So many of y'all are focusing on Nicola's eyes in that cursed photo, but a big thing you're missing is her smile.

Nicola has a very specific type of smile she does when posing for photos. Whether it's close-mouthed, parted lips, or showing a bit of teeth, it's noticeable from a mile away. It's meticulous, practiced and perfect.

People say you can tell if a smile is genuine by whether it crinkles the corner of your eyes, but tbh I find it very easy to smile with my eyes on demand and I'm no actress...

What neither I nor any professional actor nor model can do tho, is pose for a candid shot. It simply cannot be done. There is always going to be a certain stiffness when one tries to pose a candid, and that's exactly what Nicola is doing in the photo with Jake.

There's a reason so many people clocked it but can't exactly describe why it's different to all the shots of Nic looking up at Luke with heart eyes. How it's not that she isn't smiling with her eyes (she is), or the dilation of her pupils (that's unreliable at best because we can't know what the lighting was like outside the frame at the exact moment the shot was taken), but it's her photoshoot-ready, posed smile that gives her away.

It's a lovely smile, don't get me wrong, but it's not the kind of smile that comes from the heart. You know, the kind where you're filled with such joy or love that it can't help but shine on your face. No, it's the kind of smile that's been perfected over years of shoots and media-training. It's the kind of smile you keep in your back pocket and whip out at a moment's notice.

And that my friends, is why I know this was some bizarre stunt. I can't tell you for the life of me what their angle is, and frankly I don't give a damn. Because try as they might, Lukola had the truth plastered over their faces during the entire press tour and even recently at SAGs, and it's all in the smile :)

My theory:

Last week, all the headlines were about the comments N made against JK Rowling, and the new HP series, not the fact that she raised over $100k for Not A Phase. N unfortunately received some backlash from the GA and lost some followers.

I don't think N normally cares what the GA thinks because she has always been outspoken and candid, but N is up for a BAFTA nomination. She has to be on the GA's good side. I think to switch things up and distance herself from the whole JK Rowling and HP drama, she had to create a newsworthy story. What is more newsworthy than making a red carpet debut with a boyfriend? The BAFTA nominee party was her first public appearance since she made those comments. She saw the opportunity to make headlines, and she seized it.

But why J, not L? Although going public with L would certainly create a lot more buzz, now is not the right time. People would question the timeline of their relationship, and it would make N's reputation tank because she would be accused of being a homewrecker. L was papped with A a little over a month ago. People eat up stories about on set affairs, cheating scandals, etc. It would bring L down with her.

It sucks. She can't win.

But remember one thing, N is smart. She can always bounce back from this and say that J was just a friend and that the media completely misconstrued him as her boyfriend. She wouldn't be the first nor last celeb to call the media out for lying/making up shit.

One last very important to note. N was flashing the claddagh ring only a few days ago. She knows we know. It was almost like she was giving her fans reassurance before all the staged bs with J.

Going public with Luke at this time would also immediately make it look like a PR stunt to the public and I don’t think they want their relationship labeled that way at all.

So she took the guy she’s been rumored with because that still reads like a PR tactic to distract. And it did distract.

But I don’t think she’s got herself into a corner with this. Her words are being thrown back at her currently which is to be expected but I think they can move away from this asap if they want to.

Honestly, no one gives a fuck about who Nicola is dating in the GA. They don’t care about Jake. They would care about Luke though. That’s a true headline love story that would be everywhere.

But Jake? It can be erased in a week and the only people who care are the small amount of fans who think they won a prize with this nonsense.

I feel optimistic that there’s a plan for this, too. There’s never not a plan. And do you really think Nicola, who gave a genuine speech about not being tied to a man is going to want this narrative hanging out there for very long?

Some rambly ring theory thoughts.

Ok first off I was not a ring truther from the start but when you all laid out the evidence it became a lot more obvious.

1. If the ring was truly just about S3 why didn’t she have it commissioned earlier so she could have it for the whole tour? Or at the very least have it for the Part 1 Premiere as well as Part 2?

2. I’ve firmly believed that something was explored in the later half of S3 filming but both came to some kind of agreement to take a break out of fear that feelings were purely from the filming process.

3. Jump to reshoots and the WT and it’s a like falling back into a warmth and comfort they only have with each other- they know it’s the real deal.

4. The ring starts off as a promise- L needs to figure out how to break up with a girl who he was never really dating to being with. This proves to be increasingly difficult but the promise still holds true.

5. Now it’s October and the ring switches hands. There’s no longer plausible deniability that it’s just a very special piece of jewelry, it’s a statement.

6. You can rip that ring from my cold dead hands but I refuse to believe that a ring that seems so special to her and has so many details connected to L and their history could be for a 24 year old.

Rest assured. JD is one of her besties. Always has been, always will always be...

We haven't seen L & N together in so long that memories are short, but the rings have always been a reminder for N and for us. And the switch lately is something else...

Calm theory anon here!!! We are going to start off strong with a how do actors shut down dating rumors? What are some of the ways you have seen actors shut down rumors before? Most of the time it's with a he is just my friend or with a oh we are just friends. And those that are blunt will say we don't see each other like that. They are direct and want to kill the rumors before they start flying. Nicola didn't have to mention Luke at all. The fact that she did speaks volumes. She mention her relationship with her costar when she discussing a bunch of serious topics. If they were just friends why is he even in her head as a discussion topic. My friends I don't think about like that meaning they don't occupy space in my thoughts for them to be a regular conversation. The only time I will talk on someone is if they are more than friends. If it's a man I have a crush on I will go on and on about him. He's in my head so naturally he's who I discuss. This article was time to kill the rumors and we are just good friends would have killed the rumors. Yet we got how she always called them and she has called him friends before in other interviews. She played the same card she been playing. Talking about her relationship with him as special while calling him a friend. Why doesn't she just tell us they are just friends? Because that would be a lie they are more. So she skirts around the truth. Also no fan pages I have seen is anyone saying marriage we say we want them together or they are together. I haven't seen anyone mention marriage 👀. Interesting that's how she phrased the fans wants. Guys we are getting closer and closer to a reveal. Truth always has a way of coming out and their love they wont be able to hide forever.

Y'all, she didn't have to mention L... AT ALL. And the marriage comment (DEFINITELY intentional). EVERYTHING she talked about in that article was intentional and approved of before it was released. She was never going to announce their relationship in the article, but she also can't totally shut down the rumors because they aren't "just friends". So she makes sure people know in this very important article (that really is about her accomplishments and really wasn't focusing on any type of Bridgerton promo) that L and her have a lot of love for each other and a "gorgeous friendship"... and mentions that a lot of people want her to marry LUKE. SHE. DID. NOT. HAVE. TO. SAY. THIS. I can't stress that enough. This interview was apparently done before the Emmy's in early September... A LOT has seemed to change publicly since then for L/N. The RINGS being one of the major ones 👀

This article is likely going to live "forever" and in it's original form. And she very intentionally mentioned TWO people in her personal life that she wanted to live in this article (ON TIME MAGAZINE). Her father, who was VERY important to her and a huge influence on her life, and... LUKEEEE. Like, y'all, just marinate on that for a few minutes. This doesn't read as my work bestie. This reads as someone who will likely be in her life for a LONG TIME.

She mentioned she is VERY aware that people ship the two of them. And when prompted to talk about her relationship with L (which she definitely agreed to in advance), she not only doesn't totally shut down rumors, she says a lot of "people" want her to marry L. I think that goes beyond just fans. And then in early October we see her move the claddagh on her left hand, and L just sort of randomly shows up in this pic at her house while she's getting ready for an event with a ring on his ring finger. And then they went to NY together on a vacation (and work for N at least). Like this just isn't subtle. And some people just refuse to look at the evidence/information that is being presented to us on this topic. And there is still some "secret" shoot she teased about where she was wearing a dress she wore multiple times on the tour with her claddagh rings on full display (and no other jewelry). Idk y'all, I have this feeling that when L/N publicly announce their relationship, they are going to have some BIG news to announce.

Side note: I just wanted to add... N is SOOO cool!! I like legit want to be like her when I'm 37 😍

It's maybe only my delulu. But Nicola seem really shyly shyly happy these days. Like new in a lovely relationship. She sometimes seem like trying her best to not smile too much.

In fact a lot of people have picked up on it.

The way she was beaming talking about filming and Polin being happily married with a baby was something else.

We tend to think Luke is the one that has trouble hiding his expressions but I think Nicola is just as bad.

I have a theory on why JD is always present lately and it has to do with Nicola’s profile skyrocketing this year.

While doing promo for Bridgerton both she and Luke had security around. Once this was done in June I don’t think she left safe or at least at ease going places alone. And this applies especially to foreign places like Malta or NYC. Basically she prefers to have someone she trust close for this reason. JD is available, doesn’t have any projects currently, neither a spouse or kids as her other friends do. So he is basically a “bodyguard” but also part of her friends group. Having said this, I don’t feel any sense of panic or distress in the clip with her and JD. It doesn’t look like anyone was following them and getting out of the building no one is really paying her any attention, with the exception of the “fan” filming obviously. I think it was more of a case of being annoyed she can’t enjoy her day off. At one point it must get old for people to keep asking for your pic or autograph, maybe she was just not feeling it in that moment.

Not going to lie, when I first saw the clip I thought they are dating. But something feels off, it’s like he doesn’t know what to do with his hands or how to act. And if they were a real couple, we would see it more in their body language (especially his). JD doesn’t really look like he’s into her and that is weird for a boyfriend.

It's plausible that JD would act as protection for N when L can't be there or seen.

They aren't dating because JD is part of her gay entourage. He's open about it and even tried to clarify with his story & carousel around Emmys time. (See my 5 diff. posts on JD & friends)

my humble hypothesis is that either they were in spain before sorrento or if they were there recently, luke still wanted to communicate "single" with that kind of photo, especially with his underwear on that chair.. what is strange is his hair that should now be long also on the sides, instead to me it seems very similar to sorrento.. then, the video of her is also strange, ok she is short, but not as much as the hedge that was on the balcony in the photo that luke posted.. I don't know, everything about this holiday in spain is strange.. what do you think?
