1978 (approximately) Saab 99L at Fuelfed Coffee and Classics in Winnetka, Illinois.

Saab’s marketing liked to use the fact that the company’s aerospace division produced fighter jets for many countries’ air forces. Their cars often looked different than other cars on the road.  The designs featured unique shapes and lines that when looked at as a whole, somehow formed attractive cars.  That unique style earned Saab many loyal fans that still mourn the recent end of the brand.  With the extreme boxiness of Volvos and Saab’s interesting proportions, Sweden’s car manufacturers were developing a style of their own, much like the civilized British cars, the avant-garde French cars, the pretty Italians, and the larger than life Americans.

Although the Saab car company is no more, it looks like the Saab national defense and aerospace company will continue to operate for the foreseeable future.  They probably won’t build cars ever again.
