Trying to find my groove again. it's been so long. i'm not unhappy with what i managed. but i'm definitely seeing a ton of stuff i want to fix.
At least I got this. Even if I’ve got a half life, I got to see the stars the way they were meant to be.
Had to paint the window scene from @sightseertrespasser's Odds of Survival part 9 from @keferon's mech au. The scene of Jazz just leaning against the window sucker punched me. And reflecting the stars onto his mech was just something my brain wouldn't let go of.
I haven't done or finished a honest piece of art in a long time now. Needed a fallow time I guess. But this one wouldn't let go. I'm hoping that's a good sign.
It's dirty, awful, tiring work.
But maybe you'll see what I see in spite of the tears and the grit.
Maybe, just maybe we can light the way home.

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.
And I just got confirmation from a second ex-colleague that a deal with midjourney has been brewing since months ago. Not any extra details, just that's a real thing.
Shit, I don't see any way for this to happen that doesn't make it an apocalyptic event the size of the porn ban. Fuck.
Shit. This may be pure chance and coincidence, and it's not he is in a position to be able to talk about anything, but seeing prominent staff members announcing they are moving their original photography out of tumblr just two weeks ago seems a pretty significant cue of shit to be about to hit the fan.
https://www.tumblr.com/support has a feedback category! I don't know if they'll listen, but I think it's a good idea to let them know in no uncertain terms that we are in any way okay with our data/art/writing/work being used.
so, due to a number of rl issues, me and digital art haven't been happening much of late. However, crochet has been a good outlet to keep me from going crazy. I'm almost to the point where I can start drawing regularly again. For now, I've finished one baby blanket, learned beginner level tunisian crochet, and have started a celestial lap blanket that's a combo of two different patterns: Sun Moon and Stars Granny Squares by Alyssa Creates and The Starlite Blanket from TheBurrowUK on Etsy.

Sad to see Redbubble go the way of making shit harder for artists. Art is my hobby. Not my job. I'm not going to spend the time on marketing my art just to reach whatever they've decided is the necessary level to sell my art without fees. I just had it so people could get my work on a sticker or a bag if they wanted. I'm sorry to anyone who might've wanted to buy something from my shop. Maybe in time I'll look at trying to open something somewhere else. But right now I don't have the spoons for it.

A quick how I use Clip Studio's Artistic Filter Tutorial
So, I use this function to take screenshots and do a quick and dirty line art. Or just a very stylistic line art. Mostly I want this if I'm doing something very detailed from FFXIV and want it to be close to the in game appearance.
So, we got ourselves a picture of my Norhi in dramatic lighting. This does work better when you have good contrast and not too many conflicting lines. You'll see what I mean.
So, we find it under Filter>Effect>Artistic
And the default looks like this. As you can see, the preview is showing a fun colored and lined image. The top option in the menu dialogue has options for if you want colors and lines, just colors, or just lines. Today, we're just doing lines.
And here is our default setting preview of just lines. Looking at the staff on the left side there, you can see what I mean about the conflicting lines. But the contrast of the image allows Norhi to be easily picked out from the now absent background. For the rest of this, the last three options are ignored. They're for color images, which we're not worrying about.
Now, I've altered multiple settings to get this. First I reduced line simplicity to it's lowest setting of two. This brought back some of the background. And that's fine. I can erase later if I want.
Then I bumped line density up to 83. I looked at 100 and thought that was too much. So I scaled it back a bit. This also brought back more of the background. But it also pumped up a lot of Norhi's details which I wanted.
I also bumped line opacity to 100. Because I wanted dark lines. And I upped the anti-aliasing, to soften them a little.
Adjust all of these according to what you want your image to do!

I've seen a number of posts on my dash, working to debunk the misinformation and effects of terf ideology. And I just want to say, if you believe that trans people (of any and all persuasion) should be excluded from feminism, the queer community, and protected rights, then you are not the kind of folk I want to be in a community with.

2022 Art!
It's been a low "productivity" year for me art wise. Partly out of a need to rest more. But also just had a big year of other things happening. March is where I was finally able to start putting my art room together, after we moved in late 2021. Because of painting and carpet replacement, mostly. So, there's not a lot of art from early 2022, as a result.
