Hope da railway workers get everything they want. Autists the country over should stand with them
Yeah I was thinking on this today:
Considering that the rail system is an integral logistical piece in pretty much every facet of US society, how can we support them in the event of a strike?
Not to say that I don’t want to, but like, people gotta eat and get gas.
Reframe it as the problem of the employers and not the workers. The workers aren’t why you can’t get food, the bosses are! Redirect people’s understandable fear and rage at a useful and reasonable target
not only are rail workers treated like absolute shit with 30 days off a year (that they can't schedule) and no sick leave but the rail companies are trying to move trains from a two person crew to a one person crew thereby doubling the workload. this is a terrible idea since driving trains (especially modern super long trains) is really hard and having an extra person to do other tasks and help out with paperwork is very useful. however, it will save the rail companies lots of money which will then be passed on to shareholders. this isn't just about benefits and sick days it's about ensuring the safety of railways, trains, and the things around them.
here's a great article on the topic for the geeks out there
if you have Norton Antivirus or Norton VPN, delete the software ASAP.
Norton is automatically installing and running a cryptocurrency mining program in the backgrounds of their users. There is no text box asking to confirm the use of this program and is installed automatically, it runs during “downtime” on your computer . While the official announcement said that this program was exclusive to the US, international users are reporting it as well. We don’t know the exact scope yet.
To delete this program, must go into the files (Program Files/Norton) and delete the file NCrypt.exe. It will ask for the admin permission. (Some report having admin permissions on their computer but being unable to delete the program.) If the software is already downloaded to your computer, I would NOT recommend continuing to use Norton, as there is no guarantee that the .exe file won’t return in another update.
Tell your friends and family, reblog, spread this, please. It’s barely been getting any attention, and I worry that Norton is setting a precedent that other companies will repeat. However, if a large (or very vocal) part of the userbase continues to complain, it may make Norton or other companies think twice before mining crypto on your computer.
Confirmed on Norton's website 1/4/22.
This was trialed in their early access program in June of last year, and is now included with all subscriptions.
Don't want to mine cryptocurrency? You should use a different antivirus.
Windows Defender is actually pretty good last I checked.
...UGH. :/
May I offer as a superior alternative:
- Avira
Basic free version works on both phone and computer. One year package starts at $15. The bundles tend to be a hair pricey but the coverage is genuinely good.
- Hitman Pro
Specifically destroys malware and mining software. Sadly, it is not free, but a 1yr plan is $25 which isn’t bad.
UPDATE: According to a Norton customer service rep, the crypto feature is “integral to the software running properly” and cannot be manually disabled. Norton has now blocked any method of manually disabling the feature, and has deleted several posts outlining how to do so.
The only way to remove the feature is to uninstall Norton.
“Norton also takes a sizable cut of the cryptocurrency once it is mined. The company takes 15% off the top as well as variable transaction fees when you move the crypto to a different wallet.”
It apparently can be turned off (if you know anything about fucking around inside software), but I’m more concerned in how they’re using their customers to just take extra money off the top.

#i know people have started criticizing the#‘men are afraid of getting laughed at women are afraid of getting killed’#but this is real?
Oh, yes.
A few years ago I went to pick up a woman I met on OKCupid for a date, and a friend of hers was there. They kind of over-explained “Oh, she just showed up to say hi” and there was a vague nervousness in the air that even my autistic ass was picking up on. Her friend was playing conspicuously with her phone. I went “Ah, the safety. Need to get a picture?”
Dead silence for about a second and a half, then the friend took a picture, looked at my date, and said “Have fun” and walked out the door.
(I would ordinarily have been clueless, but I’d just been asked to be the safety the previous night.)
My advice to male-presenting folks: recognize that this not your problem. By which I mean, this sort of security check isn’t a problem for you. It doesn’t hurt you. You aren’t being insulted or disrespected. And if you treat it like what it is– a reasonable adaptation to an unreasonable situation– and just roll with it, your dates will be more comfortable, and you will have a better time as a result.
The same applies to phone calls mid-date. Let them answer the damn phone without drama.
They aren’t accusing you of being a dangerous person. The very fact that they are willing to go on a goddamn date with you means that they have extended a certain level of trust. But the fact remains that there isn’t really a way to distinguish between “a man who isn’t dangerous” and “a man who knows how to behave like he’s not dangerous.”
Yes, because the other guy tried to overturn our democracy. Get a fucking grip.
Also worth mentioning that he's not like just saying this. Its been a year and every attempt at a federal policy has been blocked by Republican judges. There is no federal solution left, thanks in part to Trump's appointees and their vendetta and the active attempt by Republicans to prolong the pandemic and run on the fact that it hasn't ended yet.
To everyone who wants Biden just to ignore federal law and the way our government is set up: do you want tyranny? Because that's how you get tyranny.
The U.S. president has a lot of power, but he can't nullify court decisions and he can't ignore congress, and we don't want the office to be able to do so.
Hey! So this was a partial quote. And a huge actual misquote. Biden had a call with ALL the governors to talk about the role states have to play in curbing COVID. Things like providing testing sites, promoting the boosters - stuff like that. He actually didn't just say "your prob" and jump on out of there. Because like it or not, it's been well established by the courts that the states have the ultimate authority over mandates for public health. The feds can make money available, but the states have to do the work. Can we please make it a rule to actually Google what someone said if it seems like a post was designed to just make you made and react?
self-reblogging to add: hey remember how it was, like, a proven fact that people were intentionally coming into liberal spaces to convince us all the options were bad and we shouldn't vote? remember how that was a huge issue in the 2016 election?
OP is doing exactly that.
always be super fucking wary of anyone trying to convince you to just nope out of the political process.
they are not your friends.
they are are trying to suppress your vote.
No offense but the internet gives you the most wrong and fucked up idea of helping people because people get mad if you don’t care about disasters happening in 72 countries, meanwhile the people in real life that are doing the most good picked one VERY SPECIFIC thing to care about and care about it REALLY HARD
Walks up to a guy working on restoring a native tree species to his downtown “why aren’t you posting about grasses in Turkmenistan!”
The internet has taken a whole generation of bright, motivated, passionate young people who care and have big hearts and turned them into paralyzed, shattered wrecks too crushed by the weight of the world’s pain to hand a pair of socks to a person in need
good morning sickos let's get this child labor
"people are realizing during the pandemic we are not offering adequate compensation and working conditions and there are strikes all around the world, clearly the answer is not to take this into account, but just employ more children"
Call your fucking representatives and threaten to vote them out no matter what if they don’t do something to stomp this into the ground.
-Admin
8 hour work days are now a minimum not a maximum, and frequently exceeded.
Child labour is creeping back in at the edges.
Workers are not being allowed to sit, or drink water, or take proper breaks.
Signs point to another labour movement being necessary, and those signs are "the exact things that caused the last labour movement."

Old dude came in the shop and when I said "lemme know if you have any questions" he goes "what was the name of Alexander the Great's horse," thinking he was so funny. I told him Bucephalus, and he was so disappointed. Like his whole day was hanging on beating me at trivia. He says "you're only the second person who knew that" and I said "well, probably the third if you count Alexander the Great." He left without buying anything, and did not say goodbye. I think I honestly hurt his weird little feelings! Sorry I'm a bitch, old man!
not to get political but im begging you guys to stop coming to hawaii. in maui theyre asking to put a ‘pause’ on flights bc we literally do not have enough room or staff to service you. the roads are so full that its causing a major backup when ppl need to get to work.
on top of this, i heard that by September? theyre expecting to get rid of the mask rule (if 70% of ppl are vaccinated/all goes well) but ill be honest w/ you, i know many locals arent getting the vaccine and i know plenty of tourist arent gonna take the necessary precautions.
homeless hawaiians aren’t even allowed to sit or lay on sidewalks to keep up the “paradise” image for tourists
“Hawai‘i has the highest rate of homelessness per capita among the 50 states” (another source)
do you remember when zuckerburg bought hawaiian land in kauai? then filed lawsuits agasint families that lived their? that land BELONGS to the natives and its extremly harmful to the community.
at this very moment, hawaii is one of the most EXPENSIVE places to live on top of not having a liveable minimum wage ($10.10) this is why many children still live w/ their parents (+ having no space) in order to SURVIVE here, youd have to work full time for at least $15.50 (more links)
in this article it states that “The Living Wage Calculator from the MIT says that one adult in Honolulu needs to make $16.59 per hour for a living wage. If that is a couple with 2 children, each adult needs to make $17.70 per hour.”
everything is more EXPENSIVE; food, household appliances, clothing, etc bc everything is shipped there.
“the median price for a single family home in Hawaii was $885K. Condos are selling at a median of $454K.”
“Average rent in Hawaii (Oahu) for a studio will vary based on location but expect to pay around $1,670 with Waikiki studios going from $1,400 to about $1,700. Average rent for one bedroom apartments in Hawaii (Honolulu, Oahu) is $1,743”
PLEASE stop vacationing in / moving to the occupied Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. You are actively participating in violent settler colonialism when you do, even if you aren’t white. Never in my whole life have I seen our airport THIS packed!!! Our islands cannot support this many people – especially during our dry season and in the middle of a PANDEMIC!
Tourism makes it impossible to keep up with the rising cost of living. It brings in revenue and with that, becomes the fake state’s priority. Tourism pushes native Hawaiians from their land and homes, puts locals at risk for covid19, directly harms the delicate environment and native species here, houseless folk (many whom are native Hawaiian) are being illegally swept to make room for tourists at beaches, and locals are being restricted and fined for using water on east Maui, all while hotels can use up all the resources no problem and our government approves a million dollar home construction for new part-time residents (when locals who have been here for generations are being thrown into poverty, barely staying afloat, losing businesses and even their homes). “Hawai’i has become the Blood Diamond of the Pacific. We are mined for our splendor, and our residents live the every day, complex consequences.”
It’s absolutely VILE what is happening here. I hope yall know that Hawaiʻi was overthrown and occupied by the US military, and isn’t even legally a state! Hawaiʻi is not your vacation spot, so you better tell your family and friends to stay at home.
Here is a linktree by my friend with petitions to protect sacred, native Hawaiian land on Kauaʻi and Molokaʻi. Sign them.
Here are a few Kānaka Maoli (native Hawaiian) folk in need you can donate to (if you know more please add to my thread!)
No matter how you feel about Scarlett Johansson as a person, the fact is that with this claim, you should be supporting her in this case against Disney. It doesn’t matter that “she’s rich and she doesn’t need more money”, or whatever you think about the casting controversies. This is a legal breach of contract, that apparently meant she lost out on 50 MILLION DOLLARS. She is completely justified. And if she lost that much, how much did Florence possibly lose out on? Rachel and David? Anyone who’s acted in a Disney+ release, how much did they lose out on because the Mouse House are greedy fuckers who want 100% of the profits?
At the end of the day, it’s about equal pay. It’s about Disney not thinking that because they’re a multi-billion dollar conglomerate they’re allowed to bully their actors into taking less than they were promised. It’s about protecting actors who are not white A-List Hollywood stars with the means to endlessly fund expensive lawyers from the same exploitation in the future.
Until more information is released, I’m standing with Scarlett. You can’t really claim that you support professional women to demand what they’re worth and promised and then be like, “except her, she’s doing fine as is”. Even if her motivations were entirely selfish, or she doesn’t win, it’s highly likely at this point that with her big name, a lot of other actors are going to come forward.
(maybe I’m mad that she’s destroying her own mcu legacy but I suppose this was a bigger worry. also i’m a little confused because she just signed on to produce that Tower of Terror movie for Disney so is that now off? idk I just want everyone to be friends this fandom is never peaceful)
Also bear in mind, she’s clearly been pissed with them for months now, but was still professional enough to do the PR tour for the movie.
I read her complaint. This is legit.
Disney is legally obligated to meet the letter and spirit of its contractual obligations. Scarlett is alleging that Disney has failed to do so, perhaps intentionally. This is a breach of contact and likely tortious. She has the right to sue for damages. People should get the benefit of what they bargained for in their contractual agreements. People should not cheat other people.
Scarlett held up her end of the contract and apparently made a great movie. She claims that the contract was for theatrical release only for the first 90-120 days, because she negotiated a percentage of box office receipts as part of her compensation. Her complaint alleges that *the bulk of her compensation* was this back end percentage of revenue.
Previous Marvel movies had exclusive windows of at least 82 days, and 117 days on average. And people would pay to see the Marvel movie multiple times, so that’s more ticket revenue.
By releasing simultaneously on Disney+, Disney lured many new subscribers, and got them to pay $30 more to watch black widow, and its stock price rose, which increased compensation for Disney executives. This also cannibalized theatre box office receipts, including no one going to the theater multiple times, reducing Scarlett’s compensation. So Disney both made more money for itself AND had to pay Scarlett less money.
Disney needs to pay her all of what she’s owed. She is suing for intentional interference with contractual relations and inducing breach of contract.
Only a person as wealthy as Scarlett can afford the astronomical legal fees that it will cost to sue Disney. Millions of dollars, easily. And she might lose the lawsuit because Disney has very tough lawyers and uses very aggressive legal tactics. Only a person as wealthy as Scarlett can afford to gamble on millions in legal fees and know she might lose.
Only a person as successful as Scarlett has potential monetary damages that make it worth spending all that money on legal fees, because she could recover way more money than it costs her to bring that lawsuit. One article said she’s potentially looking at $60m in damages.
Only a person as successful as Scarlett can afford to piss off Disney, which owns basically everything, and potentially get blacklisted by other major studios. Could a less prominent actor risk their career with this sort of lawsuit? No. Could anyone else in that movie? No.
Scarlett should be applauded for standing up for her rights. This is her money, she earned it over ten years of developing Black Widow, and Disney needs to not fucking cheat her.
Disney damn well knew it needed to amend her contract, because Warner Bros. spent a fortune doing so when it moved all its releases to HBO Max. Disney said, “nah.” What about all the other movies that moved to Disney+? Did the cast of Raya get compensated?
Disney has a habit of screwing over creators. Unlike most of the others, Johansson can afford to sue them for it. Good for her. I hope she takes them to the cleaners. Because then the others will have a legal precedent that will help them pursue their own complaints against the company.
Also, if this is screwing her, it’s also screwing EVERYONE else who gets payments based on box office and various types of residuals. And those people can’t necessarily afford to sue. (Yes, those people are real, I still get checks every quarter from a film I was in in 2006. At this point, that amounts to a few hundred bucks a year, but that’s groceries. And in the first couple of years, it was thousands and the only way I could pay my rent at that point. This matters.)
#DisneyMustPay #hey remember how we recently learned they were refusing to pay royalties to writers? #claiming the purchase of contracts from other companies entitled them to get money #from the IPs #but didn’t obligate them to pay the writers despite that being in the original contracts they bought? #and how when Alan Dean Foster came forward a whole bunch of other lesser known writers did too? #IF THEY’RE SCREWING OVER SCARJO THEY’RE SCREWING OVER ALL THE OTHER ACTORS TOO #AND LIKELY CREW ETC #class issues #capitalism #pay people for their work #PAY PEOPLE FOR THEIR FUCKING WORK
The Panthers used to ride around and follow the police.
So the cops would pull over some sorry black person, and get ready to rough him up, but then there were the Panthers right behind them. Watching, armed to the teeth, and citing legal statutes. It’s inspirational.
Bring it back.
Bring this back.
For real.
That’s why the FBI broke them up, isn’t it ?
That among other community initiatives. They had weapons training, self defense, their free breakfast program and ran a newspaper. They raised money to pay for bail and legal funding for people. And they used to notify the community of their rights and encourage people to know the laws and protest the one which were unjust. That type of shit irked the local police and damned sure struck a nerve with the FBI. They were taking back the streets and providing the protection the police were never interested in bringing to their neighborhoods from the very start. So it’s always fuck the FBI for me.

Watch: It’s your right to share your salary, not doing so could be holding you back.
At my last company, one day someone in accounting approached me at lunch and quietly told me I need to ask for a raise because I was way underpaid.
They gave me a number to shoot for. It was about twice than what I had been making at the time.
So I went online, did some research, found some figures backing up my claim, put it all together and went to my boss.
I got what I asked for.
If it hadn’t been for that person in accounting telling me I was way underpaid, I’d have never known. I went from barely scraping by to being able to have a savings account and getting all my debts paid thanks to them.
You should at least check sites like salary.com to start the process of seeing what you should be making.
Because this is crucially important
Except for the fact that 90% of the time you are under contract not to talk about your salary otherwise the company can sue you. Every job I’ve had I’ve had to sign that I won’t discuss my pay with other employees otherwise my employment is terminated and the company will take legal action.
It’s actually illegal for companies to forbid wage discussion, they’re just counting on you not knowing your rights.
Important
Fuck.
If you scrolled right past this - GO THE FUCK BACK UP - this is a huge PSA
