AEW DYNAMITE • June 3, 2026
"It's all around, all encompassing emoji, that's why I like it."
"Did @ReneePaquette and @GarciaWrestling plan their outfits?"
@ReneePaquette: We did.
The happiness radiated from Daniel as he only continued to follow Hook completely. He, as ever, was oblivious of his own surroundings or Hook's inner turmoil. "Oh, no, we have this find your friends app. Couldn't believe Mox knew what an app was." Danny only babbled some more. The words tumbling from him without an ounce of pause or thought of how odd it may sound.
As the cold air greeted the both of them, Danny reached to zip the hoodie up. "Uber please." He answered almost instantly. "Too many people." The curiosity in Danny got the better of him as he peeked at Hook's phone. "You've changed your wallpaper." The statement left him as once upon a time it had been a selfie of the two of them. For the longest time.
Still, Danny had the uncanny ability of nothing fazing him for long. He bumped shoulders with Hook before stuffing his hands into his pocket.
"How is everything with the opps?" Danny could not handle silence for too long as he asked with sincere, pure curiosity. "Joe seems a bit...scary?" Those doe eyes of his made their appearance once more. His usual movements only continued as he subtly bounced on his heels.
His own phone vibrated and for the first time; he ignored it and thought nothing of it.
hook got suddenly quiet. he nodded, still, because he wanted danny to know he was listening, but he wasn't happy to know the riders were that controlling. it wasn't news. he should have expected it... and he had no right over danny to even be justified thinking that wasn't right. it was his life after all. and yet, concern still stung his chest. "wouldn't they be crossed at you spending time with me?" he wondered, slight innocence escaping his sarcasm while sending a little look to the other.
there was a reason why they became almost strangers, now. almost, because hook could never quite let him go. not in his mind. not in his heart. despite all of his efforts, this encounter was testimony enough: he was willing to get on the wrong side of the riders just to spend some time with danny. and, deep down, he knew he was selfish because he wasn't the only one who'd pay for it. danny, possibly, would pay a steeper price.
he did as asked and ordered an uber, not shying away from danny's curiosity, too acquainted with it by now to even notice. "I did," with a sad shrug he tried to distance himself from the melancholy of knowing what the alternative was, when he could have a picture of them together on his screen. felt much too changed now. and yet, not changed at all. not when danny stood that close and hook did nothing to find distance, not like he did with everyone else. "thought... It was needed if I wanted to move on."
he thought at danny's words, though a tiny smile appeared on his lips, eyes trailing off, thinking. he didn't see what danny saw; to him, joe was a mentor and a close to a father figure, really. "so does mox." he offered, though he was sympathetic, bumping against him with his shoulder. "the opps are good for me, and joe trusts me to take care of his business while he's gone, which I appreciate. It's an opportunity to show I can be someone other than my father's son, right?" no one ever heard him saying that out loud, but danny was different. danny saw him for who he truly was first - before he could even see himself at times. why was it any different now that they were on different paths? why did it feel like nothing changed at all? why, despite his best efforts, he felt the need to reach out and touch him? hook sank his hands deep into his joggers' pockets instead, looking away. "I miss you, you know?" it rolled out of him before he could even think about it. devastating truth spreading through his melancholy-ridden chest.
"Nah," and unfortunately for Danny, he believed his own words completely. The naivety and lack of awareness that was still untouched and not corrupted - yet, shining through with ease. Daniel only leaned closer; half reacting to the cold and his own desire to close the gap between them. He didn't even believe he had to ask hook the same question; the idea of hook worrying about being near him never entered his head. why would it?
He had now moved his arm to snake around the middle of hook; leaning closer carelessly in a way seemingly only danny really could. He fought off a yawn as the adrenaline fell away from him now after a hard fought match. Unfortunately for hook, danny only got more clingy with the sleepiness settling into his bones. It didn't help that he felt completely at ease with hook; it allowed him to relax even more, just like he used to. Danny only hummed, "Well, we can always do a new picture." That sweet, easy going smile returning to his face as he locked eyes with hook.
His smile only widened at hook's words; pride easily filling him. He'd always known hook was special and now everyone will see it. "You always were much more than that," to me, was left unsaid. "I couldn't imagine being a leader, i'm much more of a follower. You will be great." His words tumbling from his mouth now as he only stared at hook harder; those doe eyes blinking at him.
Danny bumped his shoulder as well; fighting the urge to rest his head on hook. An act he once upon a time would have done without hesitation. "How long will Joe be gone?" Maybe there was an opening for Danny to be around hook some more. His mind raced as his excitement only grew, especially with the distraction Will gave mox - it could all work out.
