It’s team Reiss from NCS. We are currently volunteering at the Dance Woking Headquarters. Today we are mending broken equipment in order for them to be used for future events. We are also handing out brochures in Woking Town Centre to help raise awareness.
Tomorrow, Thursday 20th July, we will be campaigning for our charity in and around Woking Town. Look out for our bright green t shirts and come to say hello! We will be having a stall with fun activities, sweets and goodies! We will also have brochures filled with details of social media, upcoming events and the charity itself. At certain points throughout the day there will be special surprises and something for everyone to get involved with. We’d love for you all to come along. Hope to see you there!

We are a group of young people from NCS the Challenge and we were assigned to help raise money and awareness for this inspirational charity, Dance Woking. A professional choreographer, named Bert, taught us a dance to the song Soul Bossa Nova by Quincey Jones. We enjoyed learning this easy and crazy dance which got rid of our inhibitions. On 8th July 2017, we all performed at Party in the Park, teaching and encouraging the public to join in; as well as taking part in other workshops and learning new dances. Throughout this experience we have all gained confidence and now feel that we are able to express our feelings through dance. We have become more aware of how anxiety and depression affects people, especially teenagers like us, and how dancing could be an amazing way to overcome this. As a team we have raised over £200 which will be crucial to help the community and to provide a 6 week session for 1 school in the local area. Many of us hope to provide extra help and support for this charity in the near future as we feel that it has been an eye opening experience that has helped us develop into a more humble group of teenagers.

Dance Woking was my chosen charity for my NCS challenge program. My group were taught a dance by one of the teachers named Amy, this was to get us ready for a performance at Party In The Park 2016. As an inexperienced dancer I found this very eye opening as I become fonder of the dance Woking charity and became more aware of the people I would be raising money for. Learning new dances for events gave me the opportunity to express myself in a way in which I had never considered! I am looking forward to doing extra work for them in the future and as a group we hope to raise more money for their charity.

#ThrowBack - ‘SAFE’ 2015 REVIEW
Here is a review i conducted on ‘SAFE’ back in 2015.
____________________________________________________________________
My first experience when entering the auditorium was that it was pitch black with a little glow of light coming from a bulb positioned at the top centre of the auditorium which created a mysterious atmosphere, we really didn’t know what to expect as we sat there in the dark.
The production started off with 5 men in ragged clothing cramped lift waiting to go up to the top to work on the construction site. I could hear the sound effects of the busy road beneath them. Gradually dim light appears and one by one the men would start dancing to the music which at first was slow but then began to change into a fast beat.
It was an enjoyable feeling watching the contemporary dance pieces as they were unique, it really felt like you were in the 30’s. My favourite dance piece was the Irish dancing it really gave a wonderful touch to the show. During the performances it got very intense as in the music got louder and the dancing got more physical with the props around them and that’s what caught my eyes, the acrobats used in this production.
The men would cling off the ladders and poles which seemed very risky but it really made everything more realistic. The production received great reviews an audience member John commented “absolutely breath-taking”. The production was exceptional, it really was a pleasure to watch because you could see the amount of passion put into this production.
SAFE UK tour continues after Easter.

Dance Woking commences its spring season of events!
22nd February 2016
On Tuesday 15th March ZoieLogic Dance Theatre brings powerful production ‘SAFE’, to Rhoda McGaw Theatre, 7.30pm. ‘SAFE’is set against the imagined backdrop of the Empire State Building. Highly talented dancers take on New York City’s fabled skyline, as they inhabit the dangerous world of the 1930’s construction workers. With a punchy choreographic language driven by a visceral music score, the dancers combine a heady mix of bravery, determination and camaraderie in this heart-racing dance theatre piece.
Zoie Golding was inspired to make the piece after visiting the Empire State Building and wondering what it must have felt like being hundreds of feet up in the air, exposed to the elements, working closely with other men and striving to build each layer on time, on budget and, above all, safely
Saima Khan, Arts and Communication apprentice commented on last year’s ‘SAFE’, “The show was exceptional, it really was a pleasure to watch because you could see the amount of passion put into it. I have never seen any performance like it before, it was different and very touching.”

What Is The State Of Your Empire?
ZoieLogic Dance Theatre presents ‘SAFE’ AT New Victoria Theatre, Woking, 15th March 2016
Set against the imagined backdrop of the 1930’s construction of the Empire State Building, SAFE is a tale of skill and bravery, grit and determination, brotherhood and camaraderie, brought to life by five incredible male dancers. This is a tough world to inhibit, one where there is no room for error, where trust in your compatriots, your fellow ironworkers, is the key to your sanity and survival.
The race is on to be part of history. Deftly navigating their way across iron girders swinging hundreds of feet in the air, literally scaling the dizzy heights, this band of unlikely brothers is part of the race is on to be part of history.SAFE is ZoieLogic Dance Theatre’s thrilling imagining of the daily lives of those ironworkers whose skill and bravery made the Empire State Building a ground-breaking first when, after taking a then record-breaking 410 days to construct, it opened to the public in 1931.
With her signature punchy choreographic style artistic director Zoie Golding explores the intense atmosphere of determination and brotherhood as she leads the audience into a world which pits masculinity against fragility.
A visceral music score envelopes the five-strong male dance company as they move within a specially-designed industrial set made of steel, aluminium and wood that cleverly builds with the performance. Like the Empire State Building itself, SAFE is bursting with ambitious imagination, hope, optimism, collective spirit and the ultimate friendship that only common ground can bring.
Speaking about the piece, Zoie says: “SAFE is a piece about masculinity and brotherhood which draws the audience into the world of determination and male friendship. Along the way they’ll see stories unfold and how competitiveness and bravado lead to a collective spirit and unique friendship. It’s an exciting piece with some surprises along the way.
“We perform SAFE on a really unusual bespoke steel, aluminium and wood set which has been specially designed for this piece; it’s a very exposed set as if we’ve taken a bite out of the Empire State Building and it has a purpose floor, a truss framing (to symbolise the iron girders that were used to build the Empire State) and it has a life of its own that builds as the show progresses. That’s what makes this show completely different.” ZoieLogic Dance Theatre’s SAFE is being performed at New Victoria Theatre, Woking on 15th March 2016.

With seven short exerts to look forward to, Wayne McGregor’s ‘Outlier’ opened, this piece was initially created for New York City Ballet in 2010, it was treat to see the work performed as a contemporary piece. The Argentinian dance duet Julia Hiriart Urruty and Claudio González quickly followed changing the tempo, with their impressive legwork, beautiful choreography, detailing a love affair continuing after death which left the audience in complete awe. The excitement did not finish as we had the pleasure of watching Connor Scott, winner of BBC Young Dancer 2015 perform a contemporary high-energy piece ‘Get Up’, which livened up the theatre.
