hey so i just realized that if the writers dropped a flashback of rip and sara having a one night stand before or being friends with benefits i honestly would buy it. like they think no one knows except maybe jax but actually everyone pretty much knows lmao and actually now that i thought about it... i cant unthink it. it's too possible in fact i now consider it canon wow no one can take this away from me now

i’ve always thought rip was a complex character. and i’ve always thought rip and sara was a complex relationship with well-laid foundations and development since day 1

i’m disappointed they just killed rip off without having fleshed out the character, without seeing proper development, and having the time canary relationship suddenly forgotten

it’s not like i was expecting it to be canon. i love them the way they are. but it’s such a shame having all THAT without follow through. like i know arthur darvill’s availability was an issue but it was still all good until season 3 where the writers just didn’t know what to do with rip and where they suddenly dropped the relationship

i know LOT doesn’t have a big fandom, and the fandom it has are mostly sara lovers and/or lesbian!sara supporters (even though she’s canonically bi) and they mostly hate rip. and you know what, i get it. rip can be hard to like.

he’s an asshole. he makes one mistake after another. he’s depressed. he has the tendency to keep people away and avoid deeper relationships with people and has a tendency to self-destruct and self-sacrifice because he doesn’t think he’s worth it. you hate him? well he hates himself so much more.

but all his shit is why i like his character and have always rooted for his development… which never really satisfactorily happened. he didn’t have to die (just like stein didn’t have to die as well)

and as for the time canary relationship… that has been there since episode 1. one can argue on the romantic-ness of it but whatever it was… it has always been there. sara takes none of his shit. they keep fighting and challenging each other but in the end, they do value what each of them has to say. they could have been great co-captains and that’s one of the biggest shame-the-writers-didn’t-go-there things about this show.

sara is the most important person to rip now. she is literally his person. but he still keeps her at arm’s length and that’s why this thing doesn’t move forward. sara is frustrated by it because she cares about him. caity even said: she loves him and hates him at the same time. remember when rip got kidnapped and sara was SO fucking affected by it? girlfriend stopped at nothing to save him. jax knew there was something. after that arc, i knew there was no going back. i was glad the writers were still continuing the dynamic.

but then season 3 happened and i don’t even recognize this relationship anymore. rip was barely in it and time canary was suddenly dropped and forgotten. like ok, sara was in a relationship. but like… rip and sara is also a relationship she has. an important one. and their tiny ass interactions just didn’t feel true to how they were in the previous seasons.

so idk how i feel. a part of me is glad because i can stop waiting for nothing. but a bigger part of me is sad because the writers did not follow through with that sudden heroic self-sacrifice in the finale that honestly felt like a fast-forward on the character development i have been here for since season 1
