DART Now Goes to DFW!
It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here: DART will offer service to DFW airport starting August 18th! During peak times of 4:30-7 a.m. and 2:15-5:30 p.m. weekday departures from DFW Airport Station, the Orange Line travels from the station in Terminal A through Irving, into downtown Dallas and to Parker Road Station in Plano. Off-peak, it follows the same path but terminates at LBJ/Central Station. Select late-night Orange Line trains will travel from DFW Airport Station to downtown; from there they will go through Deep Ellum and end at Fair Park Station.
Check out schedules at DART.org and download GoPass, the mobile ticket app of DART, and book your pass in advance. This is one of the cheapest and most convenient ways to get to the airport versus paying for parking. For fares, visit http://www.dart.org/fares/fares.asp. Travel times listed below:

DFW Airport Parking & Alternatives
Sometimes when you don't have friends or family available to give you a ride, you'll end up resorting to self-parking at the airport. Back in the day, this wasn't too much of an inconvenience considering the lower costs, but today it can cost as much as parking overnight at a four star hotel. At DFW, you have four options:
Valet - $27 plus tax / day
Terminal - covered parking at the gate for $20 / day, $18 /day if you use your TollTag
Express - shuttle service to and from your car at $11 / day for uncovered, $13 / day for covered
Remote - continuous terminal bus service to and from the lot at $9 / day for uncovered
If you're taking a trip that spans at least three days, you can see how quickly airport parking adds up. You're essentially paying for convenience. For awhile, I got the hang of parking Remote and waiting for a terminal bus never took longer than 10-15 minutes. I even picked a spot that would become "my regular spot". It was always available near the parking lot exit.
Recently, I found a cheaper alternative that was just as convenient and reliable. I used About Airport Parking to find the Westin hotel near DFW that offered free shuttle service to and from their lot. It only cost me $6 / day and it was about a 15 minute ride from the hotel to the terminal gate, the same amount of time I would be waiting at the Remote parking for a bus anyway. The site will also find you deals from DAL (Love Field).
If you're dead set on leaving your car at home, having some personal space, and you're not too concerned about saving a few bucks, then you have Uber and Lyft.
Uber is the shiny, black car service (or depending on your mood and wallet a more casual pick-up service called Uber X) that you call for on your mobile app. If you use the promo code g3gal your first ride with Uber is free. I've used both Uber and Uber X in SFO, NYC, and other bigger cities I've visited. It's super convenient and one of my favorite travel apps.
Lyft is like having a friend drive you to the airport. It's very casual, the drivers like to chat, and it can be a little cheaper than taking an Uber. The only difference is that currently there are less Lyft drivers in Dallas as Uber has an advantage in the market right now. Use promo code RIDE43 to get your first ride free (expires Aug 31, 2014).
Now if you don't mind ride-sharing, you can take the original SuperShuttle. It starts at $27 roundtrip for the first passenger, and $10 for each additional person, but depending on your pickup location and how far they'll have to come get you, it could be more. From my apartment downtown to DFW, the cost estimated $57 excluding taxes and a tip. Since this is a shared van, you'll have to factor in more time for your arrival at the airport. This should be your last resort if all other alternatives are unavailable.
Head to Dallas Love Field for non-stop Southwest Airlines flights as low as $73 each way. Book by Aug 14 for travel between Aug 25 - Dec 17!
