going through archives and found this hiding. Berlin, 2015
was going through some old archives and forgot i shot a prom party for one of the kids’ parents. this is right before departing on the party bus.
a few images from a lab whose scientists are on a mission to extend life itself
I revisited photographs from a day last year when I tagged along with the dance crew INQ at a competition called Evolution down in San Mateo. Here’s what I found.
Teo & Arielle on their roof in Bedford during one of those quintessentially blissful new york summer nights; August 2016
the signage didn’t make the cut but it’s doing it’s own thing

‘The Mafia, like criminality, has fear of the transcendental, because they know it can cut their throats’ or ‘The Mafia, and criminality in general, hold great fear because they know as they cut down, so too can they be cut’
This was adhered to a statue in the port town of Catania. During my week photographing in Sicily last August I learned that not only is the mafia very much alive and well (I had actually thought it was more a thing of the past) but that their exploits extend to the current migration crisis unfolding there.
Funding coming directly from the E.U. towards helping house, feed and clothe those in migrant centers that dot the country is, in some cases, falling directly into mafia hands as a result of their implicit presence in government. Having domain over these migrant centers also puts them in a great position to operate another business under the same roof: smuggling. It was both extremely eye opening and disheartening to learn that the already complicated situation of migration in Sicily is being compounded by corruption and ill will. Yet I can’t say I was that surprised.
Speaking with locals about the mafia was like asking to hear about an age old story; I only caught a glimpse of its reach but it is a deeply rooted sadness and frustration for all those who oppose it. This sign was emblematic of that.
