@dancing-eel-gulper
probably one of my favourite one piece gags
I like to think that, after so many years of either not using or avoiding her devil fruit powers, Gulper sometimes uses the more subtle parts of her power without realizing it before she actually goes out to see and she just thinks it’s normal. Like yeah, you know when you touch a pot of salt water and it’s suddenly completely desalinated? That’s so crazy. How do people ever run out of water?
bleeding heart
she’s thinking about archeology
Was trying to figure out my older strawhat designs for a comic and got carried away
Redraw of my rock and ground type Eeveelutions
Smileon: Rock type, evolves by using a fossilized Eevee tooth
Arideon: Ground type, evolves after using sandstorm 30 times
Piece I'm not sure if I'll ever finish lol
I imagine the crew got invited to a "feast" that ended up just being a boring cocktail party

A really big thing about Gulper is that she’s used to being outwardly very polite, but at her core is basically a joyfully vulgar delinquent. Madame Tespos taught her to be well mannered around guests and she’s very well-versed in expected formalities. As soon as her guard is down, though, she’s somewhat slovenly and brash. The main way this culminates is that she often feels the impulse to have to sneak around when she wants to do anything impolite even though everyone on the ship is fully aware that she does it and nobody cares because she’s literally part of a pirate crew. She’ll spend the night drinking with everyone and then a few days later sneak off to drink in secret like a teenager trying not to get caught just purely out of habit.
The other way this habit presents itself is that Gulper will often be almost excessively polite to strangers- even if they’re enemies. She’ll also act completely mortified when her crewmates are ill mannered in an inappropriate situation. It’s sometimes confusing to guests on the ship or new allies who initially thought she was incredibly polite and withdrawn when she quickly gets comfortable with them and lets loose.
Gulper’s often well-liked by older people (at least at first) not just because of her manners but also because being raised for many years by a very old woman acquainted her with many hobbies, interests and mannerisms that are stereotypical to the elderly
More on Sanji and his struggle to get Gulper to enjoy indulging in food (and other consumables) again, I think maybe the thing that snaps her out of it is that he starts researching traditional Fishman dishes thinking maybe that will help and accidentally stumbles onto something that Mottle used to make for her girls. Sanji being Sanji he would probably make some really excellent and exciting dishes that Gulper would eat to be polite but clearly not be comfortable with, but then when he’s all dejected and sort of casually using the leftovers to make a stew to avoid wasting anything that’s when he’d hit the mark. Mottle, an escaped slave hiding out mostly underwater with very little to work with, she probably had to make do with scraps from the island and whatever random fish she could catch for a while. Sanji’s basically just making it for himself because he wants the crew to get all of the good stuff when Gulper catches a whiff and comes in to ask for some- which is huge because she NEVER actually asks for food. And it’s not just like her mom used to make because there was never any real recipe, but it still tastes just like home. The taste of something made with love from the bits no one else really wanted. Which really ends up working out. Sanji finally gets to make sure all his crewmates are fed properly, Gulper feels secure in knowing that what she’s eating isn’t going to be missed by anyone else and the rest of the crew doesn’t get scolded for not wanting to eat the “gross” bits. And of course he sneaks a lot of good stuff in there, too. Making sure it’s nutritionally balanced and also kind of letting Gulper indulge in a cheeky way that feels more comfortable for her.
He’d probably “accidentally” trim a little bit too much off a cut of meat or drop something on the floor which he totally cleaned in advance for the bit. And of course everyone knows their highly skilled chef isn’t actually that clumsy, but they’ll still make tongue-in-cheek comments about how he oughta throw it away so he can argue and declare that he’ll just have to use it for something else. Gulper would still feel a little uneasy knowing fully well that it was all just for show, but seeing everyone joining in just to make sure she stays for the meal would be enough for her to push past it.
Zoro & Choppa
I like to think that Gulper was sort of a klepto when she first moved in with Madame Tespos. Like not really on purpose, but she’d never really had neighbors before and just kind of took stuff she thought was cool from people’s houses while working as a maid. I mean it’s not really her fault. She grew up underwater collecting stuff from ship wrecks, plus her dad’s literally a pirate. It’s an honest misunderstanding. And of course Madame Tespos would make a big deal of scolding Gulper in front of the people she stole from, but then she’d be like “The trick is to only take small things and only a little bit at a time. That way they won’t notice right away.” Just like totally encouraging it and being a bad influence.
So then years later as quarter master, Gulper has a habit of taking a small “tax” from everything while she’s doing her rounds taking stock. And it’s literally just like stale food and other stuff no one would miss, but it’s just instinct. Cutting the corners off moldy cheese, drinking the last few drops out of booze bottles, drying out soggy cigarettes to smoke later. She’d probably get caught one day and not even understand why it’s weird.
And I mean after being stranded and watching her old crew die off, it’s probably a little bit of a guilt thing, too. Not wanting to take “too much” and instead basically just living off of crumbs and garbage by choice. Sanji would probably be the only one who understands, but it would still stress him the hell out knowing one of his crew mates was licking old candy wrappers and dirty butter knives while also being “too busy” to eat dinner. I think that would end up being a huge hurdle for the two of them. Sanji understanding where she’s coming from while also trying to teach her that it’s okay to use resources that she very much had a part in procuring.

there really is an effect where if you like your oc enough you will forget that their name is completely absurd until its too late and youve already introduced them proudly
