Chapter 20

Ashely

I walked into the house, hanging on to Chris. Even after all these years, I am still scared of going into this house and most importantly, my mother. However, I can boldly state that the fear I have had for my mother has turned into hate.

‘‘You ok baby sis’‘ My bro said grabbing my hand as I let go of Chris. I just nodded and smiled at him.

‘‘ I am only doing this for y-’‘

‘‘Ashely darling’‘ My mom said walking up to me with a big smile. Without a second thought, I moved out of the way before she could hug me.

‘’This way Chris’’ I said grabbing hold of his hand and leading him to the lounge area.

I smiled and greeted my family members. I have kept in contact with my cousin’s aunties, uncles and basically everyone that is not my mother. Most of them have been there for me even though they had no clue what I gone through in this hunted house.

Chris pulled me aside after leaving me alone for a while to mingle.’’Hey, don’t forget about me now’’ He said pulling me closer and away from peering eyes.

I laughed, wrapping my arms around him and pulling him closer. ‘’ Your such a big baby’’. I said, kissing him hard.

‘‘ You guys can’t go two sec’‘ My brother said walking past us.

‘’You got your facts, the wrong bro, it has been precisely 10 mins and 50 sec since she left my side’’. Chris said, sticking his tongue out. I just chuckled and checked the time.

‘‘Babyyyy’‘ I moaned. Pouting my lips, this always does the trick.

‘‘Nope! Don’t give me that look’‘ He said reading my mind and pulling me back into him. ‘‘The kids are fine mom picked them up, and we will pick them up tomorrow’‘ He said. My phone started ringing, and Chris grabbed it off me before I could pick the call. ‘‘Nope!’‘ He yelled.

‘‘Chrisssss it might be important!!’‘ I whined trying to get my phone back.

‘’No phone, no distraction. Just you, me and your family members… ooo and bbq food’’ Chris said leaning in and kissing me.

His own phone started ringing, and I took him being distracted to get it before running inside. I shut the door and picked up the phone.

‘’What!!’’ I yelled.

“Ashley!!!” I yelled, chasing her. Only to get hit by a glass door. “Ow!!” I yelled, holding my nose. This girl is violent. I thought before turning back around.

She stuck her tongue out, smiling before picking the phone.

My facial expression changed instantly as hers did.

Something is wrong.

The phone dropped.

Her eyes darted to mine.

Then she collapsed.

‘‘Ashley!!’‘ I yelled, trying to open the door. She locked the door from the inside, and everyone is outside. I contemplated breaking the glass, but she would be hurt her in the process.

I pushed passed the useless crowd that has now formed. I stopped in my tracks in front of Ash’s mother. Her eyes were filled with nothing but panic and fear. “Don’t worry she will be fine” I said quickly before pushing past her.

I jumped over the neighbour’s fence and ran to the front of the house. I instantly smashed through the door with Derick by my side.

‘’Ashely’’ I yelled running to her. I picked her up and rushed to the car, instantly driving away.

…

I pace back and forth, waiting for someone anybody to tell me what is going on. I stopped in my tracks as all the Ash’s family from the BBQ rushed into my side. Asking a million questions.

So much was happening that my head started spinning. ‘’Mr-’’ I instantly rushed to the doctor’s side.

‘‘How is she?’‘ I asked. ‘‘She is fine, she just needs rest’‘ She said. She looked over my shoulders. ‘‘Only one of you can go in now.’‘

Without looking back, I ran into the room. ‘’Ashley??’’ I questioned looking at the scenery in front of me. She was removing everything attached to her. ‘’Baby what are you doing??’’ I said, rushing to her side and trying to stop her.

‘‘I’m fine’‘ She said pushing me away.

‘’Ashley what the fuck is going on?’’ I asked. Reaching out for her only to get pushed back. Getting frustrated, I grabbed on to her and pinned her to the wall.’’Talk to me! I yelled slightly aware of our location.

Pushing me away, Ashely started looking around frantically before darting out.

20 mins earlier.

I woke up not knowing where I was. My head was spinning. With a more precise vision, I realise I was in the hospital.

“Great, you are awake,” a woman in a white coat said, grabbing my attention.

My name is Doctor Coleman, and we got great news for you. Do you want me to call your husband in she asked?

“Husband?” I asked. Oooo Chris. Trying to be polite, I sat up. “Can you tell me this news first?” I asked.

“Sure, Ashely, you are pregnant.” Said, and with those words, everything can rushing back. “Omg Nola!”

“Mrs Coleman?” I asked, grabbing her attention away from my chart “Can I leave?” I added.

She looked worried. “You need rest” she responded.

“I feel perfectly fine” I responded smiling. “I can rest at home I promised” I added quickly getting of bed.

“Erm okay,” She responded, rushing to my aid trying to stop me. “I ’ll let someone in to see you, and you can discuss further. In the meantime just rest ok. It’s not just you anymore” she stated, looking at my belly.

“Thank you,” I said with a smile. As soon as she left, I started taking everything off me. “Don’t worry, baby mommy is coming” I kept repeating.

Flashback over

Ok, think Ash think I thought standing outside the hospital. Twisting and turning. “Phone,” I said out loud rushing back searching for Chris. Did not have to look far, he came out running.

“Can I -”

“What the fuck Ashley” He yelled. “ How are you going to drop that bomb and leave just like that and just leave.” He yelled.

“Chris, I need to find my daughter!” I yelled back.

“She is my daughter too!!” He responded with so much venom. He chuckled. “Ash,” he said, holding my hand. You are not the only one taking care of her anymore. I’m here.” He said, holding me close.“We will find her.” He whispered.
