Introduction/where Rina meets the cast: Cobalt Skies, Splashing Tides
The Cobalt Convergence is an event that takes place every other year at the Cobalt Archipelago as their form of a festival to celebrate their nation. (Kinda like Independence Day, except they didn’t really win independence from anyone?) NRC attends the CC and has a great time discovering the history with Rina. They discover that an artifact has been stolen and spend the event helping Rina get it back before the end-of-week event, Unity Day.

ESTRANGED AND REBIRTHED
Chrysa Qunque is an only child, with no grandparents, aunts, or uncles that aren't dead or in a hospital already. As far as he knows, he doesn't have anybody else that he's related to besides his parents and Rina Lockhart, who is an estranged cousin and someone who Chrysa actually doesn't know that well because of his parents prohibiting Chrysa from ever speaking with her. Therefore, the merhybrid thought that perhaps it would be a good idea to bring her along to see NRC, while also learning about the secrets of his family in the process. Maybe, when the two spend some time at the Mostro Lounge together, Chrysa will find out that his family tree is more complex than he thought.
Mostro lounge is bustling with energy during the late hours, especially around nine on Fridays when everybody finishes their homework and decides to spend the rest of their weekend partying. Of course, a party isn't really a party if Chrysa isn't in the picture—he practically officiates these things, so you'll find him only at every event that he deems worthy of going to.
In this case, what he deems worthy is an event at the lounge, where any student can bring a tag-along to drink and smoke and dance. Since all of his friends are in school, and his mother isn't here to dictate whether or not he's allowed to bring certain people, he thought fuck it and decided to bring his distant cousin along. She's been wanting to visit NRC for a while anyway, and bringing someone pretty like her will probably just up his popularity, so he doesn't mind.
"Oh, so that's where you scampered off to. To get a snack. Obviously. Should have known you were a fatass."
Chrysa rolls his eyes, twisting to face her and crossing his legs on the stool he's sitting on. He gestures to the stool in front of him, but when she goes to sit on it, Chrysa knocks it away from her, which causes her to almost fall on her ass.
"Of course NRC is better than I described. Did you really have any doubts that my word would be false? I'm Chrysa Quinque, the most truthful tom in town!"
Rina pauses walking to face her relative. "Wow, what a way to greet a member of your family. But, I'll just.. forget that. Good evening, Chrysa!" She smiles brightly, already shoveling food in her mouth.
"Rina Lockhart, at your service. It's rude to try and knock people over, you know? Imagine if I had gotten hurt. Professor Limner back home would never let you hear the end of it.~" Rina snickers a little.
"And look who decided to save me a seat anyway. Maybe you aren't as big of a jerk as Floyd described you to be." Rina considers flicking some food at Chrysa, but decides against it. "Your letter certainly painted you as one."
"Floyd described me as a jerk? I thought that guy liked me! Either he's shitting me, or you've just got a bad sense of others."
Chrysa rolls his eyes, leaning his elbow against the island as he chuckles. While Rina is busy sitting down, Chrysa grabs a few fries from her plate and takes a bit of all of them at once before she can say anything.
"My letter was fine! It didn't paint me as shit! I didn't paint the letter!"
Wrong. That letter almost looked like a threat—"Hey you. Come to Mostro Lounge's event or I'll sue you."—until she saw who it was from. Fortunately, the two know each other well enough for Rina to know that Chrysa wasn't actually going to sue, because if she didn't, some bad shit would've gone down.
"Whatever. I guess I'll leave you at the lounge alone, since you wanna be the jerk around here. But you're gonna have to give me your food in return."
"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah is all I'm hearing." Rina mutters between bites. "Oh no, you're staying here. You don't get to see your long-lost cousin and then ditch!"
"So, how's being rich and living it up with all the other rich people? Gets boring, huh?" Rina grabs some food off of Chrysa's plate as payback, and shoves it into her mouth.
"You'd love the islands. If your mom would ever let you come. Floyd loved them." Rina thinks back to the last Cobalt Convergence, where Floyd had made himself quite at home. "Seems like she'd let you go to big cultural events like that."
Chrysa chokes on his fries, taking a sip of water to get his bearings back. He coughs a few more times before clearing his throat and blurting what he wants to say.
"Floyd loved them? That Floyd? Is he trying to wife you up or something? What the hell's he doing there?"
Chrysa snorts, bursting into laughter, he claps his hands, as if the notion of Floyd having a crush is the funniest thing in the world.
"HA! I'm gonna be teasing him about this for the next three centuries!"
He takes a few more fries from Rina, pushing his plate away when Rina tries to get back at him again. He snickers, taking off a ring he has on his middle finger and flipping it on his palm a few times. It looks expensive, and he makes a clear effort to make it the center of attention when he speaks.
"Being rich isn't boring. It's fulfilling. I've got a ton of friends now because of it, and I can do whatever the hell I want. Maybe if I'm feeling nice, I'll slide you a few, eh?"
He holds up the ring, winking.
"This thing costs a pretty penny."
Chrysa goes back to twirling it in his hand as he continues to speak.
Rina visibly greens at the thought of Floyd having a crush on her. "He came for NRC's visit to the islands for the Cobalt Convergence. He's definitely, uh, clingy..." She grimaces, clearly not liking the idea of Floyd liking her in that way.
"You know what? I'm not surprised that ring was on your middle finger. As if you even know how to use human fingers."
"Fulfilling... got it. Well, don't complain to me next time you don't know how to do something hands-on, alright?"
"I'm not poor! Stop making up that I'm poor."
Rina snatches more of Chrysa's food when he isn't paying attention.
In Chrysa's heart, he's just a gossipy middle schooler who wants to know everything about everyone—especially their crushes. When he hears that someone likes somebody else, he's already on the case, getting intel and selling it off to the one who's crushing at a "cheap" price. He's not giving his services away for free, after all.
"Why do you look so disgusted? Don't want him to have a crush on you? Do you already have someone from around here who's stolen your heart?~"
Chrysa giggles at the notion, leaning in and whispering to Rina.
"No! Floyd was the WORST behaved when NRC came to the islands. He was climbing all over important statues, touching things i EXPLICITLY told him not to touch, hogging all the food, the whole ordeal."
Rina grimaces at the memory. "I don't think I like anyone, you freakin' teenager. And even if I did, I wouldn't tell some family member I just met!"
She eats more of her food. "Enough about... Floyd." She says the name like she wishes it wasn't a word.
It was the day before the reenactment but the festival was starting and the Students from NRC and RSA were starting to arrive. Verena was at the festival grounds tense with excitement to welcome the newcomers and potentially make new friends.
Rina observes all the beautiful decorations, snapping pictures like an absolute tourist every few minutes. She puts her camera away and takes out her clipboard, beginning to take notes.
"O-kay! Attend a culture festival.. I can cross that off the list now!"
Verena lit up as she quickly came over to Rina’s side.“Oh hello there! Welcome to fluer city! We’re happy to have you here! Are you going to be staying here for tomorrow’s reenactment?”
“Verena shade! First year at Nobel Bell College. I’m actually going to be performing at the reenactment this year. The students of Nobel bell are in charge of the reenactment, but we flip between the adults and the children each year so that everyone has a chance. I do hope you enjoy it.”
She smiled as she picked a flower and tucked it into Rina’s hair.

“ no, no! why are you slicing the mandrakes?! ”
the whisper yell of the ginger cut through focus easily. like he's practiced to be able to snap people to attention so easily.
typically, in professor crewel's potions class specifically, the man allowed everyone to pair up individually with those they were friends with so they could have an easier time. . . however, this time, he assigned partners! completely rude, but whatever.
whether or not Hatton was friends with this bumbling rat who is his potions partner, he is positively annoyed.
potions class is both a breeze and horribly detrimental to him. it's a class everyone in pomefiore exceeds in, so it includes Hatton, naturally. it's easy, refreshing and assuming he's pairing with the usual competent person, it is no big deal. the issue is changing into lab coats, tying his hair back ( a real big pain. ) and on the rare session his partner is, in his humble words, a big fucking idiot.
Hatton grabs the knife from his potions partner, “ we're meant to only cut them in half and crush them, not dice them! ” he scolds, brow furrowing from behind the goggles in surprising amounts of irritation that he has not seen since last club rush. Hatton holds the knife as if he is about to stab his partner. then puts it down, breathing slowly. “ throw that away, i'll get another one. ”
it is said very. very demanding manner. then, for some reason, he changes his mind, instead reaching to grab the apparently incorrectly prepared ingredient, “ no, you know what? i will dispose of it! figure out how to listen to instructions, if you would, and do it properly! this is the last ingredient, it is the least you can do. ”
Rina sits still as she listens to Hatton yap on about potion instructions. "Right, right! I'm sorry, potions isn't my strong suit!!" Rina scrambles to slice more ingredients, laser-focused on the knife despite her shaky hands. This internship stuff is so dumb, she thought.
The intern straightens her lab coat and slides her goggles higher onto her face. "Hey, if you know what you're doing so well, why don't you show me how to do this stuff instead of hogging my grade?"
Slacking was one of the biggest offenses at Rina's home school. She'd never hear the end of it from Professor Limren if she heard about it. Not only that, but her housemates would totally rip her for it.
