For today's fic, we see how the two men handle a disagreement surrounding what constitutes a fine gift.

Doflamingo held the wine bottle in his hand, palming its weight with slight displeasure wrapped up in a familiar scowl.

“What is this?”

“What does it look like? Wine. The best Merlot I could find. I asked the sommelier for his help this time.”

A scoff erupts from Doflamingo’s throat, still ever-so incredulous for a reason Crocodile was having a hard time pinning down. After all, it was Doflamingo himself who had suggested they start exchanging gifts on this day, the date that the man insisted was the first time the two had met. Several years back, Crocodile had thought it was three days later than the actual date, and never heard the end of it from Doffy. Since then, Doflamingo had never seemed quite pleased with whatever Sir Crocodile would bring to their exchange, year by year. 

“You know something, Crocodile? You really piss me off sometimes. So inconsiderate.”

“What the hell did I do wrong this time?”

“This is your gift?”

Doflamingo holds the bottle up next to his disappointed face. Exasperated, Crocodile replies:

“Yes? Is there a problem? I was told-”

“Where’s the note?”

Crocodile sputters.

“A note?”

Doflamingo sneers, with a pointedness in his response:

“No gift is complete without a note to the recipient. That’s the rules.”
