hello. it’s me again, Scylla.

And I’m Anatolius!!!! Hiiiii :)

things have certainly changed over the past couple months. most obviously, i’m back on Aeaea (ha, take that Circe), and i’m back with my wonderful son! and i’m never letting him go again, never.

funnily enough, i’m getting along well with Calypso, Circe’s lover. she’s… sweet. she let me hold her baby. even Circe herself has been pretty civil with me. and i concede: even though he was never her child to raise… Anatolius has grown into a fine boy under her care.

nothing’s new with my beasts, they’re still as darling as ever. they’re all so gentle with my boy, and with Calypso’s baby. i don’t know how anybody could fear them.

all in all, i guess life is on the up and up! while it’ll never be what it used to be, and i’ll always miss the simple, uncomplicated and pretty goddess i was before… i do admit that things are looking brighter.

Anatolius eventually found them, albeit very far from the garden, instead sitting on the beach. He stopped at least seven paces away, not wanting to get too close and spook them. A knot of anxiety squirmed in his tummy, like a worm in the dirt, but he knew he had to push forward and do this.

“E-excuse me, mil- um… miperson?”

Anatolius instantly raised his hands to the level of his eyes, a sign of pacifism.

“I’m not here to upset you or hurt your feelings again, I promise. I’ve learned my lesson now, I-I just want to say sorry for it… if you’ll let me?”

The Court scooted back from him a little bit, still afraid. But he didn't call them a girl this time, and he seemed sorry for it. Maybe they should give him a chance.

They nodded, keeping their eyes trained on him. Ready to run at the first sign that he's bad.

A cautiously optimistic smile flickered across his face.

“I’m really sorry that I called you a lady and upset you. I really didn’t mean it, I didn’t know you were a they, but that’s not an excuse. I wish I could go back in time and un-say it.”

Anatolius fidgeted with his hands.

“… Um… a-am I right, in thinking you’re a they? Is that why you were upset?”

"Only the bad clients call The Court a girl."

Anatolius nodded slowly. He had never heard the word clients, but it certainly sounded bad.

“I see… And… The Court is you? That’s your name?”

They point at themselves.

"The Court."

They gesture to him.

"Your name?"

“Huh, that’s a really unique name. I’ve never heard of somebody having a ‘The’ in their name before. I’m Anatolius!”

He started to smile more consistently, starting to loosen up and feel more and more hopeful. He glanced down to the woven basket he carried on his arm.

“I… put together a little peace offering, if you’re interested?”

The Court nods, curious.

"What is it?"

Anatolius placed the basket down a little closer to The Court, before stepping back again, just in case they still had reservations.

“I don’t know what you like, but I tried to make some guesses. There’s a slice of really yummy banana bread that Lady Circe made yesterday, it still feels pretty fresh. I like flowers and outdoor things, and I like giving them as gifts, so I picked some things out of the garden too. There’s a hyacinth, because they’re good flowers for saying sorry, and two marigolds, because they almost kind of match your eyes. There’s also a little piece of bark off one of the trees, because it’s brown like your hair and your cloak. Oh, and moss! Because moss is nice and you seem like the type of person to like moss.”

Anatolius then paused, realising that the sheer number of gifts might be a little overwhelming.

“Ah- you can have it all if you want, but if it’s too much, you can just pick out the things you like. I’m sure I can find a use for the rest!”

The Court looked through the basket of things. They picked out the marigolds, they would keep these. Then the moss. It felt strange in their hand, and they played with it for a little bit.

Then the hyacinth. It was purple. And long. Kind of like the types of flowers mama used to braid into their hair. They put the flower on top their head.

"I miss mama."

For a fleeting moment, Anatolius looked and felt like he was being held hostage. That came out of nowhere, and in any other situation, he might have cruelly pretended he didn’t hear it. But… he couldn’t do that here. He needed to commit to this! This person was his first friend outside of his family and Lord Hermes. They were special.

“O-oh… I’m sorry, The Court. Um… y’know, I didn’t know my mummy for a long time, she only came here a month ago… so I guess I kind of know how you feel? It sucks to miss somebody special.”

The Court nods.

"Mama and papa... they probably won't be away forever. The Court will see them soon! The Court just has to be patient."

“Yeah. Being patient is hard… but it’s a really good thing to be. Lady Circe always said that all good things come to those who wait. I hope you don’t have to wait too long though!”

Anatolius subconsciously shifted on his feet, feeling warm and fuzzy inside. That was probably a feeling of accomplishment, now that things had all gone according to plan!

“So… will I see you around Aeaea often? That’s what this island’s called, by the way.”

As Anatolius walked in, there was an odd hardness to his steps, bordering on full-on stomps. There were grass stains on his clothes, and a light dusting of dirt on his face. His brows and lips were pulled downwards, in a very uncharacteristic frown.

Something had definitely pissed off the child. The question was, what?

Anatolius sat down next to Calypso, huffing as he looked down at the hand-arranged posy of flowers in his hand, bound together with orange ribbon.

“Hi, Lady Calypso. Is this bouquet any good, at all? I think it’s rubbish.”

*She looked at the flowers. Rubbish? How? She smiled and pat his head. Kailani sitting on her lap with a bottle.* “I think it’s a lovely bouquet! Why would you think it’s bad..? You arrange flowers so beautifully.” *She looked down at the flowers and frowned..*

“What’s on your mind. You seem more upset about something else. Something that’s not flowers.. so, tell me darling boy, what’s happening..?”

Anatolius let out a deep sigh, and leaned his head on Calypso’s shoulder, nuzzling in for comfort as his eyes welled up with tears.

“… I-I met a pretty girl, in the garden… but she ran away from me! She looked almost… scared, but I don’t know what I did to frighten her! I remembered all my manners, I smiled at her, I even called her ‘milady’!”

*She looked a bit confused. Girl problems.. right.. shit.. uhhhh.. she wasn’t good at this. She wasn’t good at emotional things at all except for.. anyways..*

“Well umm..” *She ran her nails across his scalp as she gently scratched his head.* “Maybeee.. uhhh..” *She was trying to think.* “Maybe.. she’s not the one for you..?” *She said. That’s what she told herself when Odysseus denied her time and time again.*

“Do the three strike rule! This was strike one. Try two more times and then.. if she denies you after that.. she’s..” *She sighed and looked at Kailani who was now holding the flowers as calypso had to stop her from eating them.* “Then she’s not the one..”

Anatolius chuckled weakly as he watched his baby sister trying to eat his flowers.

“Kailani! Flowers aren’t food, silly! I mean, some are, but not these ones!”

He gently pulled the posy away from her, smiling softly up at Calypso.

“Okay… three strikes. Got it. A-although, I don’t even know if I like her like that; I’ve only just met her.”

Anatolius then fell into quiet thought, as Calypso continued to massage his head. Come to think of it, the girl had seemed okay with him, until the greeting left his lips… until the word ‘milady’. And come to think of it, she had short, un-girlish hair, and wore a chiton and heavy drape, instead of any kind of dress…

“… Aww, fiddlesticks. I think I know what I did to upset her.”

“Ever since she’s had that.. apple mushy stuff Circe made her. She’s tried to eat everything. I mean.. everything.” *She laughed a bit and tried to get it out of the baby’s tight little grip.* “Let go you fat baby..” *She said gritting her teeth as Kailani just laughed at her mother.*

“I mean.. that’s how it was for me and Circe.. but.. what do you think upset her? I’m sure whatever it was, there was a misunderstanding or something..!” *She looked down at him and smiled.*

“Well, I called her ‘milady’, because I thought she was a girl… but now that I think about it, I think she might actually be a they. Y’know, like how Mummy is sometimes? I think sh- they might’ve been upset, because I called them ‘milady’ when they weren’t a lady.”

Anatolius kept going over it in his head. It seemed right. And now that he knew what he did wrong, he could say sorry, and maybe they’d be friends! Although, now there was a different problem…

“… How do you say sorry to someone for that?”

“Oh! I know! I did this when I apologized to Circe once!” *She clapped her hands and smiled after taking the flowers. Handing them back to Anatolius.*

“You’re gonna watch. Like.. WATCH from a distance. See how they live, see what makes them smile. Don’t let them see you though. Apparently that’s creepy. It’s not creepy if you’re not caught.. anyways. You’re gonna see what they take interest in. If you see something that they seem to like. You use that to your advantage!”

“Like Circe, for example. She really likes glass bottles and herbs! So I scoured the island and found her some and gave her some of the glass bottles I brought from my island! And have them to her before apologizing!”

*She smiled.. Calypso. That’s stalking.*

“Oh! Um… hmm.”

Anatolius thought for a moment. He wasn’t sure how he felt about secretly watching someone, that seemed awfully disrespectful… but he liked the idea of appealing to the person’s interests. Maybe he could infer some things based on the brief moment he saw of them? Yeah, that sounded good…

“I’ll see what I can do. Thank you, Lady Calypso. You always know what to say!”

Anatolius finally smiled, and threw a big hug around Calypso, giving Kailani an affectionate scratch on the head as well. He got up to leave, but stopped, remembering why he had been in the garden, and the bouquet in his hand.

“Ooh- if I leave these flowers with you, could you give them to Snowflake? It’s an ‘I forgive you’ bouquet, after she tried to bite me. I would just give it to her now, but Mummy and Lady Circe are busy having serious talk time.”

“For sure kid! Just make a spare just in case. The little bugger here has been eating anything she can get her fat hands on.”

*She laughed poking Kailani on her tummy and smiling.* “I’ll keep them safe as possible!”

Anatolius tittered.

“Thanks. I’ll see you later, I’ll be back in time for dinner - I’ve got a sorry to say!”

And then the boy ran off, looking in far better spirits than he had come in with.

Anatolius kept going over it in his head. It seemed right. And now that he knew what he did wrong, he could say sorry, and maybe they’d be friends! Although, now there was a different problem…

“Oh! I know! I did this when I apologized to Circe once!” *She clapped her hands and smiled after taking the flowers. Handing them back to Anatolius.*

“You’re gonna watch. Like.. WATCH from a distance. See how they live, see what makes them smile. Don’t let them see you though. Apparently that’s creepy. It’s not creepy if you’re not caught.. anyways. You’re gonna see what they take interest in. If you see something that they seem to like. You use that to your advantage!”

“Like Circe, for example. She really likes glass bottles and herbs! So I scoured the island and found her some and gave her some of the glass bottles I brought from my island! And have them to her before apologizing!”

Anatolius thought for a moment. He wasn’t sure how he felt about secretly watching someone, that seemed awfully disrespectful… but he liked the idea of appealing to the person’s interests. Maybe he could infer some things based on the brief moment he saw of them? Yeah, that sounded good…

“I’ll see what I can do. Thank you, Lady Calypso. You always know what to say!”

Anatolius finally smiled, and threw a big hug around Calypso, giving Kailani an affectionate scratch on the head as well. He got up to leave, but stopped, remembering why he had been in the garden, and the bouquet in his hand.

“Ooh- if I leave these flowers with you, could you give them to Snowflake? It’s an ‘I forgive you’ bouquet, after she tried to bite me. I would just give it to her now, but Mummy and Lady Circe are busy having serious talk time.”

As Anatolius walked in, there was an odd hardness to his steps, bordering on full-on stomps. There were grass stains on his clothes, and a light dusting of dirt on his face. His brows and lips were pulled downwards, in a very uncharacteristic frown.

Something had definitely pissed off the child. The question was, what?

Anatolius sat down next to Calypso, huffing as he looked down at the hand-arranged posy of flowers in his hand, bound together with orange ribbon.

“Hi, Lady Calypso. Is this bouquet any good, at all? I think it’s rubbish.”

*She looked at the flowers. Rubbish? How? She smiled and pat his head. Kailani sitting on her lap with a bottle.* “I think it’s a lovely bouquet! Why would you think it’s bad..? You arrange flowers so beautifully.” *She looked down at the flowers and frowned..*

“What’s on your mind. You seem more upset about something else. Something that’s not flowers.. so, tell me darling boy, what’s happening..?”

Anatolius let out a deep sigh, and leaned his head on Calypso’s shoulder, nuzzling in for comfort as his eyes welled up with tears.

“… I-I met a pretty girl, in the garden… but she ran away from me! She looked almost… scared, but I don’t know what I did to frighten her! I remembered all my manners, I smiled at her, I even called her ‘milady’!”

*She looked a bit confused. Girl problems.. right.. shit.. uhhhh.. she wasn’t good at this. She wasn’t good at emotional things at all except for.. anyways..*

“Well umm..” *She ran her nails across his scalp as she gently scratched his head.* “Maybeee.. uhhh..” *She was trying to think.* “Maybe.. she’s not the one for you..?” *She said. That’s what she told herself when Odysseus denied her time and time again.*

“Do the three strike rule! This was strike one. Try two more times and then.. if she denies you after that.. she’s..” *She sighed and looked at Kailani who was now holding the flowers as calypso had to stop her from eating them.* “Then she’s not the one..”

Anatolius chuckled weakly as he watched his baby sister trying to eat his flowers.

“Kailani! Flowers aren’t food, silly! I mean, some are, but not these ones!”

He gently pulled the posy away from her, smiling softly up at Calypso.

“Okay… three strikes. Got it. A-although, I don’t even know if I like her like that; I’ve only just met her.”

Anatolius then fell into quiet thought, as Calypso continued to massage his head. Come to think of it, the girl had seemed okay with him, until the greeting left his lips… until the word ‘milady’. And come to think of it, she had short, un-girlish hair, and wore a chiton and heavy drape, instead of any kind of dress…

“… Aww, fiddlesticks. I think I know what I did to upset her.”

The Scylla and how I (AS IN ME) would portray them.

Epic/ Odyssey She would be monstrous. Large. At least 20 ft tall in her largest form. She knows how to keep herself safe, staying in the shadows and out of range for most archers. Her body is in constant pain, and no skin around her ribs and stomach shows her black and rotten intestines. Their heads can be deceptive, like the sirens; they can lure a sailor in by showing Scylla before her hellish transformation. The screams of her heads as they destroy ships and eat sailors is her body's way of screaming out her pain. She moves like a contortionist. Her bones break easily and she tends to break them on rocks easily, so she's usually wrapped in her many heads embrace. She can deceive most sailors with her old body. A thin lady, young, skin that's white as snow, big green eyes, and long black hair. Which she projected as she spoke to Odysseus after killing the 6 men with torches. standing behind him and holding his arm out to the light before she slunk away. Diving into the water, avoiding Eurylochus' sword. She is fed by one god every month. They keep her alive to make sure she does her job and protect her home and the waterways to make sailors consider what to do.
