~{Nanbaka Headcannons}~

Cuddling/Sleeping Headcannons

Hajime Sugoroku:

This man has to chase down and monitor four idiots around the clock while at the same time balancing ever growing piles of paperwork and ensuring that the warden is none the wiser to his inmates’ constant jail breaking. That doesn’t even include what he has to deal with outside of his building like his stomach problems and his annoying coworkers (especially that damn monkey). Needless to say, it takes it’s toll; at the end of the day one of the things he looks forward to most is catching up on lost sleep.

Because of this I can see him falling asleep the moment his head hits the pillow, isolated on his side of the bed. Don’t get the wrong idea! It’s not that he doesn’t like to touch you, he just feels more comfortable this way. He’s not exactly the touchy feely type so he’s gonna want his own space to stretch out. He may move closer to you but other than that there’s no physical connection.

If you look closely, however, you’ll notice that no matter what position he sleeps in…he’s always facing you. Despite his stern personality and, at times, brash behavior, he still cares about you. He’d go through hell and back for you if it guaranteed your safety. By facing you, he can always ensure that you’re ok every time he opens his eyes even if it’s for a split second. If the blanket is slipping off you he fixes it so you won’t be cold, if you’re tossing and turning from a nightmare he’ll set a cold glass of water on the nightstand and switch the lamp on for when you wake up (if the nightmare is bad enough to upset you he’ll stay awake with you if need be).

Not only that but he secretly likes that fact that you’re the first thing he sees when he starts out his day.

Samon Gokuu:

Though Samon would never admit it out loud, cuddling is probably one of his favorite things to do with you. When he’s not busy making sure things run smoothly in Building 5, he’s usually training, not only himself, but Liang, Upa, Rokuriki, and many others. Because of this, his free time is slim. If neither of you are in the mood to go out somewhere or do any kind of physical activity, cuddling is his go to. After all, with everything he has to do, he’s most likely drained by the end of the day.

Whether it be on the couch or in bed, Samon loves nothing more than to spoon you or be spooned. If he’s the big spoon he’ll wrap his arms snug around you, pull you close, and bury his face in your hair; if it’s reversed then he’ll simply hold your arms that are locked around his middle. Added bonus! Big spoon or little spoon, his tail will always be curled around you. Even if you both fell asleep with his tail hanging limp on the other side of the bed, sometime during the night it will migrate and subconsciously curl around either your leg, arm, or waist by morning.

In a way, I think growing up in the mountains with an aloof older brother and oddball of a grandfather would have left Samon deprived of proper nurturing (especially since his grandfather practically kidnapped him from his mother as an infant). Sure his grandfather would ruffle his hair at times and there was that one time Enki rested his hand on his head in acknowledgement but other than that, affection was few and far between. As independent as he was (and still is), he may not have realized how much he craved affection until he met Noriko. Even though he referred to her as big sister, she was the one who brought any type of deeply meaningful affection to his life even if he wasn’t looking for it in the first place. Because of this, he most likely saw her in a more maternal light at certain times.

Now that his closest family are dead, he basically feels alone. Whenever he snuggles you close, he’s assuring himself that you’re not only breathing but you’re there and that you’re not going anywhere.

Kenshirou Yozakura:

When it comes to cuddling, the only thing Kenshirou is concerned about is your comfort. In saying this, he will basically position himself in whatever way makes you feel most comfortable and secure.

Wanna spoon? He’ll big spoon you and wrap his arms so snug around you, you’ll feel the safest you’ve ever been in your life. Not once will he ever complain about the major cases of dead arm he wakes up with the morning after. Not one for snuggling? He’ll respect your wishes and give you your space (though he’s secretly reluctant), but ,like Hajime, he’ll sleep facing towards you so he can keep an eye on you.

However, if you were to inquire about his specific preferences he’d have to say he prefers lying on his back with your head on his chest. Not only is this a comfortable position for both of you but it’s a flexible one. Either one or both of you can throw an arm or leg over the other without discomfort of numb limbs or over heating. Added benefits of this position for him is a perfect view of your peaceful sleeping face and soft hair to rest his chin or cheek on while resting.

Kiji Mitsuba:

For a man as glamorous as he, beauty sleep is simply not something to be taken lightly or cut corners on. Despite his demanding job, he tries to get a full eight hours in, if not, seven (he’ll be damned if eye bags mar his appearance!). Not only is getting proper sleep mandatory for fresh, healthy looking skin but it’s overall good for you. And you know what else is good for you? Cuddling! Not only does it feel good but it’s a major stress relief which is an added bonus. The fact that he has a bed partner makes resting all the more, well, restful!

Given his obvious maternal instincts for those he favors, he’s going to make sure you not only get proper rest but the best quality. Because of this, he prefers sleeping on his side face-to-face with his arms around you; not too tight, but not too loose, not too close ,yet not too far. This position will also allow him to go the extra mile; combing his long fingers through your hair ,gently massaging your scalp ,and covering your face in kisses. Who wouldn’t love that? With the peasant, you’ll be putty in his hand and snoozing within seconds .

TRANS LARS: THE MASTERPOST

Because I saw a lot of confused posts by people who seem to think that the Trans Lars headcanon has sprung out of nowhere after “The New Lars”, when in fact this episode only further completed a picture that has been in the making for a long time. Don’t believe me? Here’s everything I could find to indicate that Lars is a trans boy, from the very beginning.

First of all: From his looks to his mannerisms, Lars is someone who adheres to a quite strict code of hypermasculinity that is, apparently, self-imposed. If you look at his environment and at the people he associates with, it does not seem likely that he picked up that kind of behavior from direct outside influences. Sadie is totally chill and also doesn’t give much of a hoot about stereotypical gendered presentation. The cool kids are also chill, and actually surprisingly in touch with their not so stereotypically male sides. Ronaldo? – Nope. Now we met his parents, and they also don’t seem the type for toxic masculinity. But Lars draws the need to be perceived like that from somewhere, and if it’s not from the pressure and the standards of masculinity coming from the people around him, then where?

I mean, this is almost a caricature of “manspreading”.

Sometimes – ok, pretty often – he takes it too far and comes off as simply a jerk (though I feel like I need to mention that Lars has some very real emotional issues and this is by no means all related to him being trans!), but as it always is with over-the-top behavior in a certain direction: it’s mostly just there to distance yourself from something else that you really don’t want to be associated with. In Lars’ case, the way I see it, the most distance from being seen as a girl is achieved by playing up his masculinity, and as he’s still young and insecure about himself, he tends to overdo it.

In Lars and the Cool Kids, Lars takes center stage for the first time – and takes off his shirt. Some people have used this to discredit the trans theory, because his chest is flat and he doesn’t have any surgery scars that we can see, but actually, I beg to differ. It is unlikely that Lars at his age would have had top surgery done anyway, but surgery is not the only possibility here. He could be on puberty blockers. He could be on T. Additionally, he could just have naturally small breasts – you know, those exist. And if you look at Lars’ build (barely discernible upper chest fat, no hip fat, skinny as a stick), it seems that he has just always had a very boyish figure anyway, no matter what gender he was assigned at birth. (EDIT: For those who don’t want to discount surgery completely: there is such a things as Keyhole or Periareolar Surgery, which is perfectly suited for naturally small-breasted people and leaves little to no noticeable scarring. Thank you @papercrane for pointing that out!)

And looking at him in this episode, he is definitely not completely flat-chested.

A boy that skinny has no business having that much muscle/fat in his upper chest area, and yet he is consistently drawn with that slight outward curve of his chest and the line in the middle of it. You can often even see it while he has his shirt on. This is not character design happening on accident; this is very much intendend.

And I believe Lars is aware that he passes very well, but maybe not entirely upon close inspection. It doesn’t seem like going around shirtless is something he is accustomed to, and his reaction when he sees the Cool Kids all undress for going swimming is the opposite of enthusiasm: shock, maybe a little bit of fear.

He then turns away to take his shirt off and visibly steels himself, taking a deep breath and a sort of “I can do this”-moment before turning around again, ready to face them.

Then, of course, they almost get eaten alive by Rose’s moss and Lars saves the day with Steven, all the while shirtless, and by the end his initial anxiety about it seems to have all but dissipated. He even initiates Steven’s “chest-high-five” that he had been fending off before; showing, I believe, both that he has bonded with Steven and that he has become a little more confident about casual touches in that area being okay.
