     “I thought so too, but I wasn’t going to question it.” Hearing how the other found the fossils himself, he couldn’t help but chuckle a bit. “Sounds like I rubbed off on you a bit~. And yes, definitely. They won’t be as confused being revived by one person and then passed on to someone else.”

Siebold chuckled a bit. “Maybe just a little. Took me a bit to find them but it was worth it. The scientists there helped me recognize which ones I had for you.” He smiled and leaned into Grant after returning the Feebas to her ball. “When you want to revive them I’ll go with you if you want.”

     Giving a nod, he moved and grabbed a notepad and pen from a drawer. Staying standing, he leaned against the counter as he wrote. It seemed a lot easier for him to write it, this was a good idea. ‘My mother left my father when I was seven. He blamed me for it and ended up drinking. But, he also took to,’ He paused in his writing a moment here before giving a sigh and finishing. ‘beating me, more than anything.’ Setting the pen down, he slid the pad towards the Elite.

Siebold watched him move away then write. He waited patiently until the notepad was pushed toward him. The Elite stepped forward and picked up the pad. He read it slowly once and blinked before going a second time. Anger filled him. Oh this man was going to have hell to pay if Siebold ever met him. He set the paper down and pulled Grant into a tight hug. “I’m so, so sorry...”

     A soft chuckle left him at the other’s reaction to the Water type. “I knew you’d love her. I actually got lucky catching her, I hadn’t even been looking and was just out swimming and ended up bumping into her.” Certainly was a nice surprise though. And seeing how happy the other was with her, he knew it’d been a good idea to catch the little thing.

“That is some luck you have.” He said with a chuckle. “I, on the other hand, went out and collected those fossils. I thought you might want to revive them yourself, though. Gives you a better connection with them.” At least he thought so. Maybe Grant did too.

     Grant gave a smile as he gave the other his present. It was a smaller box than the one given to him, but the Gym Leader knew the blonde would still love it. “Merry Christmas~.” He replied, moving the box onto his lap as he opened it. Definitely had weight going on, whatever it was. Picking up one of the tissue wrapped gifts, he blinked as he found a Claw fossil. Checking the others, a smile soon came to his face as he carefully set the box aside and pulled the Elite into his arms and pressed multiple kisses to his cheek. “Thank you!”

He held the small box in his hands as he watched Grant unwrap the fossils. Siebold smiled when he saw Grant’s then chuckled as he was pulled into him. “You’re welcome.” He was a bit embarrassed from the many kisses but could handle it. The Elite opened the box and lifted out the Dive Ball inside. He knew there was more to it considering how easy these were to buy. Siebold let the ball open in his hand and blinked when he saw the Feebas. Well the shiny Feebas. “Oh my... She’s beautiful, Grant, thank you!” He said, turning to kiss his cheek.

Siebold set the wrapped box on the couch next to Grant. “Here, this is for you.” It was a good sized box as it held four tissue wrapped fossils inside.He’d gone out and found each of them on his own. The Elite sat on the other side of the present. “Merry Christmas.~”

     “I…” He swallowed a bit. “It’s, complicated. I just, can’t find the words to talk about it so easily.” The Gym leader did want to explain at this point, but part of him was still holding it back. Blinking a bit, something occurred to him. “I could try writing it down instead… I’ve never tried that before.” It was worth a shot, after all it wasn’t like it could hurt to try.

Siebold seemed disappointed. He just wanted to avoid the problem again. When Grant said he could write instead of talk the Elite perked back up and gave a nod. “Whatever you’re comfortable with. I really just want to avoid this again...” He hoped that put some ease onto Grant’s mind.

     “No, it’s not your fault, really, I….” He trailed off, slowly regaining control of his breathing again. Part of him said he should finally tell the other about his childhood, but he really wasn’t sure how to say it. The words wouldn’t come easy to him either. But, it was getting to be that time where he really should explain everything…

He still felt a bit bad for scaring Grant. The Water Elite had this strong need to ask what made him react like that. He really didn’t want it to happen again. “Grant, did... did something happen to you? You’ve never reacted like that before.” The words came out before he could reign them in. Siebold wasn’t even sure the Gym Leader would talk about it.

     He couldn’t stop the flinch that left him, even though it was a gentle one. It took a moment, but he eventually calmed himself and lowered his arms. “I, I know. I’m sorry, I know.” He swallowed a bit as he panted slightly. This was Siebold, not his father. Grant was a little mad at himself for reacting like he did now. He knew the blonde would never hurt him like that.

The flinch didn’t make Siebold pull away. It only concerned him more. He watched carefully as Grant lowered his arms. The blonde shook his head at the apology. “No, you’re fine... I’m sorry.” He really needed to handle arguments at home differently than how he did so at work. “I really didn’t mean to scare you like that...”

     The Gym Leader froze as soon as he heard the glass break against the floor. No, it hadn’t been thrown at him, but the sound was enough to trigger memories he’d so far succeeded in suppressing. It was only a split second later his arms flew up to cover his face and head, purely out of instinct. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Fear and panic were clear in his tone.

Just like that his anger seemed to die. He hadn’t seen Grant react to his anger like this before. Siebold was confused and very concerned. Did he really think the Elite would hurt him? Slowly, he stepped forward and gently touched the Gym Leader’s arm. “Grant...? I’m not going to hurt you...” That’s what this looked like to him. A defensive move and with how quickly it was used... It can’t have been good.

     Waking up, the man coughed as he sat up a bit, taking note of the sand beneath him. Still a little dazed, he blinked as he looked around. Memories of what had happened soon filled his mind and he put a hand over his mouth. After taking a few deep breaths to calm himself, he started to stand when he spotted the blonde. A startled noise left him as he ended up falling right back down in the sand. Unable to find his words, he merely ended up staring in awe of the Merman.

The white scaled mer was sitting just a few feet away, the sea water touching his tail every few seconds. He was watching the wrecked ship continue to sink when he heard the human stir and looked over at him. He sat quietly, leaning back on his hands so they were slightly buried in the sand, as the other seemed to remember what had happened. A soft chuckle left the blonde when the reaction was given. “You thought my kind a myth I take it.”

     There was a pause before he responded, “…. Maybe…”

And the smile was gone just like that. “That means you haven’t...”

     Chuckling quietly, he leaned over and pressed a kiss to the other’s forehead.

He smiled softly at the kiss. “Oh, have you eaten yet?”
