The "Life Is Strange" TV series at Amazon Prime Video has added five new cast members, Variety has learned exclusively.
Alright, so we now have the full main cast of Life is Strange. Let's talk about it!
Billy Barratt is best known for the role of Andy in the A24 horror movie Bring Her Back. I feel pretty good about this because he's shown he can lead a film and act in a challenging genre like horror. I'm sure he has the skillset to play someone like Nathan.
Emily Carey (they/them) will play Victoria. They've been in House of the Dragon, like Tom Cullen (Jefferson) and was young Diana in Wonder Woman (2017). They're not even a stranger to games and game adaptations, since they played young Lara Croft in Tomb Raider (also produced by Square Enix) and did voice work in Xenoblade Chronicles and 3 and Final Fantasy Tactics (yet another Square Enix property).
Esther McGregor is Rachel Amber, and her most recent role was Mirren in We Were Liars, a main role. She's also bisexual, so again, I'm really loving all the queer rep in the cast and crew!
Mia Isaac will play Kate, and she's been in a few shows and films, most recently American Horror Stories, a show that Raúl Castillo (David Madsen) has also been in.
Finally, Faly Rakotohavana will play Warren Graham. He was a child actor on Nickelodeon and was set to play Hugo in the 2026 reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer before it was cancelled, so I hope this show will be good for his career!
I'm really happy that we got diverse casting in Faly and Mia, but I'm bracing myself for the inevitable racist backlash (PLEASE don't be weird to the actors, holy shit). In my brain dump for the show, I predicted that Kate would likely die to raise the stakes for the story but... man, that is gonna suck to watch happen to a young, Black victim of bullying (Mia is mixed Black/Chinese irl), especially since Victoria and Nathan are white. I hope audiences can find it in them to remain sympathetic to Kate even if she's not white and be civil towards all the young actors.
I think this will be the last casting update until filming starts on June 29th, unless they want to announce all the tertiary roles like Samuel, Principal Wells, Stella, Brooke, etc. Or if we're lucky, we'll get an announcement about the original voice actors returning in some capacity. Hannah Telle's already said she'd love to be a part of it!
