Feminine. Eccentric. Rock and Roll inspired, as the exhibition name refers to one of Queen’s hits’ I want to Break Free. Vasconcelos’ works are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I adore how she makes everyday objects so fun and playful that you forget they’re merely those objects you take for granted. Your hair dryer you use every morning. A couch you lay down on every night while watching Netflix. I want to know the deeper meanings behind her works but for now, I just want to enjoy her works as they are.

I have to say, I just adore the name of this exhibition. It’s one of those creative names that makes you wish you’d come up with them before.

How’s Your Weather?

Mine was bright and sunny, as soon as I saw the works of Martin Parr, of people enjoying their time under the Sun. I felt like taking a big plunge to the nearby swimming pool, just how Sharbova portrayed. Or go to a small town whose name I don’t even know how to pronounce of, and fall in love with the locals there. What a time to be young. Olivia Bee really has a knack of bringing these emotions.

But more accurately, I felt a bit cloudy with a sense of uncertainty. My vision had never been so blurry. It was summer, I knew for certain. But why am I seeing snow, Mizutani?

Now that I think about it, I felt rather gloomy. How do I even find myself in this weather? Marina Richter’s photography revealed such darkness, that I couldn’t help myself, but to feel dim. I found myself in the state of brooding. Of things. Of people I know. Of issues happening to the world. The future. Or that woman, as one of Jari Silomäki’s subjects. I hope she finds someone to keep her company on the 14th morning of her honeymoon.

But in the end, the soft blow of Ruskin’s words made me feel calm. Here, I’m quoting it. As a reminder to myself.

“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. ”

Index (Common Ground, Seoul)

One thing that amazes me about Korea has to be its graphic and packaging design scene. It’s neat, sleek, truly a definition of eye-candy. Good packaging designs are everywhere - it has become a standard, and that’s what I pretty much expect when visiting creative outlets around Seoul.

When I found this little gem near Konkuk University, I was beamed with pleasure. From the latest copy of Kinfolk, to translated and local works, the bookstore covers a great number of lifestyle related reads. I could spend hours just observing their pretty book covers. Not only that, the store is filled with aesthetically pleasing posters (as a part of ‘Useful Words’ exhibition), and an adorable, little space upstairs, in which you can enjoy beverages from its cafe. Few sips of its creamed tea latte, and my creative urge started kicking in.
