I did not do myself any favors using this as a reference.

Probably should've put his pretty little curls in, but I'm new at this and scared. But for my second completed portrait I'm pretty happy with it! The pigment is pv15, or ultramarine violet. I did not expect it to granulate as much as it did, but I love the effect. I have never had a paint lift this much before, which was incredible because I had a lot of mistakes to fix, but also frustrating because each dry layer would come up a bit when I put the new layer on

The background is just neutral tint, because when I did wet on wet for his neck it spread too far, and I hadn't figured out the lifting yet

Watercolor is fun because it looks like absolute dogshit until about 85% of the way through:

Anyways usually watercolor artists use white gouche to add in highlights at the end, but I don't have any of that, so I used a water-based gel stain called unicorn spit that I use a lot in woodworking. It got the job done
