Alyssa raised a brow at him, a slight smirk pulling at the corners of her lips. No heart, huh? Not the first time she'd heard that excuse. She tilted her head up a little to look at him, pale eyes studying his face. His features. Expressions.

"The ghouls ain't got hearts either, according to them. But they can speak from the heart just fine. Love just fine. Don't think you're gonna have a problem, Papa." She spoke, the southern drawl almost seeming to smooth her voice. Like velvet.

She straightened back up, glancing at the cards, before looking back up at him. Oh yeah, she'd brought her deck. Just in case. She hummed a little, slowly licking her lips.

"In my early teens. After I lost my parents. It's where my, uh... Spooky abilities started to show. I've been working on them since. Started with the tarot, then moved into more advanced abilities when I got older." She spoke, not really going into too many details. She had many abilities outside of the norm.

Reading tarot cards was just the tip of the iceberg.

"It's nice to know that a wretch like me can find their place here," he says, casting his notebook to the side to rest his elbow on his knee.

As she speaks, he's able to regain his focus a little. In one part of his brain, the gears are turning. In another, he's interested in hearing more about Alyssa.

"It seems to me they left you with a gift, Sister-- something to remember them by." He feels a slight pang as he says it, relating all too-well to growing up without parents. It takes everything for him to not make it about him by congratulating her for not having a long-lost twin who hates her.

He collects his thoughts instead, eyes flicking down to the deck.

"What do you think? Am I worthy for a reading?" he asks sheepishly.

Alyssa let out a smaller huff, that smirk lingering on her lips. She wouldn't call him a wretch, but she understood what he meant. It must have been chaotic for him to be tossed into all of this out of nowhere. Just because the Ministry decided that they needed someone new to take over. She had to wonder if Perpetua had even wanted to become Papa. But that was a conversation for later.

She tilted her head to the side a little, letting out a softer hum. "A gift, huh..? Well, my entire family had dealings with the supernatural, it was just a question of when I'd be dragged into it. But I guess you're right. It was my family's connections that had me crawling out of the wreck, barely injured." She mused, before focusing her pale eyes back on him.

A reading, was it? She wouldn't have thought that he'd be interested in that, but she didn't mind. She straightened up a little, opening the bag on her belt to pull out her cards. Her most trusted deck. "Sure, Papa. Anything specific you wanna know about?"

Alyssa didn't pay much mind to his laugh. She didn't know him enough to know why he found that remark humorous, but at least he could relax enough to laugh around her. Of course, she knew that they had to be formal towards one another. She was but a Sister of Sin, and he was Papa. No matter how one twisted and turned it, she was to be polite.

She carefully opened the drink he'd offered her, taking a smaller sip, before she glanced at him. One brow raised slightly, her head tilting to the side. He wasn't allowed to write his own songs? But.. All of the other Papas had. Why couldn't he? What an odd circumstance. She filed that piece of information away for later. She would probably ask about it at some point.

For now, she focused of the task at hand, leaning closer to look at the page. Her perfume became more apparent as she did. It was light, not too overwhelming. Vanilla and caramel. Almost akin to baked goods. Quite the pleasant scent, really.

"Well.. Speaking from the heart is always the best." She hummed, pointing her lips some. "They love you already. The siblings. They want to get to know you. I know that the sermons have to revolve around the teachings of The Olde One. But maybe you could try and weave in a few things about yourself." She offered. She didn't know if that would be useful at all, but she would try and help if she could.

Indeed, her scent is almost enough to overpowering. Luckily, working with thousands of people in the same room has allowed him to practice grounding himself. One satanic nun's sweet perfume mixed with perspiration, pheromones, and heat should do little to distract him... From the task at hand...

What is it she just said?

He blinks slowly, trying to recreate her lip-movements in his head to construct something that sounds like a response to whatever she's talking about...

"From the heart, you say?" he flashes her a grin. "I'm afraid I don't have a heart, Sister."

He tries to collect himself a little, running his fingertips under the straps of his mask to scratch at his scalp.

Spotting the deck of cards from Alyssa's belt strikes an idea in him. No doubt, someone like her possesses great will, with the ability to divine the paths laid out for them. That's a skill as much as it is eclectic. Perhaps there's a lesson in that.

"When did you learn to divine, Sister?"

The petite woman couldn't conceal a smaller snort at his remark. Truly, she could relate. An uninteresting space didn't exactly spur motivation. This was cozy. It felt more like a personal, little cave than an office. It was inviting, even. To be honest, she could see herself relaxing in there. In any way, it was definitely more interesting than the dusty, old library she worked at.

She hummed some, slender fingers closing around the drink offered to her. "You remembered. Sweet and fruity, just how I like it." She spoke, finally moving to take a seat by him on the floor. Did this give him a better look at her slender legs? Yes. Did she give a fuck? No. That was just how their habits happened to look. Plus, she didn't fancy tripping on her skirt when she got back up.

Pale, green eyes settled on the man next to her, observing his movements. He seemed more awkward off the stage than on it, she found. Not that she considered that a bad thing. Maybe he had simply not figured out how to merge his true self and his stage persona yet. Not that it was any of her business.

She cleared her throat some as she pulled her legs up, sitting sideways on her assigned pillow. "So, Papa. What are we working on tonight?"

Her 'sweet and fruity' remark gets a laugh from him, and he refrains from making a joke that may come off as insensitive to someone who knows little about his history. Maybe one day he'll open up to Alyssa about that, but for now, he'll keep his air of decorum.

Still, he appreciates that she can be comfortable around him. Without the robes and stupid hat, he feels more like himself. The heavy makeup and mask make him appear in photos and in the mirror; the creature they call "Papa" is a simulacrum of his true self.

Mostly.

His sense of humor does tend to win over on stage.

However, performance is far from his mind at present. He's absolutely dreading the empty page that stares back at him.

"Well, Sister, it seems that even though the Ministry won't let me write my own songs, I'm still responsible for preparing sermons for black mass. It's not something that comes easy to me. I don't really like talking at people. I don't think I have much to say that would resonate universally... y'know?"

He's scribbling a small, black 'x' in the corner of his notepad while he chats with her. Eventually he'll have to focus, but this is exactly the type of company he's been needing.

But she had to admit that it had her more intrigued than if it had just been an office. Her eyes settled on the lava lamp for a moment, before she finally stepped inside once prompted, pushing the door behind her shut, before allowing herself to be guided inside.

She had one of those as well. A lava lamp. An older one she'd once found at a thrift store. She would archive this discovery in her mental folder of useless information about the other. After all, they were still at a stage where they were slowly getting to know each other.

She cleared her throat some, pale eyes glancing around the room. It seemed less formal like this. Just as he had noted himself. An odd choice, really, but not one se was against. After all, she was there to provide company while Papa worked. Maybe it would be a day of silence, maybe it wouldn't. Only time would really be able to tell.

Finally, green orbs settled on the other, her head titling to the side a little. "My pleasure, Papa." She'd hum, offering him a smaller smile. "Can confidently say that I ain't ever seen an office like this before. But yeah, it works. I ain't fussy." She noted, shrugging one shoulder slightly. She generally didn't have any bodily issues, so sitting on the floor was fine for her, if not a bit odd. Adding to the already surreal experience.

But maybe this, new Papa was different from the others.

He chuckles. “I think the more I see it as an office, the less it makes me want to do anything.”

Pulling a soda from his refrigerator, he hands it to Sister Alyssa before folding himself onto the cushion with his stuff. He’s not a tall man, but he’s all leg, and he supposes he appears as spindly as a spider as he adjusts himself.

“If I recall correctly, you like strawberry, is that right Sister?”

Settling in his new place on the floor, he watches Alyssa, scanning for any signs on her that she might want to be anywhere but here. True to her word, she is much less fussy than the other siblings he’s interacted with so far, but he’s more than willing to accommodate his guest however she needs. She’s doing him a favor after all.

What an odd situation to be in, she thought, as she left her room after having allowed herself some time to freshen up a little. Working in the greenhouse all day had left her a little sweaty. Yes, she had left her duties a tad early, much to the matron's dismay, but once she had explained that Papa himself had called on her, not another word had been mentioned about the issue. She could get used to that.

As always, she was wearing her usual habit and veil. Her favored stockings with the elegant, blue trim, her Dr. Martens boots, and naturally, her dainty, uranium glass grucifix dangling around her neck. She was sporting her usual, dark, smoky eyeshadow look, having it paired with a black-painted upper lip and a burgundy lower lip. She liked to play around with her makeup, honestly. When she had time.

Around her waist, a silver-clasped belt cinched her in nicely, and attached to said belt was a bigger pouch. Black, with a symbol embossed in silver on the front. Her tarot cards. Just in case those might be of interest, or she felt compelled to pull a few cards. One never knew, right?

She cleared her throat as she approached the office, reaching out to knock on the door a few times before pushing it open, just enough for her to peek inside.

"Good afternoon, Papa. May I come in?" She'd question, offering him a polite nod, accompanied by a smaller smile. She found that it was for the best to keep things formal. After all, he was Papa, and they barely knew each other. The last thing she wanted was to act out of turn and land herself in some kind of trouble.

Of course, some more adjustments will have to be made to get the office just how he wants it, but who said anything about staying in Italy permanently? Eventually he'll want to move on.

Still, he makes a sudden adjustment with the desk, dragging it off to the side, and allows for two plush cushions to be the focal point of the room. This is more comfortable. Casual. It will help him think.

A southern lilt pulls him from his concentration, and it's welcomed. He smiles under his mask, turning around.

"Sister Alyssa!" he guides her in. "Glad you could make it. Sorry, you've caught me doing a little redecorating. The desk felt too formal, don't you think? I hope this works. Again, I really appreciate the company."

He considers for a moment that the arrangement won't do for the nun. What if her knees are bad, and it's better for her to sit on a chair. She is a dancer, after all.

He pushes down the nagging thought that he can simply compel her to be accepting of his whims. That's not why he's asked for her company. Furthermore, he's getting much better at keeping those impulses in check. He's no longer a fledgling. He's in control of his affliction. Mostly.

Having a makeshift office at the Italian ministry is a nice bonus. He doubts his twin would allow him such a luxury in London or LA, so he is perfectly content to stumble through a language he barely knows while he lies low here.

It's not the only reason he's sticking around, though. His new friend has been on his mind lately, and he's looking forward to having someone around who is less concerned about his little circus act, and is more interested in knowing who he really is. Whether or not he is able to be forthcoming with his true self is a different matter, but it's the sentiment behind it.

He invited her over, as they had discussed, to be a companion while he wrote. Sister Alyssa's stories amuses and inspires him, and he's grateful to have a second pair of eyes and ears to get him out of his own head.

He hopes she won't mind the relatively late hour. It's 4pm, and he has his blackout curtains drawn. To make up for the dour atmosphere, he's lit a cheery lava lamp he found (are those still cool?), and stocked a mini fridge with strawberry-flavoured sodas that he thought she might like.

His laptop sits closed on his desk, with his preferred spiral notebook on top of it. It's opened on a page of his messy scrawling, legible only to himself, he imagines.

The office door is ajar, as he is anticipating her arrival.
