I also think in general people could spare to understand that valid critique does not really disqualify the factor of something earnestly resonating with someone, and you probably cannot bully them out of liking it by concocting a list of all its flaws and placing it in front of them, bc often they are not as ignorant to these flaws as you want to pretend, and are actually perfectly capable of accepting critique, it’s you, the critic, being an asshole who won’t let up on the insistence that something being flawed, problematic, or limited in what it can express, makes it inherently bad, and the threshold of this is going to be different for everyone, like, congratulations on learning how art works

If you are an artist, sometimes you have to deal with with people who just want to be cruel, but will insist “all critique is good critique.” It is not. Critique should be done with the intent of helping the artist improve, otherwise what you are doing is just insulting it, with the opposite intent, discouraging the artist from wanting to create, or the audience from wanting to engage, I.e. the time some fucko on a forum told me to scrap my entire style because everything was bad about it and I’d never Ever be good. There might be a time and place for insults, nobody is fully above them, but it’s not the same as “critique” meant to point out what could be improved for the benefit of the artist or audience. A lot of people have an inflated sense of self importance simply due to the fact that they are capable or criticizing something, and carry this incredibly asinine assumption that their ability to point out the flaws in something makes anyone who enjoys it stupider than them. But you can just as easily trawl through their media library and do the same thing, and likely they’ll have the same reaction you do, a defensive “well, I’m aware of these flaws but I like it anyway” the difference is their ego has them convinced than anything that has their mark of approval is high art, vs, you know, whatever trash you like.
