this might be a bit of a stretch, but i saw the fat-sucking monsters as being like sam and dean's love for each other. in moderation, it was healthy and a positive thing. but it turned destructive when it got out of control. so Alonso was like their codependency and Mariza was how their relationship /should/ be (healthy and constructive love vs. unhealthy and destructive codependency).
