Listening to the other male’s story, Tony couldn’t help the laugh that escaped. “You really got stood up?” Leaning back, he looked at the other male’s body, trying to figure out why. “You’re not ugly, are you shorter than you look? Maybe they walked in, saw you and saw you were shorter than expected, and left.” Tony gave himself a chuckle at his own argument, cheers-ing with the other male before continuing his thoughts. “No, no silly bands or sex rings, I work at a auto shop. I’m thinking of opening one, one town over though so I don’t fuck up Frank’s set up here – He hired me, you know? I’ve got some loyalty, but I’m nearly done with business school so I was looking.” Taking a swig from his beer, he looked back to Alec once finished and exhaled. “So, what were you looking for in your perfect mate that ended up not being so perfect?”

“punctuality?” alec jokes, shaking his head in disappointment. “i dunno, i wasn’t really going for ‘perfect mate’ with this girl - friend of mine set us up ‘cause apparently i don’t put myself out there enough. yet, here i am throwing caution to the wind and still getting rejected ... hence why i try not to ‘put myself out there’.” he smiles, then, cocking his head at his counterpart. “you don’t happen to know any desperate enough singles at that business school of yours, do you?”

Jake had spent the entire morning fixing up a car’s bumper that had been damaged in a simple fender bender. He was exhausted and it was his lunch time. He headed over to one of the coffee shops nearby and waited in line to grab a coffee. As he was headed to a table near the window, someone else had been going for as well. He sighed and headed over to one of the stools at the counter and took a seat next to another person. Letting out a breath, he pinched his nose. “What a day.” he muttered.

“you’re tellin’ me,” alec grumbles, not even bothering to look up from where his head is lain across the countertop, sunglasses perched over red, sleepy eyes. between his papers slewed in messy makeshift piles and the fourteen open tabs on his laptop, it would appear alec was deeply involved in a major project, but the last three nights of ‘steady’ drinking had stunted his productivity for probably ... the next forty years. “i haven’t been this hungover since graduation. could you do a dude a solid and pass me my muffin?” he gestures vaguely towards where he thinks he remembers he had pushed the plate, hoping this stranger could help - despite the judgement he knows he deserves.

“hey, who said anything about blacking out? i’m saving that for the end of the school year and i’ve got my fingers crossed that i’ll just forget what a shit show it’s been,” luna said, her shoulders rising and falling in an exasperated shrug. “but if you’re trying to avoid the post-blackout hangover, just pound some pedialyte and take a motrin before you go out.” she was mildly embarrassed to know that information, but it was her lifesaver when it came to hangovers. oxford was good for more than just acedemics, after all. “gibson’s sounds perfect.”

     “aw come on, i can’t imagine the little rugrats are too traumatic for you of all people to handle.” he makes a face at her suggestion, scrunching his nose in distaste. “honestly? i think i’ve hit the point that my body is just .. rejecting anything that tries to help reduce the pain or the shame of one of those nights. you should’ve seen me three days after saint patrick’s day, because i’m pretty sure that’s how long it took me reintegrate into society.” he stands, then, snatching his keys and wallet from the edge of the couch and nods towards the door. “c’mon. let’s go before all those rotten teenagers with fake IDs swarm and i have to hear ‘bodak yellow’ repeat seven hundred times on the juke.”

Raking his fingers through his dark brown locks, Tony let out an exasperated sigh. “The one fucking time,” he mumbled, twirling the beer bottle in his hand along the countertop of the bar area. Turning to the person next to him, he held up his bottle of a cheers moment in sarcasm. “This is why I don’t go out too much,” he admitted, although the stranger didn’t really know what he was talking about. “Don’t worry, I didn’t get stood up, I don’t date. I was supposed to meet a possible business partner here but apparently he’s not all that serious. What’re you doing in this lovely bar on this wonderful night?” Clearly, the male was already a few in.

      “can’t say i’m really one for dating myself, but uh .. in this case-” he waves to the row of empty stools beside himself, “i - on the other hand - did get stood up. so i’m drinking to what was probably a blessing in disguise.” alec raises his own beer in solidarity before taking a sip and setting in back down on the coaster. “so what kind of business are you in that you meet strange partners at dive bars? drugs? is it a sex ring? silly bands?”

“i was thinking we’d start light with a shot of fireball. or two, depending on how you’re feeling after the first one.” sullivan responds, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “unless you don’t think you can even handle a first, then …”

“heeey now,” alec scoffs goodnaturedly, “i can hold my own the first four or five at least.”  he’s confident until he’s hit with a flashback to his fraternity’s formal sophomore year, but does his best to blackout that blackout. “you said you’re buying,” he says after a shake of his head, waving his hand for the bartender’s attention, “order up.”

“flowers and chocolates, but tomato tomahto.” sullivan shrugs his shoulders. “or ridiculously cool, am i right?” he lifts a hand for a high five but drops his hand at his side fairly quickly. “i was actually just about to move on to shots. do you think you can keep up with me?”

“keep up with you? probably not,” alec admits with a laugh, “but i can for damn sure try. what’s up first?”

       “ja mutter… ja… ja… ich weiß ich sagte das… ja… du weißt, ich bin sehr beschäftigt bei der arbeit, ich muss wirklich gehen… “ (yes, mother, yes, yes, i know, i said that, yes, you know, i’m very busy at work, I really have to go.) a small little lie but before her mother could say another word she quickly hung up the phone and tossed it into her purse with a sigh. “parents…” she groaned as she lit her cigarette and leaned her back against the front of the building watching as people flowed in and out of the bar.

“what the hell was that .. australian?” alec chides from his spot across the porch. he was already a few glasses in when he decided to take a smoke break of his own. she had caught his eye when she walked out a few minutes after he did - and honestly, if he wasn’t already a little buzzed he wouldn’t have the nerve to speak to her.

“right, so it’s mother’s day tomorrow and i thought i’d surprise my mom with some flowers and chocolates. obviously i designed my own bouquet and, uh –” sullivan takes a swig of his beer, relaxes further against the wall. “– and picked out the best chocolates. you know, ‘cause my mom deserves the best. so, i go to checkout and i put in my card info and it goes through. then i go to check my bank account to see if the purchase went through and there’s two hundred dollars left. i had thousands saved. anyway, i call up my bank and they tell me that the flower company charged twenty thousand to my account instead of two hundred dollars. i guess a few zeros got moved around and –” he stops to finish off his beer. “apparently, one of the salesmen had been overcharging people for weeks. i’m pretty sure they fired him.” shrugging his shoulders, he places his hand on the other’s shoulder. “moral of the story, though, is that i’m not actually poor and that i’ll be buying you a drink tonight.”

“i mean if you’re throwing around a couple hundred bucks for some dead plants and desserts ...” alec shakes his head in disbelief, “i dunno if i’m supposed to find you ridiculously generous or ridiculously irresponsible.” he does love a free drink, though,  and knows better than to turn an offer down. “i’ll have whatever you’re having.”

“Nah, I’m talkin’ to the fucking wind. Who else?” he shot the bartender a confusedly oblivious glance before looking back at the man expectedly. “You calling me poor? Low blow my friend, low blow.” he shook his head disappointedly, returning his attention to the bar tender. “Hit us with a double appletini.”

alec makes a face that’s equal parts confused and apologetic. “i just .. that was more of a comment on the uh, price of the drinks here,” he tries to save himself, but something tells him this guy doesn’t really give a shit. “but thank you. genuinely. are you, uh, celebrating something?”

he was on his break at the bar, he usually spent about an hour on break since he owned the place and spent as much time as possible with his babies. “it was heart breaking, truly heart breaking…i mean it had worked for monica and chandler. why couldn’t it work for joey and rachel? i just feel like they were better together than ross and rachel, but i can never say that to another person, stella because the ross and rachel fans go crazy,” declan said to his six month old daughter then turned to her twin brother to finish. “it just makes so much more sense. ross and rachel were so problematic for each other. and-AND! joey was better with emma than ross was and that’s a fact. maybe this gets to me so much because i’m always the joey and never the ross and that my friend is truly something deep,” declan said his irish accent strong as he nodded his head and looked between the two kids sitting in the stroller together in front of me. “you guys don’t look impressed.”

     “probably because even as infants, they recognize Seinfeld as the superior show.” alec interjects from his place at the table beside the buggy. “speaking as a professional, though, i’m pretty sure Barney is the more appropriate analogy: you’re the .. the Riff of Barney. not as cute as Baby Bop, not as regular as BJ ... you’re the leftover. the new guy that doesn’t last.” he peers into the stroller, eyeing the twins for a reaction. “you dig?”

as if someone hit the rewind button, luna’s expression shifted back into one of excitement at how easy it was to change his mind. “well for one, i want to get drunk,” she said, as if it was completely obvious. “and for another, i want to have fun. so anything where getting drunk and having fun intersect, i would very much like to do that.”

         “....alright,” alec sighs finally, flipping the manila folder closed. “we can get drinks, but .. i’m not blacking out or anything. i’m getting a little old for that.” since his birthday a few months ago had officially put him on the losing side of twenty-five, alec had grown a little insecure about both his age and the amount of time it took him to get over a hangover these days. unfortunately, this had turned him into a ‘fun police’ of sorts, but he really did mean well. “you want to go to gibson’s? or somewhere else?”

the excitement on luna’s face slowly faded as she listened to alec’s words. “okay, well bowling wasn’t exactly what i was thinking of,” she said, nodding slowly. “but c'mon, you have the whole weekend to finish it. what’s one night?” she asked, her brows raising in hope. “i’ll even buy your pizza for you for the next two nights if you come out with me tonight.”

“i dunno, moon,” he hesitates, scratching at the nape of his neck, but between the disappointment on her face and his total disinterest in paperwork, it honestly wouldn’t take him much more convincing. “what exactly kinda ‘going out’ are we talking, here?”

   Social media was, in Joey’s not-so-humble opinion, the greatest way to procrastinate writing a routine. Whilst the brunette usually used their comedy as a form of therapy ( ‘It’s free and I sometimes get a drink out of it, hell, sometimes I even get PAID for it’ ) that didn’t stop writing sessions from being tedious and insufferable, just like sometimes it didn’t stop social media from getting boring and overwhelming “ This is boring, I’m bored “ the comedian blabbered, leaving aside their phone and turning around to face the nearest person with a wicked grin plastered on their face and a raised brow as they talked making them look almost cartoonish. ” You, over there with the pretty face. Truth or dare or two truths, one lie? You decide if you go first. If you agree I’ll get you a cupcake and I will make sure to never call you a chicken “ they challenged, teasingly.

      alec’s gaze flickers from the open case file on his coffee table to luna’s eager expression, and the guilt settles in. “if by going out you mean .. going out front to meet the pizza delivery guy, then yes - definitely up for that.” he motions towards pile of papers in front of him apologetically. “if this final report wasn’t due monday, i swear i’d .. go bowl or something with you.”

you’d think he would have some sort of goddamn decency. but, no. tucked into the palm of his hand a pretty package of psychedelics. nature’s gift to mankind, he’d tell you. that fickle bitch did something right. “stuff these down your pants, quick. ain’t losin’ shit to no cop.” he doesn’t ask. quite the opposite, actually. his hand slipping underneath their waistband, the knuckles grazing hip bone. he leaves the package behind, just a lump in the fabric.

      alec shouldn’t even be surprised by this point - gaby’s shenanigans are unbelievable on a good day - but he still can’t control the hiss that escapes his clenched teeth as gab’s package, nay, DRUGS secures itself against his groin. “are you freaking ... how many times do we have to go over this,” his hand clutches at the slight bulge its left, protecting it both from view and from sliding down his khakis,  “i work FOR the cops. i’m a terrible candidate to be your ... your .. drug mule!”
