quite well, can hold our breath, can float and dive. we can teach and learn and we can pick up new ways and languages to communicate and i just think that's so beautiful. we found areas where we were weaker in and found ways around those problems. and we dance and play and we can be so kind to eachother and we have a natural instinct to want to help and yay peace and love

speaking of cheetahs, i wanted to give keith some more stripes down his face the way cheetahs have -> (photos under cut, also more details, just dont want this to be too long)

im also considering some spotting/ stripes fading into blotches into spots, maybe some eyespots on the backs of his ears like tigers ->

and of course for ears in general i went with servals and caracals

the longer hair along his back then is brown hyena inspired

and wrt proportions i was thinking of taking inspo from maned wolves bc i want him to be able to run quadrepedally as well

this is no where near all my inspos but its the most relevant ones for now

Also to be quite honest the shedding over a short period of time is also penguin inspired shoutout to the Humboldt/jackass penguins. Love you guys

okay ive forgotten whatever i said before abt galra keith but that works out just fine bc i have new ideas

wrt transformation; one idea ive had recently is based on cheetah cubs and how as babies they grow fur to make them look like honey badgers to prevent predation by lions. i feel like that kind of line of thinking would be a fair way to balance out keiths human appearance with a later, more galra appearance; he starts growing in new hair, his black hair sheds out, purplish hair grows in, etc

also since he's in a pretty high stress environment i can imagine this process maybe being accelerated so that he's not left vulnerable while losing/gaining new teeth and claws

so a process that would've otherwise been quite gradual is sped up to happen over only a couple weeks

anyways this is what galra keith looks like. To me. Except the dorsal fur is like seasonal/grows in response to climate so he’s usually just got longer hair on his head

I like to think one of Keith’s more galra features are his decidedly different dentition. @paramoreparaless has a post about Keith probably having teeth somewhere between animalistic and human which is a fabulous idea. I like to think that Keith has an extra canine on one side at the top too. And his canines are generally larger but his extra canine is decidedly a little more human sized, not as sharp as the larger one next to it. This is also the source of his snaggletooth where one edge of his canine kinda sticks out over his lip, more so when he smiles.

Also kinda like the idea of Keith having a tongue that is a little different from a human’s. Like he’s got a kinda funky texture more reminiscent of a cat’s tongue.
