Can u do a tut for how u use your overlays (eg like “lighten” “overlay” “saturation” idk idk

im unsure on how to answer this question, but i will try to demonstrate it the best I can

i will use this picture as an example!

ok so first, basically all the overlays i use can be found here.

it usually contains just playing around with what one's work on the image, and the coloring you're trying to do. so i usually use an overlay of the color i want it to be, or add another coloring layer for that

i want this to be colorful/rainbow, so i add overlays like that. i also always use grain/textured overlays, usually on overlay blending, but like I said, always experiment.

i also use unsharp mask on the og image, always! it makes the image more defined behind overlays and u can see it.

Also speaking of editing og image, I usually use hue/saturation, brightness contrast, and unsharp mask on the original. It really is just playing with effects

so as we can see here, i made the og image grayscale and added a white overlay for more contrast, and also colorful overlays. this has the black and white rainbow coloring effect i wanted!

and so the finished product looks like this, this explanation like I said is very bare bones, but it really is just experimenting with what works best.

however, i find myself commonly using overlay, screen/lighten, and pin light/hard mix, the most.

i hope this can help you or anyone else with coloring :D

hello, I hope to answer all of these well since I do this style alot!

#1 using metadata background and then linking invisible spaces on top of the text

#2 for multiple colors, don't use "traditional coloring"? Slash gradient maps/(most Psds), that change the color alot. You need to do this type of coloring by hand with overlays, and messing with effects on the original image itself (brightness/contrast, hue shift, etc etc.). Aswell as using more texture/grainy focused overlays for texture on them. Unsharp Mask is extremely helpful for this also.
