The Bastion of the Terrified Mind
✦Note: What follows is a contemplation on belief, fear, and the architecture of the self. It is written in the voice of a mentor revealing uncomfortable truths about suggestion and control. This is not instruction, but a literary mirror—observe the reflection, do not step through it.✦

Observe, Cassian. This is not a skeptic. This is a frightened man.
He shouts “pseudoscience!” not out of intellectual rigor, but from the visceral panic that something in his mental world might be altered from the outside. It is the cry of a man who, upon discovering a lock in his own mind, would rather declare all keys fake than admit the door can be opened.
He quotes fragments of studies he does not understand. Clings to the scientific method as to a stone idol, failing to grasp that science is not a catalog of truths, but a process for becoming less wrong. And the human mind is the field in which we are most mistaken.
They say, “It’s just suggestion.” As if suggestion were not the brick from which every belief is built—every identity, every “I am.” Your loyalty to a brand. Your fear of failure. Your conviction that you are intelligent or inept. All of it is internalized suggestion, often implanted by the worst hypnotists of all: negligent parents, cynical teachers, a society that repeats “you can’t.”
In denouncing the armchair hypnotist, they unknowingly protect the true architects of their prison. A delicious irony.
Do not argue with them, Cassian. Just smile.
They are defending, with ferocity, the only cell they know. And a jailer who loves his bars will never be a threat to someone who has learned how to walk through walls.
