**gently grabs your face** Listen to me.
When things are hard, move toward joy. Move toward those who light you up, like little fireflies your heart. Play the music you love. Take a chance. Make plans with people you adore—old and new. Put joy on the calendar like a goddamn holiday. (There is something to be said for making plans. I love plans. I…am a dork.)
When things are hard—and god knows, the news is full of terrible—flirt with someone you care about. Make some art about it—about everything. Bake something or cook something and if there’s too much, bring it to your neighbor. Pet a dog. Pet a cat. Find a reason to be silly. Be silly.
The brightest parts of my life, lately, have been unexpected magick. It’s there if you look, I promise. And, honestly, sometimes even if you’re not looking and you just run headlong into it. It's the connection and the love that will help see us through the hard stuff. It's the affection that feeds our strength.

nonsexual dominance is so fucking hot for no reason. grab my hand when we’re in crowds, help me pick my outfit/hairstyle/makeup look for the day, lead me around, pull me in close just because you want me there, pat my head, grab my chin and push it up so i look into your eyes. i live for that shit.
So fucking hot.
the objectively correct answer to “if you could live in any fictional universe, which would you choose?” remains Fraggle Rock, btw
[ @7-cities-journalist says: Can you say why? ]
This is assuming I get to live as a Fraggle/Craggle/Merggle/other creature in Fraggle Rock, though I will say if all I managed to accomplish was the world being just as it is, but Fraggle Rock exists now, that would also be a marked improvement.
Anyway, as follows
Live in a glittery glowing cave. Lots of jewel tones. Peak aesthetic all around.
Fraggles canonically have a 30 minute work week. Your job is whatever job you want to do.
As far as I can tell, Fraggles don't have a concept of money, or any currency to speak of.
Fraggles spend their time dancing, singing, playing, engaging in hobbies, and talking about their feelings
It's a musical universe. I want to sing a perfect song for the situation whenever the mood strikes. I want to be a part of big musical numbers.
The only magic in Fraggle Rock is good, or at the very least Less Scary Than This Reality. Magical things might be frightening or mischievous, but while death and real violence exist (gently implied, very off screen) in Fraggle Rock, the only things that are ever supernaturally enhanced are either unmitigated positives (love, fun, connection) or specifically there to trigger insight in those interacting with it (basically like the magic that shows Scrooge the errors of his ways in A Christmas Carol). This is a big one to me, because most fictional universes I love are also ones you could not pay me to live in. In Fraggle Rock if I encounter something terrifying, it probably just means I need to sing about my feelings.
They have like two holidays a week and they all look so fun. They have ridiculous traditions and games.
You get to pick how often you have a birthday and when it is. You just wake up and go "it feels like my birthday" and then if you say it's your birthday it is and everyone will celebrate you. Can you imagine a transphobic Fraggle? I bet some of them change their gender like hats.
If you (like me) are not an outgoing person and that all sounds like a lot, that's okay too! Fraggles have room for introverts. Boober sits a lot of things out because he has a different idea of fun. Or maybe you want to be a Craggle! They sleep the majority of the day, and can manifest a shared dream reality where they can do whatever they want.
You can still make pop culture references because the Fraggles usually either have their own version or make them on accident all the time anyway, so less adjusting than is usual for such a divergent universe. Fraggles are VERY good at just rolling with whatever weird thing someone just said without asking clarifying questions. Especially when it's funny.
The fraggle universe is one where the Rule of Funny, Rule of Cool, and Rule of Heartwarming all apply in full force, making it the best of all possible worlds.
Luxury space communism but with caves instead of space and you can be any color you want and do anything you want and sometimes celebrities show up like here's Daveed Diggs he's a recurring character named Jambolin (the big one not the cool wiggle man)
I forgot to mention that the doozers build these amazing towers all over and you could either BE a doozer and get to make those buildings or you get to DESTROY and EAT them as much as you like and the doozers love it. God. Can you imagine. Perfect possible life.
I respect this, but I’d like to nominate The Emerald City from The Wizard Of Oz.
1. They don’t work. At all. Quote: “we get up at noon and start to work at one, take an hour for lunch and then at two we’re done.” The workweek is literally just an hourlong lunch.
2. They also seem to have no concept of money or commerce. Consider that Dorothy and friends get complete makeovers and not a single one of them has any money. Nobody chases them down for payment, including their cab driver.
3. The fact that 1 and 2 are both true suggests you kinda just get to do what you want.
4) ART. DECO. EVERYTHING. LOOK.
(A couple of these are painted recreations for stage plays, but I can literally tell you where in the movie they come from, so…)
5) you will never have to worry about what to wear again. It’s all green. Everything you own matches.
I love and respect you but are you kidding the scene where the scarecrow has to fight off the crows is one of the scariest things I’ve ever read and the scene from the movie with the sleepy snow in the flower field is also terrifying. like EITHER there are actively malicious witches and corrupt government OR there are even more sinister forces at play oppressing the witches and either way it sounds bad.
Like even if you stick to the Emerald city, do I have to wear green? Do I have to wear the glasses that make everything look green? The guy in charge would send a little girl to her presumed death rather than admit to being a fraud (though if I recall in the books he gets a better replacement after). Just doesn’t seem the best.
Like Return to Oz is a movie I adore but that doesn’t mean it didn’t also give me nightmares, like Oz is PEAK “no thank you” fictional universe. Magic seems incredibly dangerous there. I do not want to get turned to tin or something. Eeeek.
@prismatic-bell I will give you that it’s got a GREAT aesthetic vibe, tho.
Don’t forget after he leaves, he puts Dorothy’s crew in charge. Things are about to improve A LOT.
@triskeleaficionado
adore is such a soft word...
I adore you. I adore the way your eyes light up when you're excited. I adore everything about you. I look upon you in adoration. I adore your affection and what it does to me. I adore you
so yeah, anyways...adore
