My final music
Costume designs-
My costumes help represent all three sections with colours and asymmetric and symmetric lines with ragged drapes from the main costume.
The colour white is used to represent heaven, black represents the ash after the car crash and it is also a very neutral colour and the red represents blood and confusion.
Transitions-
I have used loco motor neutral transitions with occasional air movements to travel between sections.
Variety and Contrast-
For variation I used ABA. My main theme was the car crash and then heaven so I added the in-between into the dance to add variation.
Formal Structure
Formal structure: the formal stricter I used in my dance is an ABC structure because all of the sections have a different intent.
A- The car crash.
B- The confusion between being in reality dead or in heaven at peace.
C- Being at peace with your death and going to heaven.
motifs from all sections
Abstraction-
Section three of this dance represents the peaceful confrontation of the girl’s death as she crosses over to heaven for the last time. I use abstraction to represent heaven by using light and gentle movements. This is on a high level to represent angels and flying. So there are a lot of jumps. I use angled arms to represent wings as a motif to represent angels
I use the efforts of flicking, floating and dabbing to represent the effortlessness of heaven and the wings of angels.
Abstraction-
The second section of the dance is representing the confusion of the girl as she is stuck in the in-between and refusing to admit she is dead. She is fighting between death and heaven in this section. I have used abstraction to depict the confusing feelings with strong force as well as vibratory, wringing and sustained movement qualities. I used a splayed hand motif to show the pain and confusion, this movement is sustained and it almost shows frustration
I use gentle balletic movements when she is being dragged towards heaven and heavy sustained movements as she is pulling back to the in-between, as she will not confront her death. As she keeps confronting the scene I use strong collapsing force with the efforts of slashing, wringing and pressing to flash back to the crash scene. This is all on a neutral level.
How my dance reflects the intent-
My dance reflects my intent as the movements I have used express the feelings the girl would be feeling and I have tried my best to achieve accurate portrayal through abstraction of my movements.
Dynamics- movement qualities and efforts
Movement qualities are important throughout dances as it helps to abstractly portray emotions or situations.
Section 1 I used: collapsing, and sustained movement. Section 2 I used: sustained, vibratory and percussive movements. Section 3 I used: swinging, suspended and oozing movements.
Combined with these movements I used Laban’s effort actions to add extra impact to the dance.
Section 1 I used: wringing, punching and slashing. This was to show an abstract version of the car crash. Section 2 I used: pressing, flicking and dabbing. I used to show the confusion between two sections. Section 3 I used: floating and gliding. This I used to show the happiness and freeness of the section.
Dynamics- energy
The whole dance is high energy even though it may not be considered fast I still put the same amount of energy in.
Dynamics- weight
Sections 1 & 2 are heave weighted because it give the effect of falling and dragging which is the feeling I am trying to portray.
Dynamics- force
I use strong force throughout the dance, which shows confusion and anger in the movements that then moves into gentle movements representing the angelic stage of the dance.
Time- Stillness
I use stillness to create suspense of movement, mainly in section 1.
Time- natural rhythms
I use the natural rhythms of heartbeats and car crash noises to keep a variation between the two rhythm types.
Time- duration
The first section uses sustained long movements, the second uses sustained and quick short movements as in the third the movements a medium length. This shows the long pain and process of death at the beginning and then the stress and panic right up until the calm peaceful content feeling that comes from medium movements.
Time- tempo
I use a medium tempo throughout the dance using accents to create suspense and faster rushing feelings instead of tempo changes.
