Circle of Friends
A post by Humans of New York that I thought was really interesting:
"Back in Greece, your circle of friends grows larger and larger as you go through life. In America, the circle mostly shrinks or stays the same size." "Why do you think that is?" "Time. Nobody has time here. It seems that every time you make a new friend, another friend has grown too busy or moved away."
It's sad, but I feel like this is true?

Tech Convocation Speech!
So this has been blowing up on my newsfeed:

Passionate (and kinda hilarious) speech that probably left more than a few freshmen at Tech feeling a little inspired.
In life, you will meet two kinds of people: ones who build you up and ones who tear you down. In the end, you will thank them both.

8/21/13 - ???
These next few days will be pretty hectic with all of the commuting and stuff. I'm going to try to squeeze in some workouts, but most of my time will probably be with family. Dang, I can't believe the entire summer's gone by.
Preparing for sophomore year.
Unseen Influence
Talking to Philip and Mark today made me consider and reconsider a number of things. One of the biggest things is the fact that we have the power to change other people's lives. Not just some simple "Our actions affect those around us"--the things that we do can alter the entire course of another person's life. And we might not even know it. Isn't that crazy? This is a huge realization. I mean, most people think that changing the world is incredible ideal to strive for, but even when you're "changing the world" it isn't really you who is changing it, it's what you're creating, what you're conveying and commercializing. And that's what makes the simple fact that you can change someone's life so beautiful and amazing--your personal interactions with others can influence their entire futures. It's in a way empowering, but also humbling. It reminds me to act purposefully.
Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

For some reason could not post last night...yesterday was a pretty productive day. Went to the library to get work done. Felt good at the gym. Also, a lot of respect for the guys who are there every day--that level of dedication is tough.

Sorry for not posting again...my sleep schedule has been a little messed up (just woke up). Weekend mostly consisted of watching Angel and taking her places. Anyway, I'm a little nervous for school--I think more than last year. Why? It probably relates to goals and expectations. Realizations. Sophomore year's a big year. At the same time, remember that the world is a big place and what we're experiencing is some perfect isolated bubble. Can't believe there's only one more week. Excited. OK, back to sleep.
8/16/13
Spent a lot of time reading articles and watching videos. Did a bit of improv on piano--do some actual learning next week. Gym has been going better.

I've been bad with posting! Just woke up from a 5-hour nap (now 11 p.m.), so feeling a little disoriented. Basically what's happened today and yesterday:
Not very good with goals. Went to the gym yesterday and did a BOMB workout--best I've had in a long time. But it was too much at once...need to split up upper body into two days. Sore in a lot of places right now and it might be partially messing up my sleep schedule. My body wants me to wake up early, but I'm still going to sleep late. After yesterday's workout couldn't take it and just passed out. Need to figure this out when school starts!!
Other than that, piano, mall, etc. Spending quite a bit of time on YouTube. (Some is educational, though.) Listening to music.
Watched a great video on loneliness, connection, and conversation. It put into words what a lot of people experience due to the changing nature of today's world (social media!!).
Miss Princeton.
Being home alone has its good and bad. Everyone coming back for the weekend!
8/13/13
Spent time looking for background music for videos. Watched dance videos and practiced for a bit. Played some piano, then napped.
Topic of the Day: The Just-World Fallacy. (If everyone had a car...)
Push-Ups: Yes
Gym: Yes
Speaking Drills: No (Going to sleep now.)
Independent Projects: Yes
Time Wasted: 2.5 hours
Haven't been getting enough sleep lately. 3-5 hours during the night, then fall asleep around 4-5 p.m. It's because I'd rather be awake than sleeping, but I know that I should be getting more.
