rent lowering gunshot: this post is about yosuke adachi parallels and its not in a ship way but i want to make it clear i am making it because i do lowkey ship them. okay

okay. so the more obvious comparison is that adachi is a foil to yu. yu actively works to connect with people, and draws strength from those connections; adachi tries to push people away even when they try to connect, so he can justify staying bitter and alone lol. to drive the point home they even get the same persona.
you could make a case for “in a different world, an adult yu could have ended up like adachi". not necessarily in the sense that he'd be resentful imo, but more in the sense that he'd become detached from the world w no interest in bonding with others.
i feel like yosuke, on the other hand, would be closer to a perfect match in that kind of "what if" scenario.
he's already got the inklings of it. similarly been forced to move to the countryside. gets pushed around a lot and isn't fond of it, but plays up the cheerful/goofy demeanor to keep fitting in. (there's also the fact he was pushing a bittttt too hard to kill a guy but i talked abt that before lol.)
they're both rotting away in this incredibly boring and aimless rural life, when suddenly these insane supernatural powers are dropped into their lap. yosuke decides to be a hero and adachi decides to be a villain, but their motivations are, at their core, pretty much identical. Just wanted to have a little fun.
So Epic.
that's why yeah i could see another universe where yosuke becomes just as bitter as adachi if he were never forced to confront his other self. i think the thing ultimately holding yosuke back from becoming "an adachi" atm is that unlike him, he still wants to be a good person at heart.
he still tries to connect with people despite his circumstances. even if his motivations for being a hero might be a little selfish, he's still trying to do the right thing. yes he does try to talk you into committing murder... but as opposed to adachi who lashed out when he didn't get the attention he's "entitled to", yosuke had a moment where his sense of justice was twisted by grief and anger. i feel like adachi has just given up on all of that and that's why izanami picked him.
not sure that such a "adachi-like" yosuke would actually happen outside of my high level delusion, though his outlook on life might change in that universe where he gets a few years to fester. but i think the idea that that dark side exists at all, that he seriously considered trying to take someone's life (and lowkey continues to. i did not forget how he tried to attack adachi in ultimax manga), is something he'd really hate about himself. because it's a reflection of the person he hates the most.
after working years in retail and then going back to play p4, yosuke is the strongest bitch on the team. he works retail AS the manager’s son who keeps expecting him to do a bunch of shit IN a town that hates his dad and the store AND his coworkers are mostly shite
