Hey, i've been having this re-occurring problem for a while now. Whenever i make notes i suddenly feel obliged to make them turn out pretty and aesthetically pleasing. I keep wasintg my study time by scrapping sheets of paper because my notes dont look nice. I'm not a huge studyblr user, i have a side blog that i just visit once in a while, not very regularly. I know im wasting so much time and effort like this but i dont know how to stop.
Hi love!
Because you said itâs something that is starting recently, Iâm going to assume itâs a problem triggered by the studyblr community or at least some studyblr blogs. I would try to unfollow blogs that are very driven to perfect sheets of notes.
If you feel like you need to just take a break from the studyblr community altogether go for it because the important thing at the moment should be focusing on how you can get over this and move on.
Once or if you feel prepared to come back, make sure you do with a new renewed mentality and not fall into the same mistake.
The keywords you have to keep repeating to yourself are:Â âProgress not perfectionâ. Progress, not perfection. Progress, not perfection.
And make a change in your head that makes you driven to learning in the most effective way and not trying to fit in a romanticized version of what you think studying should look like.
I think this is one of the problems studyblrs create, Iâve talked about this before: the illusion of a perfect study session, the illusion of perfect productivity, of a perfect student who never fails, who never writes a wrong word, whose notes look like printed paper.
When in reality the good-looking notes are a result of many tried pages, and itâs not pretty to show our mistakes, people donât reblog that. That doesnât mean we are all wrong and false, it means we like to display our successes and the best of us, BUT we have the responsibility to never pretend weâre something weâre not.Â
And I believe the majority of us has no problems in saying multiple times we are not perfect and no one should strive to reach an impossible perfection standard, up to the point you canât cope with mistakes in your notes. (Iâve seen multiple posts about this around)
So the next time you make a mistake, instead of throwing the page away repeat to yourself Progress not perfection, Progress not perfection. Think about how some pages are going to look better than others, thatâs just how it is. And also think about how much you have to study and how you are wasting your precious time redoing the same stupid page over and over again. Get mad at the situation. If you need to get up, go grab a glass of water. But donât throw the page away no matter what.
Iâm telling you what works for me, itâs always a pain in the ass but thatâs how I get over it quickly. Just a disclaimer, Iâm obviously in no way implying this is a solution to more serious problems such as OCD.
