33. Kaleidoscalp

After the more commercial Enter the Chicken, BH returns to his weirdness with Kaleidoscalp. As on the cover, this album features a lot of interesting circuit breaking sounds, giving it a different electronic feel than past albums. Still a generally heavy album, it features a few ballad songs as well. "The Android of Notre Dame" is a tribute to Pantera's guitarist Dimebag Darrell, which was originally released soon after his death and was rerecorded for this album.

33. Enter the Chicken

Another one of BH most popular albums, mostly due to most tracks on it have vocals from a guest. It almost feels like a sequel to Monsters and Robots. Featuring Saul Williams, Maximum Bob, Efrem Schulz and Serj Tankian, this album was put out on Serj’s label and received much more press and production than any of BH other albums, with “We Are One” getting its own music video and many of its songs being featured on soundtracks. 

This album was repressed in 2008 and can still be found new at Serj’s web store.

32. The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell

Possibly his heaviest album, full of constant heavy riffing and blast beats. Basically a death metal album, but still has his weird experimental flair to it.

This album also features a music video for the song Spokes For The Wheel Of Torment, which is one of very few music video’s he has.

31. Population Override

First full traditional collab with Travis Dickerson, this album has the feel of a long jam session, they’d later break up into separate songs. Very influenced to 60s/70s psych and jam, this is a pretty relaxing album.

This was recently rereleased on vinyl with bonus tracks from Funnel Weaver and Cobra Strike’s first album.

Though the vinyl is now sold out, the CD can still be bought on Ion’s Bandcamp.

30. Island of Lost Minds

Continues the similar chaotic metal sound of Bucketheadland 2, with even more experimentation. Released as a tour only CD this is extremely hard to find but can be heard on Youtube.

29. Bucketheadland 2

His 10th album is a sequel to his first Bucketheadland. The same themes as the first, this time with a more organized story as you take a full trip through Bucketheadland. Musically this album is much heavier than the first, still having many samples and spoken parts by Bootsy and “Shrunken head”. Definitely a staple in his collection.

28. Electric Tears

Another one of Buckethead’s most popular albums. This is one of his calmest albums, with no drums/beats, or bass, just acoustic and electric guitars. This has always been one of my favorite albums to fall asleep to since it came out, and it always brings sweet dreams.

This album has been brought back into print and can be bought on Amazon, and I highly recommend you do.

27. Bermuda Triangle

Basically a collab with Extrakd, who produced and mixed the album. This album is a perfect blend of BH electronic and metal. Also made fully on a multi-track, the beats are very electronic/ club like. The whole album is themed after it’s name the Bermuda Triangle.

26. Funnel Weaver

#7 studio album. This is an interesting album by him because it is made up of 49 very short tracks. Made fully on a multi-track recorder, most tracks are him playing off of one single drum track. Very similar feels to KFC Skin Piles.

25. Thanatopsis

Thanatopsis is a Buckethead/ Travis Dickerson collaboration named after the  William Cullen Bryant poem. This first self titled release is much different than the collabs with Dickerson in the past, being a lot more fast paced and heavier. Dickerson really plays with a lot of organ and synth sounds while BH does his riffing.

24. Shin Terai “Unison”

Running behind so time to play catch up. First off, happy birthday (yesterday) to Mr. Buckethead!

First we’ll start with Shin Terai’s beautiful debut. This is honestly one of my absolute favorites. BH, Laswell, Nicky Skopelitis,  Bernie Worrell, and of course Shin Terai all blend perfectly in this mix. It’s hard to describe the music as it’s not relaxing in a sense of Coma but certainly not intense either. Its electronic but not enough where it takes anything away from the real instruments. While BH guitar is obliviously there, it isn’t the focus either. Everything is just perfectly mixed.

23. KFC Skin Piles

Buckethead’s first and only EP. This was made only on vinyl as a tool for DJs. Made up of mostly movie samples, beats, and yes riffs, it is pretty repetitive to listen to on its own, similar to Some where Over the Slaughterhouse. Still a pretty fun listen, good background music.

22. Some where over the slaughterhouse

His 6th studio album takes a very different step from his last Monsters and Robots. Very electronic like The Day of the Robot but with a lot of acoustic vibes like on Coma. Over all this is a very mixed up album, each track sounding pretty different than the last. A bit on the repetitive side, you can tell he was very influenced from his work in Cobra Strike.

This album is out of print and one of the harder albums to find a copy of, it was also the first of his albums to be released on vinyl. It can be heard on Youtube.

21. Cobra Strike II “Y, Y+B, X+Y <hold>”

The second Cobra Strike album, this time Buckethead, DJ Disk, and a few other guest musicians. Same idea as the first album where the sound is very video game soundtrack influenced. Bucketheads great melodies play along side Disks scratching. Movie samples come from El Topo and Phantasm.

20. El Stew

El Stew is Buckethead, Brain, and DJ Disk. DJ Disk’s scratching is the main focus of El Stew, with BH guitar being looped in. A very weird but great combination, almost dance like Day of the Robot but more experimental. Their first studio release was No Hesitation (1999), with 2 other jam albums “The Rehearsal” (2003) and “The Dark Night Of A Million Stains – The Rehearsal #2″ (2011).

19. Death Cube K “Tunnel”

Tunnel is the first Death Cube K album that does not feature collaborating with Bill Laswell but instead with Travis Dickerson. Still a very similar sound to the past Death Cube K albums, Travis’s use of piano and Mini Moog add a whole different level of ambiance, almost more space and mechanical like. It brings vibes of what you’d hear on a space ship in a horror movie. The song Tunnel is one of the only Death Cube K songs that BH has played live.

18. Monsters and Robots

Right along side Colma, Monsters and Robots is one of BH most popular albums. It was much more heavily advertised and produced than his other albums, with Les Claypool co-writing and playing bass on a lot of the album, as well as signing on The Ballad of Buckethead, which tells a backstory of the man Buckethead. Bootsy also lends vocals on The Shape vs Buckethead and Brain also drums on most of the album.

Jumpman is still regularly played at shows and this album is kept in print and can be found on Amazon.
