#the first way I ever described Ukyo in a fic (unposted because warmups are for bullshit) was “this sunshine-clad twink with a bow”#that was with Gen as the focus character shortly after meeting him for the first time. Tbh I stand by it#honestly Gen's perception of Ukyo back between when they must have first met (which idk if that would be before Gen found the village#or after he returned to the Tsukasa Empire—depends on a lot about how you interpret that sequence of events)#is a subject of fascination for me. Cause like. All we really know is that Gen's impression was such that he thought to be cautious of him#upon return—that and the fact that Gen at some point learned that Ukyo was a former sonar operator on a submarine#basically Gen had two facts (sonar operator & insanely good hearing) and any other impressions he had either proved wrong#(like how it later sounds like he expected Ukyo to have called for backup) or were at least severely unsolidified#comparing this to how accurate a read he can get on some other characters in similarly short timeframes (while imperfect comparisons#due to the fact that we can't really know how much time he spent around any given person off-screen) that's really not a lot to know#assume that they at least held a conversation rather than Gen having gotten his scarce info secondhand and to me that becomes#a very solid foundation for my headcanon that Ukyo is one of the very few people Gen just struggles to get a good read on most of the time#I don't know how this turned into a rant.
