This is what I imagine the backrooms to sound like
I make music for people that buy rusted meat hooks from the antique store to put on their walls

There’s a tornado watch. Maybe I’ll stay up all night and listen to the rain fall amongst the rooftop, while the lightning overexposes everything in the darkness as the thunder rolls. I haven’t heard any talk of a cyclone yet, but I remember where my infatuation started. Under the staircase, as a child crying to God, clutching a Butterfree plush as the sound of the wind howling like a freight train surrounded everything.

The reason I made “To Lie Upon” 21 minutes long is to be representative of how long an episode of sleep paralysis can last, the isolation and stillness that is encapsulated within that time can feel like an eternity, which is why it’s a foreboding drone track that seems to drag forever. It’s supposed to feel like the slipping in and out of the confusion to what is happening and trying to reconcile with the darkness that literally feels like is suffocating on top of you in your bed. This idea all came from a horrible night’s sleep a few weeks ago, and I heard the most beautiful hum beating from within my own head during the episode. I guess I can never escape the drone . . .
