Dair appreciation week 3: Day 7

The reason why i still love them:

Okay so the ‘still’ probably doesn’t count for me, seeing as i’m a pretty new fan of gossip girl. I began watching it on Netflix during the summer. Honestly, at the time i wasn’t very invested, i just wanted some pure, mindless entertainment to fill up the long dull hours and it was perfect for that. 

I remember being vaguely interested in Chuck and Blair at the beginning, not interested enough to pursue fanfiction or the fandom or anything, but certainly it was more explosive and fiery than anything else going on. (The rest apart from anything ~Blair~ was pretty insipid) Though that line when he compared her to a horse had my mouth hanging open “rode hard and put away wet” that is literally so fowl i can’t believe that aired!!!

Then blah blah blah Chuck and Blair become a complete and utter car crash, more entertaining and insipid story lines and then DAIR HAPPENED!!

I remember the hallway scene of course and thinking ooooh interesting, but i wasn’t invested at the time.

When Dan fell for Blair i was sooo hooked. He loved Blair the way, in my opinion, Blair deserved to be loved. 

At the beginning of the show the writers made this big deal of pitting Blair and Serena against each other and Serena was always coming out on top bc she was more beautiful or nice or whatever and it was completely unrealistic to me. I mean maybe i’m biased or whatever but Blair was just (and i’m not a fan of pitting girls against each other in anyway but just given the writers fixation on it) so so so much more interesting, and flawed and tragic and beautiful and i could go on. So when Dan falls in love with Blair and poor ol’ Serena becomes pretty redundant idk it was kind of cathartic for me.

Also what was with all the Dan and Blair parallels from the off set??

both had a best friend just suddenly up and leave

both had parents in the midst of divorce/separation

both desperate to get into their desired Ivy League

both in love with someone who doesn’t love them back

both extremely EXTREMELY isolated and lonely

both basically soulmates wtf???

Annnyway when season five happened and all those little kisses and the pining and dedicated love, it had me watching the scenes over and over before continuing the episode and squealing (squealing!!) not to mention i was just biding my time before catapulting myself into the dair fandom and fanfiction and everything else the internet had to offer!!!

Basically Dan and Blair made the entire show for me!!!

I love them because Blair deserved Dan. Blair Waldorf broke my heart bc she had no idea how amazing she was, she was so insecure underneath all her bravado and she needed someone like Dan who just loved her irrevocably. I love them because that’s the kind of relationship i would like to have. I love them because they are nauseatingly romantic (Dan wrote a book about her, probably ten more followed lbr!!!) It’s just gorgeous. I just love them so so much :’)
