Man, how long has it been since I saw a romantic comedy with two equally but differently obnoxious leads? A Dog and a Plane is really playing to TayNew's strengths as a pair by making them both the kind of guy that would go full antagonistic flirt mode with a hot stranger who got in their way. I'm having so much fun already.
Beyond loving the characterization we're getting from Tay and New, I am very here for Mond playing a man who appears to not yet know he's bisexual, and for how he's about to find out.
Damn. Now, I can't unsee it 🤣🤣🤣
Now, that's just slander 😂😂😂
Wait...so all of that is just foreplay??? Damn.
I appreciate that Pete has these kiddos that are kind of ride or die for him. One wonders how he adopted this gaggle of young'uns, but one is glad he's not been as alone as he may have felt. He said "guess what? Turns out I've got a demon sealed inside of me, and I need your help to wake it up?" And they said yeah, okay. And then after seeing him get literally momentarily TAKEN OVER BY THE DEMON they didn't try to say "nah, we can't help" they just brought protective gear this time around. And in between, when they were very well aware there was an actual genuine real-life demon inside Pete that could maybe take over the guy because at this point he hadn't gotten it under control, they were still down to hang out.
Imma need y’all to start helping me keep track of shirt colors and color references in Wu, cuz color-tracking is not normally my thing. But in the scene where Niran tells Pete about the exploited workers created a Yao with the electric plant, Pete is wearing a red shirt (reason “in the skateboard tradition” lol) and Niran is wearing a Red Sox shirt. And yes, @respectthepetty has done a great job teaching all of us about red rascals (I see you Pete) and red as passion (I see you Niran AND Pete), and red as love (I see you NiranPete truthers). Many of us know red for luck and marriage in Chinese culture, as well as one of Chinams national colors, including the color of its communist movements (and I’m keeping track of the Chinese references, too as you’ll find it in a meta I’m working on). However, there’s also a political context to the color red specifically in Thailand.
The “red shirts” were a populist political movement in the country originally associated with the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship, which formed to protest the coup d’état against Prime Minister Thaksin (an extremely complicated political figure)—I hope your seeing some parallels to the series here already. The movement is usually seen as including leftists and academics as well as Thaksin’s rural and working-class supporters. One of their main oppositions at the time were the “yellow shirts,” aka The People’s Alliance for Democracy, a monarchist movement that opposed Prime Minister Thaksin and facilitated the coup d’état against him. And these two political groups were hashing it out specifically about issues of economic inequality, workers rights, and government coups—all the things Wu is bringing into the plot.
These issues remain relevant in Thailand today! Former PM Thaksin returned to the country and served his prison time and his daughter was forced to resign from the position of Prime Minister this year, while the Move Forward Party, the political party that inherited much of the “red shirts” politics, was ordered by the Thai courts to disband in 2024, and reformed as The People’s Party. In fact, it originally formed as the Future Forward Party in 2018 (this was the party director P’Golf Tanwarin served in Parliament and introduced the first marriage equality bill under) and was court-ordered to disband in 2020. The “red shirts” are only in the past by name, and Wu seems to be bringing their politics and shirt colors into the present.
Honestly, I had my own knee jerk reaction to Phuwin’s interview statement about gmmtv’s philosophy to treat these shows as normal love stories instead of a queer or lgbt story. But the bad faith takes I’ve been seeing on multiple platforms are next level. What I think he meant: treating queer people as a separate species of human and queer romance as a different genre than general romance is discriminatory. To go to those discriminatory or separatist mindsets as a writer or creative will limit one’s capability to invest the full humanity into queer characters. That’s not assimilationist—it’s anti-discriminatory. People, though, are so eager to jump onto a declensionist historical narrative of queerness in BL and especially GMMTV. You can be protective of queer narratives without jumping on the paranoia train.
Let’s look at some facts. directors/producers Aof, X, Jojo, Fon, New, Ninew, Waa, Koo, Film, and Ark are all out (and I’m just saying that I’ve never been able to find info about P’Tha’s family life lol). In the past year we’ve had Memoir of Rati depicting resistance to historical homophobia, a bunch of gay theater kids in OFDO trying to put on a BL play, the trials of a pair of gay elementary teachers being affectionate in public on Love You Teacher, a full exploration of every legal right and responsibility involved in marriage equality through My Romance Scammer, multiple series depicting the corporate limits of queer support, and I haven’t even mentioned a Jojo show yet! Then this next year, they’ve got more GLs than ever before to add to all this discourse.
To act like queer experiences and rights are not baked into the very marrow of these shows and that the creatives and executives aren’t working hard to make that happen means you are ignoring so much clear evidence to the contrary. GMMTV is making very queer work, but they are allowing it to go far beyond the queer coming-of-age tragedies that queer narratives had been locked into for years and years, and BL/QL has been the key used to unlock that potential.
My knee-jerk reaction was not about the queerness in the shows or of the people involved. My fears have to do with what kinds of queerness are allowed to be expressed publicly and in performance. And this isn’t gmmtv’s fault but fans and sponsors are often timid to show their love to clockable effeminacy. DMD and CopyA have been the most forceful in pushing back against that, and we saw GMMTV explore possibilities with Diva Deva Mata (GIVE FLUKE A LEAD PART YESTERDAY!) Still, there seems to be a bigger hurdle to building excitement around more overtly effeminate performers.
When I hear actors told to treat BL as typical love stories, I wonder if it doesn’t limit the potential for actors to push into more effeminate places with their characters and performance; not a caricature of effeminacy, mind you, but characters who others might read as gay based on their body language or voice. Instead of the exceptions like PP Krit and Gun Atthaphan, could effeminate boys be a norm? Could we cheer for them, too, or does everyone need to be masc for us to care? On the other side, we could look at how (un)willing the GL industry has been to depict more butch characters so far—thank you 4 elements for giving us wlw who we can clock from a mile away, though! And then there’s the dearth of trans/tom/kathoey love stories in the genre.
If you look closely, you can see the experiments and attempts for in-roads to these depictions of queerness gearing up and taking place. And I have a lot of trust in the people in the industry, too. They figured out a gradualist way to inject such profoundly compelling queer stories into the market that the entire country couldn’t deny its power and made dramatic political changes. Other historical elements and technologies helped with that, but still! That wouldn’t have been possible if they weren’t putting the efforts in already. I don’t think the current moment is the final say on how inclusive QL can be. When we say treat queer stories as normal stories, we’re not saying shrink them to fit into heterosexual models; we’re asking for an expansion of the circle of what one understands to be possible for love and human experience rather than confining them away.
You dared to risk your life because your man’s going to dump you. How about this? If I help you with this, can we consider my debt paid? If you can prove it with evidence, I might consider forgiving your debt. Then don’t worry. Other people’s business is my area of expertise, Mr. Boiling Tofu. Just don’t be all bark and no bite. I need results too, Mr. Black-Smoke Barking Dog.

A DOG AND A PLANE | EP 1
random PSA, I know a lot of people use duckduckgo as a Google alternative search engine, but it always kind of annoyed me when I was using it because it felt like No Name Brand Google
I have switched to using Startpage.com and vastly prefer it. for one thing, instead of displaying an "AI summary" at the top of the search results (unless you turn it off, yes I know), it displays the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, with link, whenever it finds one that's relevant.
also a waaayyyyy better sense of design than duckduckgo
also private, European based, least annoying search I've used lately (RIP old "don't be evil" Google)
Keeping a list of Google alternatives just in case…
i have one of those, scraped from multiple different rec posts:
Search Engines
Infinity Search is an alternative search engine with a special focus on privacy
DuckDuckGo is a popular search engine for those who value their privacy and are put off by the thought of their every query being tracked and logged. Uses bangs, ![site] for in-page search (sells your data to microsoft and draws from fucking bing)
WolframAlpha is a privately owned search engine that allows you to “compute expert-level answers using Wolfram’s breakthrough algorithms, knowledgebase, and AI technology.” A data search engine.
Boardreader is a search engine for forums and message boards. It allows you to search forums and then filter down results by date and language.
Based in France, Qwant is a privacy-based search engine that won’t record your searches or use your personal details for advertising. Uses “&” as a bang search.
Another privacy-based search engine is Search Encrypt, which uses local encryption to ensure that users’ identifiable information cannot be tracked. Metasearch across multiple engines.
Offering unbiased results from several sources, SearX is a metasearch engine that aims to present a free, decentralized view of the internet. Can be self-hosted.

https://search.marginalia.nu/ an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed. Use old-school searching rather than query-based for the best results.
https://www.mojeek.com/
https://wiby.me/ - It’s goal is to index as many personalized websites as possible, and NOT commercial sites.
https://4get.ca/ it works a lot like SearX, but honestly better. It doesn’t have its own index, but pulls from many others. I think it’s the best for research, since it allows you to search for answers from different indexes, is easy to configure, add free, and avoids censorship as much as it can.
