Info about custom sparkles:
I'm currently working on finding a better photoshop software so I can make better sparkle on images. My old software was some crappy phone app that hid everything behind a subscription and promoted a LOT of generative AI (boo)
I'm thinking of possibly setting up a system where if I can get my own personal sparkle on images to a decent quality, maybe doing (very cheap) commissions? Would y'all pay like a dollar for a sparkle image? I'm starting college soon so I'm thinking of ways to make money, but I don't wanna seem too greedy. LMK what y'all think.

I read some books for pride month and really wanna talk about them!
I have been struggling to get back into consistently reading for a while, so I decided to read some queer books for pride month and I just wanted to yap about them quick!
I know it's not blog related and if you don't like the post just lmk in the comments, but I wanted to post something fun (also I know I never changed my profile picture- starting a full time job while simultaneously making a whole cosplay in a month has been taking up like all my time)
Oki so let's gooooooo:
Apparently Sir Cameron Needs to Die by Greer Stothers (@pangur-and-grim)
I loved this book! (You're going to see a lot of that...) It was fun, silly, weird, and a perfect break from the 600-page super-serious sci-fi books I was reading. I still love those, but you gotta change it up every now and then, yeah? I had been meaning to read this book since it came out (I followed Greer on here for their cats, but have been delighted to find a new author to read) and never got around to it until I picked up a copy at my local bookstore.
This book is overall lighthearted, it's the kind of book you go into expecting a happy ending. The protagonist is flawed in a way intended to be funny and charming, and I think that is conveyed very well. The chemistry between the two main characters is great and it is a TRUE enemies to lovers. They actually dislike each other at the beginning... which is not true for some books marketed in the same way.
While this book has a great main cast, I found all the side characters really charming. All the people in the story feel real in a way I find hard to describe. They're all flawed, some pretty unlikable, but they're so easy to empathize with and understand where they're coming from. I particularly liked Glenda. I could fix her. Trust me.
Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys enemies to lovers, fantasy, sci-fi, weird little guys (gender neutral), or just a really funny book.
Ladies in Hating by Alexandra Vasti
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book, it was on a front display in a local bookstore run by a friend, and I just wanted to buy something to be supportive. It looked interesting enough and I wanted a gay book to read. I ended up enjoying it a lot, but being quite subverted in my expectations from it.
The writing of the books reads similar to books of the time that it is set, which I enjoyed. It may be nitpicky, but I'm not a fan of books set in a historical setting that uses modern language, it just takes me out of it. That being said- it is modernized a bit so it doesn't take a lot of brainpower to comprehend. All this to say, it's a light read while still being immersive!
I LOVE the main characters of this story. My god. I don't even know how best to articulate it. They have so much emotion, love and fear of being loved or abandoned or hurting those you love. It's done in a way that doesn't feel too over the top to me, and I quite enjoyed the tension of Cat and Georgianna's relationship. However... I wouldn't really classify this book as an "enemies to lovers" as the title would suggest. Once the two feuding women find out who each other are (within the first few chapters) They are fumbling over themselves due to how attractive they find the other. It's still entertaining and enjoyable, but a little different than how it was marketed.
THE SETTING... I really don't want to spoil this book (please read it it's so fun) but the Renwick House is described in a way that I find so fascinating and palpable. It gave me the anxiety I'd have if I was in a creepy, spooky, abandoned manor. And the ROSE GARDEN!!!
This book also has amazing depictions of period-accurate queer relationships. And it wasn't until I read the author's note that I discovered they were based off of a mix of actual queer people from history. It was a fun discovery to make and just made the whole experience of this book so much more fun and fascinating.
READ THIS BOOK.
Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid
I felt like I HAD to read this book. I watched the show and I always try and read the book a show/movie I have watched is based on. So I did.
I don't want to be comparing the show to the book too much, they're both great and the show is a VERY accurate recreation of the book, almost surprisingly so. But obviously, the book contains a lot more scenes and details left out of the show.
I was really compelled by the romance in the book, moreso than the show. In the show, I could feel the sexual tension at the beginning, but it didn't really entertain me. In the book, it's clear Ilya and Shane's relationship started out purely sexual, but the romantic feelings come in way quicker than I picked it up in the show.
I was really compelled by the romance. I mean, how can you not be? It's the classic star-crossed lovers. They are in love, but can't let anyone know. I'm a sucker for it. Ilya and Shane are such complex characters, and as you find more out about their backgrounds, you can see how that shaped them as people. It's really clever writing and I enjoyed it.
Bonus:
I have started reading Game Changer (also by Rachel Reid, it's the first from her series if I'm not mistaken) and I'm having trouble getting through it. I'm not sure if my asexual ass is getting a little tired of the smut, or if the relationship just isn't connecting with me yet. I plan to finish the book, just couldn't do it by the end of the month.
It's funny, though, because I found Scott and Kip's romance way more compelling out of the gate in the show. In the book it's just feeling like "wow this guys is soooo hotttt lets have sex 20 times" and while someone else may enjoy that and there's nothing wrong with that, it's not what I expected going in. I think it'll get better though, if it's as faithful to the show as Heated Rivalry was.
