Zoe smiled as she looked at the baby “It’s so crazy, we’re responsible for this little life, I can’t believe it,” she said as she handed Cody the baby and looked at the sight before her, eyes tearing up as she grabbed her phone from the side of the bed and snapped some pictures of the two of them together. “She’s looking up at you like she just saw her entire world, I love it, daddy’s little girl,”  Zoe said as she laid her head on Cody’s shoulder. “She’s so sweet already, oh my god she gets all that from you, no doubt,” 

Once the little girl was brought to him, he was careful to keep his hands sturdy, supporting her head and letting her lat comfortably on his chest as she did on Zoe’s before. “Hi, my angel. Look at you, let me wrap you up so you’re nice and warm.” He cooed, pulling a blanket over her body, tucking her close into him. “Her little hands are so small, I didn’t think babies could be this small and still capture your entire heart, But Penelope just did that. She’s a little princess.” Cody slowly rocked her back and forth, as she made a cooed noise from her lungs. “I can’t take it, she’s amazing, babe.”

After the cord was clipped the midwife took the baby to get cleaned up and took care of the birth remnants so Zoe could get up. “Can you get me, my robe, baby? It’s just hanging right there,” she said pointing to the door as the midwife walked over to the couple again “She’s six pounds even, fifteen inches long and she has all ten fingers and toes, not mention the cutest little button nose anyone’s ever had,” Zoe laughed as the midwife held the baby “She looks so much like him right?” the woman asked, “I think she looks like the perfect fusion of the two of you, that hair is obviously her dad’s,” the midwife said smiling brightly. Zoe smiled as Cody brought her robe “Thank you, babe,” she said softly and put it on over her body trying it softly around her waist as the midwife walked with her to the bed as Zoe laid back on it and the midwife put the little girl on her chest again. “I can’t believe it Cody, oh my god,” Zoe said shifting the baby so she was in her arms “Daddy, do you want to hold your little princess?” Zoe asked

Nodding, Cody disappeared momentarily to grab the robe that was hanging on the corner of the door. Bringing it over to his wife, he draped it over her shoulders. “She’s perfect is what she is. All six pounds of complete cuteness. Look at those eyes.” He admired, his palm carefully brushing over the light hair on her head. “You think we really look alike? I think she’s the perfect blend. Nobody can deny she’s ours.” His smile grew at the mention of the midwife’s words, nodding at the fact. “It’s so crazy, isn’t it? This feels like a dream.” He replied, following back into the bedroom and resting on the vacant side of the bed, his eyes never leaving the image of both the girls. “I would love to hold her, I would be honoured.” He said with a nod, his lower lip sunk between his teeth.

Zoe took Cody’s hand, she didn’t want to do anything to harm him in any way so she tried not to grip too hard “Zoe, you’ve come so far, don’t give up on yourself now, you can do this I promise,” the woman spoke up rubbing her hand on Zoe’s arm as Zoe leaned her head against Cody as she pushed a little more after a few minutes having to take a few deep breaths and finally as she pushed again, she felt all the pressure leave her body and the midwife pulled the baby up placing the crying baby on Zoe’s chest as she suctioned the baby’s nose and mouth “Congratulations, mom and dad, she’s a healthy, baby girl,” the woman said as Zoe looked at the baby laying on her chest and tears ran down her cheeks “Cody, we’re parents, oh my god we made a little girl,” she said as the woman clamped the umbilical cord. “Would you like to cut the cord, dad?” she asked Cody.

The next few minutes went by in a blur and yet also like a strike of lightening all at the same time. All Cody could think about was wanting to take away the pain Zoe was going through. “Don’t give up, you’re almost through, baby. I know it sucks right now but I’m right here. I’m not leaving you.” He repeated, pressing his forehead to hers, gripping onto her hand she had tightened and before he knew it, the silence in the bathroom was now echoing with the cries of their baby. Tears stream-lined down the redhead’s face, his eyes now focused on the little girl brought up to Zoe’s chest. He placed a gentle hand to the baby’s back, feeling every cry she made while he rubbed at her back lightly. “We made a little girl, Zoe. She’s so precious. Hi, baby.” He cooed to the newborn before averting his attention to the midwife with a nod. “Yes, of course I would.” He agreed, taking ahold of the medical scissors and clipping the cord. “You did so good, momma. She’s our little girl. I can’t believe it.” Shock still running through him as he pressed his lips to the top of Zoe’s shoulder. “It’s out little Penelope.”

Zoe changed into the sports bra and wrapped the cloth around her bottom half “Be a good boy for daddy, baby boy,” she called out after he was lead out of the room. “I think it’s almost time, I feel like I need to push,” she said as the woman came from the bathroom “Let’s get you in the water, sweetie,” she said as Zoe held onto Cody “Oh my god who the fuck said I could do this,” she said holding her onto her bump. “Jesus,” she said as she gripped onto Cody, the tears running rapidly down her cheek. “This hurts so bad,” she said leaning her head on Cody as they walked to the tub, she stepped in and let the water run over her body. “Baby is crowning, are you ready to push, mom?” the midwife asked as Zoe looked at Cody “Yes as ready as I can be,” she said as she started to push “Why did I not go to the hospital?” she said feeling the tears run down her cheeks again.

“He’s always a good boy. I don’t think he would know what to do and would probably be a little overstimulated by the whole thing so I took him out. Now we can just focus on you and little one.” He nodded, following her into the tub, sitting by her side. His hands smoothed over the small of her back, pressing a soft kiss to her shoulder. “I know you can do this, baby. We’re so close to meeting our tiny miracle, take my hand.” He offered to her, bringing his free thumb up to wipe the tears that melted down her cheek. “I know it does, but just keep breathing, Zoe. Do you need me to come in and help you in the tub?” He asked her quietly, his gaze never leaving hers as he watched her, his heart aching at the scene in front of him. “It’s almost over, petal. You’re so strong, so I shouldn’t be surprised you’ve been able to do this all on your own.” He encouraged her, his damp thumb scrolling along her jaw.

Zoe smiled and the knock on the door started her “She’s here, I told her to let herself in, gave her the code because I don’t need you leaving me,” she chuckled as she “Asher Leon sounds perfect, now I feel a little less stressed out about labor,” the female said as she sat up slowly on the bed “Yes, a sports bra, please and one of my bikini bottom wraps so I don’t feel too exposed until it’s time to push this little one out,” Zoe said as she as heard the footsteps on their staircase which alarmed Drip making him jump to the bedroom door and bark for a few seconds. “It’s okay, buddy, she’s here to help mommy,” Zoe said as she greeted the midwife and smiled “Shall we check to see how dilated you are, mama?” the older woman asked as she put her gloves on and Zoe laid on the bed “You’re so close, you change and I’ll get the water run for the bath,” the woman said as she walked into the couple’s bathroom and Zoe heard the water running “Oh, shit,” she called out as she tried to hold herself up on the bedpost.

“Perfect timing,” he stated with a nod, giving her hnd a gentle squeeze before pressing them to his lips. Quickly greeting the midwife as he stood to his feet, he then made a path to the closet to find the outfit Zoe needed. Once after sifting through to find the pair, he emerged from the closet doors, laying the two pieces down on the edge of the bed. “Come here, baby. Let me help you change.” He offered, the sounds from Drip causing a laugh to escape his lips. “He’s such a little guard dog. He’s trying to make sure nobody gets passed him to you.” Leaning down, he coaxed the dog to meet him, as Cody ruffled his coat and gave him a gentle pat on the back. “Everything’s okay, little dude. Let’s get you some water you must be so thirsty.” He called, leading Drip out of the room and to the kitchen where his dog bowl laid. “I’ll come back for you when your little brother or sister is here, okay? You be good.” Finally making his way back to the room, all Cody could hear was the cry from his wife, his concern heightened. “Baby, I’m right here. It’s okay. You’re almost there. Do you think it’s almost time?” He asked her calmly, combing his fingers through her light blonde locks.

“You are so sympathetic, I love it, you are one of the sweetest human beings in the world,” Zoe said as she felt another contraction “They are getting closer together which makes me more and more nervous,” she said with a laugh as she breathed through it. “Could you imagine if we need our baby girl Penelope Fiona, that sounds so beautiful,” Zoe said as she heard her phone go off and looked at the text. “The midwife texted me and said she was going to be here in five minutes,” she said to Cody “For the names for boys I’ve always loved the name Leon or Asher,” she said with a smile as she looked into her husband’s eyes and felt her body relax “Can you help me get up to change so I don’t get my clothes wet in the water,”

“It’s okay, my angel. Just keep your focus on me. I’m right here. Put all your pain on me. Squeeze my hands as hard as you can if you have to.” He coached quietly, nodding as a smile crept its way onto his lips. “I can totally see our little girl with that name. Our little Penelope Fiona. Tiny Penny. She would be beautiful thanks to you.” He replied to his wife’s question, lifting himself up from the bed and pulled at the hem of his shirt. “And if he’s a boy I think Asher would be an awesome name. It’s strong, just lie he’ll be. How does Asher Leon sound if our little pumpkin is a boy?” The ginger inquired, pressing a chaste kiss to Zoe’s forehead. “Yes, babe I’ll be right back. What clothes do you want to change into? A sports bra?”

“I have to give you way too much credit, babe, you are the one who is keeping me together right now,” Zoe said as she sighed some relief feeling the coolness on her skin from the cool washcloth. “That’s why I think I didn’t want to find out, I wanted us to be surprised for one and either way to me it wouldn’t have mattered, I just wanted them to be healthy when they came popping out,” she said as she nodded “So now we have to come up with some names we both like, should we start with girl names?” she questioned as she took her husband’s hand and rubbed her thumb along the top smiling at him.

“I hate to see you in so much pain, baby. If I can’t be strong enough for us both then what do we have?” Cody responded with a chuckle. After a few minutes of communication with the midwife she was presently on her way. Setting his phone down on the counter, he stretched himself out on the bed to curl up close to Zoe. “Not many people get to be surprised in this way so I’m thankful we have this opportunity to be surprised by our tiny buggy here.” His lips melted into her shoulder, as he pondered is answer to her question. “I don’t know, love. I’ve always liked the name Penelope, from my first cow. You think I’m joking but I really do love it. Jessamine I’ve always thought was pretty. We have a ton of nicknames we could come up with. Or Fiona. I just imagine if our baby has red hair she was be a fierce and spunky attitude like Fiona. What are some of your ideas, baby?” He asked, hiseyes never failing to keep the gaze to hers.

“I don’t know how you do it but you do it well, you always make me feel like I can conquer anything,” Zoe said as she nodded, she rubbed her bump and laid on her side as another contraction passed through and she smiled when she saw Cody again. “I should probably change into some kind of swim set or a sports bra or something,” Zoe said with a laugh as she reached her hand over taking his hand in hers. “What do you think we’re gonna have? A little boy or a little girl,” she asked curiously “Oh lord, I just realized we have to name a human being, do we have names picked out?” Zoe chuckled as she shook her head. “I’m having a mom fail already,” 

“You give me way too much credit, babe. You need a hype man and I’m here to be that for you no matter what. We also need all the good vibes because I know you’re so capable of doing this.” Reaching over he grabbed the damp washcloth and dabbed it over her porcelain skin from her neck down to her arms and back again. A soft chuckle surpassed his lips as he shook his head. “I don’t think it matters to me either way as long as they’re happy and healthy. But I would love a little you to carry around. They already have me wrapped around their tiny fingers, it would just make sense that way. But a little boy would be just as welcomed. Somehow to carry on the Orlove name, right? What are some names you like, love? Let’s focus on some. Here, take my hand.” He offered, spread his thumb over her knuckles before bringing them up to his lips.

“I don’t think so yet, I still feel okay,” Zoe said as she took a few shallow breaths and rested her head back down “Do you think doing a water birth is too much for us? Should we go to the hospital?” she asked as she leaned her head up and pressed a kiss softly to his jawline and wrapped her arms around Cody again as she felt another contraction strike through her body like a shock of lightning. She took a few fast breaths and rubbed her husband’s back “Honestly tell me what you think, do you think we should go to the hospital or do you think I’ll do okay at home?” she said softly.

Threading his fingers through her hair, Cody pressed a soft kiss to her temple. “If you’re asking me, I think you’re a strong ass woman who can do anything you think you can do. So if a waterbirth is what you want to do I’ll call the midwife right now. I’d rather you feel safe and comfortable.” Snaking his arms around her middle, he rubbed his hands in deep circles over her lower back. “It’s alright, angel. You’re doing amazing. I’ll go get you some water and a washcloth. I love you. I’ll be right back, okay?” He assured, slowly untangling himself from her and made quick of his time as he rushed to dampen a washcloth and pulled a handful of towels from the bathroom cabinet. Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he settled all of the items on the bedside table before sitting facing his wife again.
