Class tonight, 7.30pm - 8.30pm at VIDA Health and Fitness Club - Kidlington
yI am teaching tonight at VIDA Health and Fitness Club in Kidlington. 7.30pm - 8.30pm! Come along as I have chosen asana’s that get you beach body ready! £6 for all abilities!
Namaste (:
The graceful yogi!
So I participate in a lot of yoga challenges on instagram, not for the prizes or to compete but to keep myself motivated and try out new things! Like crazy asana's like this! This asana is called Super Soldier! It's a great hip opener, strengthens your legs and works on your balance!
When I looked at this pose I could not work out how it was possible to even get into it! Rather than watching tutorials I thought I'd work it out for myself. I'm so glad I did because it was so comical. My mum (fellow yogi) was sat in the garden with me and my dogs were completely baffled by what I was doing.
Yoga is calm, graceful, strong and peaceful.. this moment however was exciting, hilarious, messy and real! I love yoga because it can be both, it's not always about how graceful you are! Yoga brings me so much joy. It's something I can do with my mum, it keeps me calm and grounded and sometimes just makes me laugh! When I was trying to get into this pose it was like playing twister, I got tangled, I almost fell over and I was all twisted! When I finally managed it my puppy decided the mat was his.. and clearly thought I was taking up far too much space!
Here is a preview of what I was working on for my final performance for my BA (Hons) Dance Degree! This is one small section of a project of bringing the off stage on stage. The rest of the show was produced by exploring everything that happens in preparation for a performance and behind the scenes. My solo was created to portray the emotional journey of a student and the battle of leaving home. This section comes before the ‘curtains open’ for the real performance. I will be gradually posting more sections of the performance and some real back stage interviews!
The things that make you smile!
This is my favourite yoga video of all time. Yoga is supposed to be practiced in a calm and peaceful environment. But sometimes we have to fit it into our busy lives in order to stay calm and peaceful.
When Teddy was a puppy he used to follow me everywhere and just constantly want to lick you! (He still follows everywhere but doesn't lick quite so much). He also glues himself to my yoga mat and won't get off unless I give him his very own to lay on!
Dancers Block!
I have exactly 10 days until my final university dance performance! My choreography is not going well! Some people might wander why I’ve left it so late but I haven’t! I choreographed a solo a couple of months ago and I am just not happy with it at all. I’m not connected to the dance so I won’t perform it to my best ability.
So I started from scratch a week ago. I have changed songs at least 7 times and re-choreographed too many times to count. I looked to the books for inspiration but there is nothing I have read that has given me any sort of idea at all!
I am a dance student not a choreography student, I never appreciated how difficult it is to produce a dance that has meaning until now. I never thought dancing could give me a head ache… But it sure did prove me wrong!

Day 31
Day 31 of #backbendmadness2014 and it's all over 😟 have loved this challenge, a first of many! Thought I would put this one up because when I'm home my yoga mat gets taken over! Arnie did child's pose with me today ☺️ he's such a cute boy. Thank you to the inspiring yoga girls@beachyogagirl @kinoyoga @fitqueenirene and the sponsor @liquidoactive for a wonderful journey!
Day 30
I've been working on my handstands for a long time now. I am definitely improving but like everything it's taking time. I have found through yoga more strength, flexibility and balance and I'm so grateful for it. It has taught me how important it is to keep going (even when you do fall and hurt yourself like I did earlier) but I changed to a bigger base (a tree) and put on a new pair of leggings and tried again (:
Day 30 of #backbendmadness2014 I can do scorpion with a wall/tree but this was a bit of a small base to use. At one point I actually missed the post and took a bit of a tumble. My leg is a bit scraped and my leggings need a good wash. But sometimes we need to take tumbles to learn. I wish I had it on film. At least it made @mrbeermannlaugh :P
Day 29
Day 29 of #backbendmadness2014 there is something so serene about doing yoga in the garden, with the sunlight shining behind you. During sun salutation when I would push back into downward dog, the sunlight would warm my face. I didn't realise till after but my mouth is open cause I was telling my camera lady @ginprim when to take the photo "now!" Ahaha. Yoga truly is a healer. It's so important to stay positive through hard times in life. "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start again and make a new ending"- Maria Robinson.
Day 28
Day 28 of #backbendmadness2014 dropping into Urdvha Dhanurasana. I have been able to do this since I was a kid. I can't remember not being able to. But when I started reading the comments about how scary it is I panicked. I said "I don't know if I can do this" and my mum said "what are you on about you always do it!" I suddenly though oh yeah! But then having this cute fella behind you has got to be the best reward. Neither of the dogs would leave my mat alone.
Day 28 of #backbendmadness2014 coming home means being attacked by this cute puppy. I really didn't think I would even do my challenge as things have changed. But I dedicated myself to this challenge and I can't give up. There's nothing more therapeutic than being licked in the face by a puppy.
Day 27
Day 27 of #backbendmadness2014 this was my best splits handstand. I've progressed so much since last year. It's so important to persevere, it can get tiring, mentally as well as physically learning something. With handstands you have to prepare in so many ways, developing strength, balance, flexibility so it takes time. Sometimes I get very frustrated especially since I have been doing this for around a year now and thought I would be there already. But I will keep going because I am improving!
Day 26
Day 26 #backbendmadness2014 I can't balance without the wall. But hopefully this will build a foundation to practice with. My Mickey Mouse leggings make me smile (:
Day 25
Day 25 of #backbendmadness2014 the sun decided not to shine for this one. When I was younger I was always better at what we would call 'box splits' (body facing forward) I worked hard at the splits this way and neglected the other so I'm now trying to find balance. I don't like having a better side, but it's always the way.
Day 24
Day 24 of #backbendmadness2014 and I am SOOO happy. One reason is because my dissertation is getting there! But mostly because of this pose. I've danced since I was 3, and in class this was my signature pose! I was always called an elastic band because I was so bendy, I used to touch my toes to my nose in this position. I started to lose it and at the beginning of this challenge I was close but not close enough. Because of this beautiful challenge I got there again! My toes were reunited with my forehead! Now I'm all nostalgic 😄 thank you so much to @beachyogagirl @kinoyoga@fitqueenirene @liquidoactive for inspiring me.
Day 23
Day 23 of #backbendmadness2014 Eka Pada Kapotasana or one legged king pigeon posture. Had a long day in the library today and managed to fit my yoga in before dinner. What I like most about this challenge is how it's been extra motivation for doing my yoga everyday. It's good to have a break and allowing yourself time to rest and let the body heal. It's safe to say I won't be doing yoga everyday of my life but I will make more time for it because through this challenge I have seen how much yoga I can fit in and how good it makes me feel everyday so thank you to the sponsors for inspiring and motivating me @beachyogagirl @kinoyoga@fitqueenirene @liquidoactive
Day 22
Day 22 of #backbendmadness2014 Kapotasana, or king pigeon pose. I genuinely didn’t think I would be able to do this one. I worked really hard on making sure I was warm before hand. I was kneeling and seconds before I did this I said “I won’t be able to do this, I may not survive this” (jokingly of course) and with that I went back into it with ease. Now I know I can do this pose I’m going to work hard on getting my elbows nearer my feet.
Beauty - is it a product of the imagination?
We are bombarded by the latest beauty products and these new fantastic things they can do for us. ‘Get rid of your wrinkles!’ … ‘No more blemishes!’ … ‘Flawless complexion’ … ‘No more dark circles!’. But does it really do what it says on the tin?
Some women, (and even some men) run to the shops to get the the latest moisturiser, foundation or concealer. But are we really doing our skin any good? With the chemicals, parabins and toxins in the products are we really removing wrinkles and dark circles? I question, if we begin to try these products in the hopes that they’ll work. After a week or two you might not see an obvious result so you take a break. Then you notice your ‘flaws’ more so than before. Your dark circles are darker, your wrinkles are worse, so you think that it must work as it’s more noticeable since I stopped using it.
Do these products, filled with chemicals and toxins make our skin worse, so we have to turn to these products? My beauty regime used to be a baby wipe and some water to take off my make up. My make up consists of; Mascara, (on a special occasion eyeliner), concealer and some blush.
I have tried and tested many products. My skin occasionally feels dry and sometimes looks washed out. So I read the bottle of a foundation or look at a moisturiser and it’s ‘benefits’ and I think “that sounds nice!”. I fork out an painful amount of money for this junk and start using it and what happens?
Let me start with Nivea moisturiser. When I first came to uni I thought I would try out a sensitivebasic moisturiser on the occasion to stop dry skin. I then noticed all the skin around the edge of my nose peeling away, it was red and blotchy and it stung! It in fact dried my skin out more. After a week or two it healed, that pot was in the bin!
Garnier BB Cream! Well I thought it sounded nice and I don’t like foundation. I thought, BB cream would be a light gentle solution, tinted moisturiser for a night out or a special evening with my boyfriend wouldn’t hurt? I wore it a few times and started to notice spots. But the cream had been clogging my skin up and causing spots and irritation. It joined the moisturiser in the bin.
Now I know that since I have sensitive skin and I don’t like these products I should just not use one right? Well no, some products, gentle enough and with the right ingredients are healthy for you. But like anything it’s in modification.
Skin care
Liz Earle
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Hot Cloth Cleanser (top left)
Liz Earle products are completely organic. No parabins! I have been using these since christmas (as a student the only time I can get nice products are christmas!).
You can buy a starter pack for £14.75 which comes with two muslin cloths (naturally made cloth thats gentle on your skin). This product exfoliates the skin and is a great gentle way to take off your make up at the end of the day. It leaves your face free of any make up, dirt or residue, smells amazing and is so refreshing!
Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser (center)
After using your hot cloth cleanser the next step is this gorgeous moisturiser! It is gentle, light and leaves your skin feeling soft and fresh. I have had no bad reactions either! So I must be allergic to parabins!
Manuka Doctor
Manuka Doctor, apiclear Blemish Cream
Manuka Doctor is made out of Manuka Honey and Bee Venom. All natural ingredients. Manuka honey has been tested and proven to be healing.
Earlier this year I was unwell and came up in a horrible rash allover my face which then turned into impetigo. After this I was so scared to use any products on my face. It took a while to heal and is still healing now. Occasionally I will get little pink blemishes where the rash was. I ordered a free test kit, which this product came in and I was hooked! I already noticed my blemishes disappearing and my skin returning back to how it used to be.
I bought a small tube of this from Super Drug for £6.99 which is very cheap and I love it!
Manuka Doctor, apinourish Rejuvinating Face Mask
I tried out the face mask from the tester kit. You put it on for half an hour, which is a nice treat once in a while. The mask isn’t obvious when on and it doesn’t harden to the extent that it hurts to move. I felt it tingling a little but it was a nice light feeling. After taking it off my skin smelt great, felt so soft and was glowing. Unfortunately it’s £34 for a pot from Superdrug which I can’t afford. Then again my birthday is coming up soon! ;)
Eye care
Liz Earle Eyebright
This is a nice gentle lotion. You put a tiny spot of it on your cotton wool and wipe gently at the eyes. Sometimes I use it on early mornings when my eyes feel tired, or to take off my make up in the evenings. Either way my eyes feel refreshed after.
Liz Earle Daily Eye Repair
This is good for dark circles. Whilst wearing it, it reflects the light making the dark circles less obvious. I also see a slight improvement on my dark circles.
Hair care
Argan Oil of Morocco, Shampoo
This shampoo smells AMAZING, forget herbal essences. I get excited to use this shampoo in the mornings. I have never seen my hair so soft and shiny!
Argan Oil of Morocco, Penetrating Oil
A pea size amount of this gorgeous oil on damp, towel dried hair is all it takes. If you use heat on your hair and struggle with split ends this will be a great fix! I used to damage my hair daily but I realised that avoiding heat and straightening is the best thing for your hair. But this just adds a beautiful shine and soft texture to your style. It also influences curls and volume.
My best product I would say is my yoga. Although I use these products, not everyday as everything is good in moderation, I believe most in my practice. It gives life to my hair and a glow to my skin. Along side a healthy diet (with the daily treat, I am not against chocolate or sweets!) you will see an improvement with everything, including your nails. One thing I get asked the most is how I get my nails so strong and healthy. I recommend yoga!
