those aren't even questions, those are homescreens!
Q1: What are some of your favorite cities to visit and why?

Apparently, Canada has all the ideals of the United Stats but executed properly. /via Matthew Mira? Myra? Steve?

Only someone who graduated from youdummy would think that.
Step it up, Bored.
This is a milestone episode... episode one zero.
Q4: Do you how many GD (that doesn't stand for George Diab) emails Asana sends me?
George's happy app review: "I think Facebook is a social network that is better than some of the other ones."
George's unhappy app review: "Asana: Yeah it's bad. I wish we weren't using it."
Step it up, Sacca. Can't you tell how edited this episode is?!?
Step it up, George.
Q5: Hey, are you going to the twitter? The twitter thing?
Ann is not longer at the mailbox.
George missed another rain.

9 - Fear & Loathing
01:00 - Some new folks have joined the Bored.
02:45 - George is sounding a little biblical - or is it The Byrds?
11:55 - Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars
16:13 - Thomas says startup founders absolutely can have work-life balance. George thinks maybe otherwise. Discuss.
19:30 - Eating and sleeping are required human functions, says George.
19:56 - Polyphasic sleep is maybe an option, but probably not if you have a spouse, kids, or friends.
24:00 - Obligatory Lil John reference when George realizes his notifications are not, in fact, turned down.
24:10 - George tries to bust Thomas for being late. He fails. Make up hugs are in order.
26:00 - WARNING - Pinned items noted from previous episodes must be stated in the form of a question. "We just Jeopardy'd their asses," proclaims Thomas.
27:25 - Slack vs Hipchat? No contest. Slack is just better. And probably cheaper. Watch out for jingoistic Slacking. Or Jenga-istic. Though our admirable hosts probably meant nepotistic Slacking.
28:35 - Wait, is the discussion about ferrets and the musk family (scientific name Mustelidae) an unintentional call-back to Elon Musk from earlier this episode?
29:20 - Thomas will gladly berate you for HAVING CONVERSATIONS IN THE QUESTIONS CHANNEL.
30:45 - Thomas drops the first reference to a The Bored Meeting hack-a-thon weekend. First proposal? An ABC Slackbot.
32:00 - Rejection therapy. Sounds ridiculous. Sometimes works.
34:15 - George was once part of Toastmaster, because he was (is?) a brown-noser.
37:49 - Introversion shaming is SWEEPING THE NATION.

48:02 - Q: What are you most afraid of (professionally)?
49:08 - "All I got was, 'success.' WTF?" -George
49:25 - Fear tastes like a 9-volt battery.
53:02 - Losing data is scary.
53:44 - I was going more for Meghan Trainor or something.
55:15 - Wherein someone at Zappos gets a $7,000,000 education.
58:44 - "I would be most afraid of getting stuck for years and years of my life doing something that drains my life away." -Thomas
1:00:07 - Josh needs to pin the conversation about people that worked together. Super vague.
1:01:31 - Considering how many people are NOT sponsors of this podcast, it is amazing and awesome that WorkingOn are sponsors of this podcast.
1:03:32 - Q: Which is better? Apples or Celery?
1:04:05 - Yeah, so George hates Celery. Like, deeply.
1:04:35 - "Apple pie is better than Waldorf salad. But, Ants on a Log are better than Celery." -Thomas
1:06:42 - "You're an adult. Eat what is put in front of you. Put it in your mouth and shut up." -George

7: Loss Leaders
Thomas & George, IN THE SAME ROOM.
Turns out we really like this new coffee shop in town, who will probably not ever be sponsors, called Finders and Makers (and builders?)
"Sometimes in life, theatrics are just reality." -TK
BTW, is really difficult to add a new portal to ingress.
Wherein Thomas adds a new item to his bucket-list: having a park bench memorialized in his honor.
The secret is out, Sarah Vainer has a compact car.
George, after the burn, somewhat confused.
This is the moment that Rock becomes Acid Rock.
FYI, this is what a Balarney stone looks like.
Mark Cicoria probably found everything that we talked about. But he should get a podcast.
George never wants to talk about White Bear Lake again.

Thomas is into records for the same reasons he is into TapTalk.
George calls BestBuy a record store, and considers himself very similar to the people in High Fidelity
Our Lady of Peace won a canadian grammy, and once played a set in a Las Vegas parking lot.
Rodrigo y Gabriela might be considered Latin Pop.
Ann Diab sings more louder when she's more happier. But not on the show.

Wherein Thomas and George bomb the ABC game, again.

6: Stress and Survival
Thomas reminds George that everyone loves George.
Thomas' wife Kim, an LMFT and coach taught him something about Narrative Therapy
George does not wear his shitiness like a stinky jacket.
Thomas can't remember the name for any of these things.
No one is watching you
George did NOT research owls before this episode.
Thomas does NOT have his shit together.
Almost getting into a car accident should cause your adrenaline to surge.
"I have been at this for less long." -GD
"This that were happen to people thing." -TK
"Fearless" is dangerous. Fear is a gift.
Thomas gave a talk at Zappos all hands, right before the downtown thing started to take off, presumably to share a story about crossing through fear to pursue crazy dreams. He could not however find a video of the talk.
SHOWNOTES!!!
Wherein Thomas doesn't climb up on his soapbox about Community Management.
George's beard is looking glorious.
Google is not a sponsor of this podcast.
Lately, Thomas is becoming an oxytocin fiend.
p.s. Oxycontin is not the same thing as oxytocin.
George has a new nootropic he's trying called Gabawave from The Bulletproof Exec
Um, Happy New Year everybody.
Thomas doesn't make New Years resolutions, he's just trying to work on his same three theme words: Tenacity. Integrity. Compassion.
Wherein Thomas goes all Twin Peaks.
George and Thomas focus more on reviewing the previous year, than setting resolutions for the next year.
Thomas burned George's copy of "The 48 Laws of Power" in the backyard.
"Crowds are stupid." -TK
This episode was not sponsored by Crown Royal Maple or Grey Goose La Pouir
Maybe we should test that API for fine-tuning audio
Sara's participles never dangle. And you can meet her in The Bored Room!
Honestly, the community is way more valuable than this podcast.
What is drugs?
George recommends the film Nebraska. Thomas watches it.
George does not own Oppression on vinyl.
Cover Art: "Vaux-le-Vicomte 23" by Georg Naggies Closing Song: Ben Harper - Oppression
I miss you. Be good. Be safe. Travel well. Bye.
5: Decision Making
Starting off with the real question, has Ann figured out TapTalk yet?
Bored Member Josh Frank, who is working on Adjust Creative has a question about Decision Making.
Josh's favorite color, Cornflower Blue, only shows up in 48 packs of Crayons.
George is not an evangelist for Microsoft, but he thinks Azure is better than AWS.
Josh asks, "........ dial tone ........"
We assume he would have said something like, "What are some tools or hacks for helping small teams make better decisions?"
e.g. the "Fuck Yes! / Fuck No!" strategy.
Everyone can download and install George's personal ring-tone. It costs $0.99 but you can have it for free.
Bored Member Max Aceituno built an app called yDecision that helps with decision making. Poke him on Twitter to ask for a preview.
TacoBell is a great forcing function on lunch decisions.
George decides that Josh should never come back on a call, since nothing could be better than his cliffhanger of a question.
Thomas tells George about Slack Chats, which is kind of like a ProductHunt for Slack communities.
George giggled.
Thomas has joined Nomads,Afternoon Coffee, and #starup.
George is also a member of the Motel slack.
Wherein George and Thomas decide, "We're kindof a big deal."
WorkingOn is going to create a new slack for their customer community rather than just adding a guest channel to their company slack.
So, yeah, Slack are still not sponsors, but we're going to start holding our breaths.
[silence]
George likes that Assembly noticed us on the twitters. Thomas reminds him that they are still not sponsors.
BD = Beyond Dinnertime?
Cover Art = The Kiwi Chronicles Closing Song = DJ Flack - O Chanukah (Dubstep Bassline Remix)
I miss you. Be Good. Be Safe. Travel Well. Bye.
4: Human Resources
We are quite certain that AT&T will never be a sponsor.
Someone needs to remind George to check his Discover card to make sure he hasn't been charged 17 times.
Wherein George decides that Wedgies should probably blow their funding by becoming our first sponsor
George and Thomas laugh for a little bit.
Robin Williams had a line item on his rider to hire homeless people to work on the project
The Bored forgets to tell us about things we pin but don't unpun.
Wherein George and Thomas get suuuuuuper hypotheical.
"A firing can be a great experience, if you do it properly, I think." āGeorge
"You can always change yourself. You can never expect to change someone else." āTK
Thomas and George almost devolve into Fart jokes, but we didn't. Whew.
Josh Frank doesn't answer the phone.
So, Thomas hangs right up on George.
Thomas is a little sad to officially be a Podcast now, because he is a hypocrite.
George is Bigoted, and Thomas is racist. According to bad logic.
Turns out, Google image search is racist, not us.
And, Google doesn't think George is a terrorist. But, he's something.
Thomas shaved, becuase he didn't want to be considered Lumbersexual.
Hipster bashing in full force.
It's us and them now. And we are royal we. Let me graph that out for you.
So, Taptalk
IN A WORLD... where everyone is acting, Taptalk lets me be myself.
Thomas tweeted: Why work so hard to pretend like you are someone else to get people to like you? You will still feel alone. They like that actor, not you.
e.g. this week Instagram deleted millions of known spambots
Check out this infographic my buddy Zach Allia made about the instargram exodus.
The "Taptalk Moment" isn't even the photo or the video, it is the moment that we shared that connects us even more.
Thomas wants to have that one place in his life where everything is personal and meaningful.
George wants Taptalk to train their users to "get it". Because he didn't "just get it."
Thomas' aha moment was seeing a video of one of the founders of Taptalk describe why Taptalk works the way it does.
George is worried about using the app while naked.
George's recommendations for using Taptalk: (1) Expect to get a lot of things wrong at first, (2) Don't use the app while naked, (3) Probably start off with just silly pictures until you get a hang of it.
George was telling Sacca, "Taptalk is distracting enough that you will temporarily forget that you're going to die."
Maybe we can get Taptalk to be a sponsor, since George provided them a great tagline.
Thomas normally creates self-imposed guidelines for who he will add to services. e.g. Tap talk is only for people I am willing to send a video to the minute I wake up; Linkedin is only for people I can personally refer to someone else; and Path is only for people I've "slept with".
"I've almost slept with your wife." āāGeorge
In case you missed it, George said "for funsies".
Cover Art: Murphy Bed Closing Song: The Harvey Averne Band - Lets Get It Together For Christmas (Skeemix Re-Wiff)
I miss you. Be Good. Be Safe. Travel Well. Bye.
3: Open Source
George makes Nootropics that taste like feet.
Dehydration is sweeping the nation.
Non-newtonian fluids are fun, and not good at keeping time.
Speaking of development, have you seen Assembly yet?
Wherein George teaches Thomas about the other assembly.
Wherein Thomas teaches George about Assembly
Assembly is kind of like Github + SourceForge + Slack + Bitcoin
Clue: Hotdish is yummy but weird.
SHOWNOTES!!!
Thomas says, "Please steal my ideas and build them for me."
During the many chapters of Digg, the people change over time.
Our own community has been a lot of fun this week. You should join! Click here to request a nomination to The Bored.
One of these days, weāll get Daniel Smith on the show.
Once we get Simple together, weāll be rich.
Ecamm skype recorder, just to be clear, is still not a sponsor of this show.
Also, Mailchimp is still officially not a sponsor of the show. Though they are killing it over at Serial.
Maybe Simple is going to be our first sponsor?
Is this a podcast? PLEASE VOTE: Yeah. Nope.
Michael Sacca asks an important question.
BTW, Michal has a more professional Recording Subscription Event called Rocketship.fm
Thomas definitely beat out Ryan Hoover on his ranked ratings, but he isnāt going to listen to this anyway.
Michael is also making a book with tons of great ideas and advice from seasoned entrepreneurs. You can get your own copy.
George bought a copy.
When Michael isnāt serving as a Bored member, and recording an awesome podcast, he is building WithCircle with an ex-goooooogler.
George is pretty good at the #abc game. He only has one KickBanDelete on his record.
"All true love requires a certain amount of competition." āāTK
"I view life as a dry run." āāTK
"I think that itās good to be prepared. You know, a little bit." āāGee
Good news people, Thomas read a ton of Warren Ellis, and it didnāt disappoint.
However, what is disappointing is that it is really hard to experience a story again for the first time.
Can you read a story or watch a show again and enjoy it?
"Sometimes youāre not in the right place to consume a thing." āāGee
George loves Ben Harper, and can differentiate between him and Lenny Kravitz.
3 years after the first time he heard it, George discovered he loved Welcome to the Cruel World
Cover Art: Wisteria Closing Song: Serial Theme Mashup (ft. Miley Cyrus) - MAILCHIMP EDITION!!!!!
I miss you. Be Good. Be Safe. Travel Well. Bye.
2: Location Matters
After a couple of rough starts, because George is very important, Episode 2 breaks into a healthy pace.
Just to be clear, this episode is not called, "Ep 2: That's a Stereotype"
Dude and other dude had a great dynamic when selling stuff. (This is a Breaking Bad Spoiler Alert.)
Ugh, life is so hard when you have to wait to consume things for basically free.
The graphic novels of Walking Dead are a bit different from the show.
George is too busy reading Transmetroplitan, by Warren Ellis, to finish Walking Dead.
Hunter S. Thompson was once played by Bill Murray. No really!
Thomas would stalk Warren Ellis if it wasn't too lazy. Instead he just collects all his digital raves (not rants, raves). e.g. morning.computer, ambient podcast, public newsletter, and a few more he either cannot mention, or wonāt.
Thomas really likes āLetters to a Young Poet" but just can't get into anything else Rainer Maria Rilke wrote.
Since the recording of this episode, Thomas' had now read 3 of Ellis' actual books and he really enjoyed it. So, it's not the same thing as RMR.
In Downtown Vegas, at The Writerās Block there is a really cool book printing machine where you print 1-off copies of books for around $6 to $10
We might try to print off a copy of The Passion Planner from the printer. But, we'd rather have it lay flat... so we're going to punch it for the Levenger Circa system instead.
SHOWNOTES! A little self-reffernetial, donāt you think?
Oh yeah, so we have a community slack for The Bored Room. You are probably going to want to join it to talk shop. (Or to play the ABC game.)
George doesn't like orange.
Since George isn't busy (haha) he should probably open a comic-book/record/grilled-cheese shoppe. But, that's a dumb idea because he would have to use gluten-free bread.
George's top three favorite breads:
Pita
Baguette / French bread
Sourdough Tortillas
Great people are open to influence. Whereas people who cannot see magic eyes should be condemned to an island.
Thomas quit Ingress. George likes Ingress more than people.
Apple is not a sponsor of this episode. Also, neither Ingress nor Google are sponsors of this episode.
Ingress is an ARG. It is not an SLR or GPS.
Have you heard of Google Plus? Chris Messina had some thoughts about it.
Did you know that Google based employees bonuses on ā+ā success or failure?
Now that Google owns Nest and Dropcam, they will start to understand our physical networks as well as our social and digital connection.
Chai knows every electronic plugged in to your home.
Thomas expects Google to pick up Atomatic next to get even deeper into knowing you. George just wants it reset his check engine light.
George uses the Nest. Thomas uses the Leeo.
Houseplants are a tricky subject at Casa de la George. Which is why Thomas isn't going to mention this in the show notes.
Neither of us use a Wemo, but I Yahoo'd it so you can learn more.
Neither of us have an Amazon Alexa, but George really wants one.
George also wanted the XBox One to make him happy, but it didn't.
However, Cortana makes Thomas happy. And not because she is predicting football outcomes.
There is a great podcast that makes use of a quality sound board.
When you don't have a great sound board, a jar of Flarp will do.
FYI flarp conforms to the safety requirements of ASTM-F963.
George decided that ecamm, who is still not a sponsor, is worth exchanging money for value for. For.
Unix is special because you can RTFM:
man finger
man bash
man rsync e.g. dropbox
man less
George used to have a lot of anger in his heart for people who turn off our podcast early. Now he just knows that they are suffering their own fate.
George, the musician, can shittily play piano.
closing song: All About that Paste /via Remy Munasifi
I miss you. Be Good. Be Safe. Travel Well. Bye.
is that low fi podcasting? posting on soundcloud and linking to it manually instead of rss?
LOVE!
soooooo we listened to some of your pod cast. Good stuff. rumpus room..... a room used for noisy activities, such as parties or children's games. I think that you need a rasta accent. or at least eastern European lisp to compete in today's market. or maybe perhaps you hire just some German guy with long hair and an unhealthy affection for potato pancakes to run a sound board for you. Pay him with PBR and sour skittles. BEST INVESTMENT EVER! Oh, and a power metal ballad intro thing is a rad idea. kind of like ozzy cross creed cross third eye blind.... but not blind melon. cause that would be too much.
1: Culture Fit
All the shownotes that are fit to print:
This episode is not sponsored by ecamm Skype Recorder.
We're doing a talk at SXSW, called Conflict in the Startup Marriage.
The Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman is a book we are incorporating into our talk.
The Five Languages: Words of Affirmation Acts of Service Receiving Gifts (and biting them) Quality Time Physical Touch
"Way to go, us!" "p.s. There is often going to be nothing of value here."
Slack is still not a sponsor of this show. (Because they are too busy changing their terms of service.
Mark Zuckerberg calls all Facebook users [idiots].
I mean, it's not like Grand Juries can even do their jobs anyway.
George has been playing Ingress. But he is on the wrong team.
George has his business socks on.
Wherein George makes Thomas talk about Uber.
If Thomas took over Uber, he would get in front of it with actions, not just twitter platitudes.
AirBNB knows how to respond with actions, not just words when something goes wrong.
There is a responsibility for businesses to consider the broader impact of their success.
e.g. TripIt built in a way to offset all the carbon emissions inspired by massive usage of their product.
Thank you Jimmy Jacobson for listening to our podcast while riding your stationary bike.
I need to delete this podcast so that I can install the latest version of Dots.
George plays Candy Crush on the toilet, but he doesn't send out unwanted requests.
Harmontown is one of George's favorite podcasts. Which is generally recorded drunkly.
cover photo: tayej closing song: Shake the Earth /via Elephante
I miss you. Be Good. Be Safe. Travel Well. Bye.
It's kind of like two girls talking on a telephone, if those two girls were large hairy men, and instead of a phone it is Skype.
You had me at the "basement talk". I love basement talk.
0: Pilot - Entity Formation
This is probably episode 0 of George and Thomas talking about things. We need all of your feedbacks before we can record episode 1.
Without further adieu, your show notes:
Are there catacombs in most basements?
Is RumpusRoom even a thing?
How many Dolby's can you fit into a room?
Logitech is not one of our sponsors.
~10:53 George Leaves at this time.
Stuff you Should Know has a lot of episodes.
Thomas is working on Primeloop. George is the prime loop at WorkingOn.
George likes Sqwiggle: usesqwigglebox.net/io
Thomas likes Ingress (Not Egrets)
Of COURSE George knows what kek kek kek means.
(Is this interesting AT ALL??!!)
"There is a difference in calling someone an idiot to their face, and just plain hating them."
"All we need is love." ā Einstein ā or maybe Mark Twain
Slack is also not one of our sponsors.
George really wants to talk about the NomadList slack community. Thomas is kind of certain Mark Cicoria told him about it.
Gif vs Jif debate continues
However, Mailchimp IS the sponsor of a podcast called Serial, which is SWEEPING THE NATION.
Chris Sacca, not Michael Sacca, pitched Ira Glass' pants off.
Go buy one of those fancy $280 record player needle things.
